Sandbox ESO

I just had a thought and wanted to see what everyone else thought. After reading the developers road ahead again, is it me or does it seem like they are slowly trying to turn ESO into a sandbox type game allowing the players to control everything. Maybe I'm just reading into things, but with all the recent upcoming changes and the justice system it just seems like that's what they are aiming for.

They are definitely adding more player freedom, which is fantastic. If they are going for a full Sandbox style game, then I am afraid that in a few months, I might suddenly disappear from real life.

It's wishful thinking. It would be a welcomed change though.

I hope it ends up that way. Once you've been through the theme park on rails, it's really only sandbox elements that can keep you entertained long term.

The champion system switches back to experience gains rather than vet points. Which means you can gain pts and advance your character by doing almost anything.

Also, they intend for housing to be "non instanced" which would be very sandboxy. Although it's hard to imagine how they plan to do this with all the different phases.

Well they said that the mega server attempts to put people in the same guilds into the same phases so maybe thy could attach it to guilds somehow... Guild cities maybe??

It would have to be a large instance to work.
    A guild neighborhood would work.
Go to a gate somewhere, open it, boom your in a gated community made up of your guild members houses.

Personally, what I'd like to see, is the majority of Skyrim (and Elsweyr, I love my Khajiit, Khenarthi's Roost was a nice little taster but I want to see more, but I digress) available. I'd like to hop over to Whiterun and see what everything looked like 1000 years prior to our beloved Dovahkiin's claim to fame.

I could imagine heading up the 7,000 steps in ESO, encountering that troll we saw on our first time, but I'd like to see that as a world boss, and I'd also like to go to Solitude, Dawnstar, have a butcher's at the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, and all that.

But I don't want this in a watered down, unfamiliar version. Like Riften and Windhelm, I didn't recognise anything there. I found that Riften was just too big and too diverse from what we saw in Skyrim, and although this is understandable as 1000 years is a long time, I just felt disappointed that Riften just wasn't recognisable.

That would be the same as instanced housing though wouldn't it? I mean I think the idea they are shooting for is house placement in open zones like UO. But with the current phasing, there would be hundreds of houses all in the same location and which house you see would depend on which phase you are in.

So you would think that by default, every time you logged in, you would be in your "home phase" with your house. But what if you port to a friend that's in a different phase, run by where your house is, and see Joe bob the baker's house there instead of yours. I mean sandbox housing would be great, but it's hard to wrap your head around. I don't know what else they could mean by non instances housing though unless they mean appartments like EQ.

But then housing like what you have in lotro would also be instances housing wouldn't it? Since the same housing community had several different phases.

I dunno. When I hear non instances housing I picture UO.

Yeah, I couldn't Imagine any city looking even remotely the same after 1000 years. The outside of Windhelm kind of looks the way it does in Skyrim. The docks are in the same spot anyway lol. It is a huge difference inside though, I agree.

Please, dont mention dreams of sandbox play in ESO! Judging by how Z-max handles player wishes so far they would literally make a huge sandox with just sand, some buckets and a few shovels...

Wait I am confused. What are they doing that makes you think it has sandbox in its future? This game is the definition of theme-park, -a great theme-park (1-50) but a theme-park none-the-less. I would cut off my left arm for this to have/had sandbox elements like player housing, guild halls, player economy etc.

I thought I had read everything, what in the world are you referring to in your OP? Please tell me you are not talking about guild tabbards. While cool, they have nothing to do with sandbox features and you're only getting my hopes up for nothing.

I'd LOVE to see ESO turned into a sandbox type game, like Eve Online just without the space part. The issue is that it isn't all that easy to pull off. It's a very VERY long balancing act to get things just right, and you have the very real problem of RMT in those games.

History shows that if enuff people demand it, it will happen. Just look at the VR nerf. It took a lot people complaining on the forums but it happened. Not sayin' I'm for or against it, just sayin' that the voice was loud enuff for them to take action. I don't feel I've done enuff VR content to really have an opinion yet.

If their customers (collectively) demand it, it will happen.

Naw, I think they are just concentrating now on producing the least with the least possible staff and necessary funding.

It wasn't so much people complaining on the forums as people unsubbing once they hit VRs.

If 40% of the sub base cancelled their sub tomorrow, and wrote on the survey that they were leaving due to a lack of flying purple banana peels, Update 4 would heavily focus on flying purple banana peels. The same logic applies to, say, sandbox content.
