The lesson to be learned

I think the one lesson we should all learn today is to never again pre-order anything or buy it when it first comes out. Many of us got the Imperial edition early and if we had waited we would also get the new pet. Many of us bought the Heroes Guide and if we had waited we would have gotten free game time. We asked would the game be on Steam and they said there were no plans to use Steam. Three months later and it is on Steam. Lesson learned. My future ZOS purchases will now be on a three month delay.

Because in the history of games, they have never gone on sale or run exclusive bonuses for sales that weren't available prior. Right?

This is clearly a new practice and ZoS is clearly trying to anger as many people as they can... oh sorry, I can't even finish that statement without laughing at the lot of you foaming at the mouth over this.

However they did categorically state the game was not going to be on Steam, so this at least is a very sharp turn-around!!

I didn't say I was upset. I said I had learned to wait and not jump on things as soon as they are offered. You seem to be the one jumping to conclusions. If I was upset I would have said I was quitting and they would never get any more of my money. i just said that my next purchases would be on a 3 month delay.

Anything when it first comes out will be cheaper in a few months.
Buy a game on steam, the next day 90% off on sale.

I had fun with this game, there is a lot of love and a lot of hate about this game, but it entertained me. So I feel I got value for money as I would just waste the money on beer instead.

Ok Re-reading my post and it does sound kind of butt-hurt. I didn't really mean it that way. I tend to buy things on impulse and what I meant to say was that I and others like me who buy things right away should take this as a lesson to wait a while and not grab things as soon as they are available. Apologies.

It's all good. But tons of companies do this to sell more and it's not going away. I don't care because I refuse to buy extra crap when I pay the sub. Also the dog is fugly.

I pre-ordered JUST for the ability to make any race in any alliance. I'm not upset at all by this move.

Please provide link to this? I've been pretty closely following the development of this game from day one and I never read anything of the sort.

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

I don't remember them saying that either. Although beta was 4 months ago so it is possible they had no plans to release it on Steam at that point.

    Plans change.

They also don't "plan" on going F2P, but I'd be incredibly shocked if they really did just 'shut the doors' instead of trying to salvage some sort of money-making from the game when subs get low enough to warrant such a thing.

A business is not our 'friend'. Obviously Zeni sees this 'gimmick' as a way to win more subs, while not risking losing any over it. It's a pretty low-brow tactic, but shouldn't be surprising. Lots of companies in the industry do the same thing.

What I find surprising is that this is coming just a little more than three weeks after launch. To me it reeks of desperation.

Why are people trying to be so argumentative here? I am not complaining about the changes they make. Someone asked about the earlier statement concerning Steam and I said what it was. Yes they changed their minds. Stop trying to start a fight. And I am trying to find a link but since the old beta forums were wiped it is kind of difficult. I'm looking through other forums now.

Heroes Guide was fair imo, they were in limited amounts and I paid early to be certain I got one.

The dog is a little more iffy to me. It doesn't seem wise to lock your existing player base out from a cool new (practical) pet, but I'm still not gonna lose much sleep over it.

People said it was going to come out F2P, Then they said within a month it would be F2P, then they said within 3 months it will be F2P. And in a year you'll be saying the same thing. It's not going F2P any time soon if ever. beat-a-dead-horse.jpg

People might have said, I never did. From beta I figured it would be a year to 18 months and it would go F2P/Sub. The early purchases/subscribers are there to cover the original investment in the game. As they get that back it starts going on sale, at first limited time sales and then eventually a full discounted price. Then it's FTP with purchasable content packs/monthly sub with all content, which covers the costs of new content development along with bug fixes, etc.

But hey at least there's totally no recent historical evidence of an MMO starting as purchase and sub, and migrating to f2p/sub, am I right?
  • SweetRollBandit
Yup gotta play it by Skyrim rules, wait years until customers have mod fixed much of the game for everyone else lol.

When I pre-order game, I suprisingly want a game. Which I got, along with some CE stuff and pre-order pet and another monkey, for being such a good monkey.

If you pre-order games to get something else than games, dunno I think you might be doing something wrong.

Since human kind can think, promotional awards were rewarded.

You can buy a kitchen and get free Mickey Mouse plates and a month later its Garfield and one year after that its Britney Spears and you have a 500 bucks discount. That's how it is dude, you cant stop time - if you wait you will wait but never ever be able to buy anything as prices change, so do the promos with it.

All that crying and whining shows just one thing, people are very inexperienced in life and need to learn a lot still.

What are you going to complain next? That someone bought the Bikini top from a second hand store, while you paid 1k for it?

Oh man, life isn't Lala land and you are not the center of the world either. Guess what, your PC is already old at the next day. Do you bring it back then to the store demanding a refund because the price changed by 50 cents?...

Good points. But we are talking DOGS here, man.

Whoever made this decision at zenimax should be suspect from ever making another.

Dogs rule. Most people LOVE dogs.

They deserve the revolt they are getting. If they didn't expect it with this then it's just example #875643 that these people are amatures who have no clue what they are doing, frankly.

Do you ever get the idea that these guys are completely out of touch with their customers. "Werewolves have been broken since launch but no one cares about that. Let's make the lights prettier. Classes have broken skills. Irrelevant. Let's fill the containers with crap that can't be deconstructed or sold. We just made the coolest pet. Let's give it away to new customers. What about the old customers? Who cares. We have their money already."

We would like to annouce console versions of TESO 1 month after the PC launch. WE also have no plans for STEAM has of now, Those of you that purchase the imperial addition will have access to limited edition material...Like playing any class any alliance.....

    WAIT
    WHAT WERE WE THINKING???

Consoles probably will not make release until 2015,(thanks for the preorders) we ARE releasing STEAM (lets make it 1/2 for all the new people and give them a pet that everyone would want)(thanks for more money)...everyone will have access to most of the perks that the imperial addition provides....(plus you have to play every alliance stories anyway) (lets throw in imperial motifs so everyone can make the armor)
