Respec Woes

So, my Clothing/Woodworking Alt who happens to be a Sorcerer was wearing Medium Armor and I wanted her to go LA for the Mana Benifits. She was Level 30 at the respec, and had 66 Skill Points, so 6600 Gold to switch to Light Armor. No big deal that. And I wanted to test the viability for my actual Sorcerer character.

Well, I respec and start distributing the points. Put what I needed back into the two Crafting lines and then the other skill points. Only, I use up all my points in the class and weapon lines and then realize that I have put nothing into Light Armor, or Medium for that matter. Or the Breton Racials. Arrgh!!!

So, I am farming a public dungeon near Velyn Harbor for the coin to respec again tonight. I wish there was an "Are You Sure" Message or at least a button to Confirm the points like there is for Attributes.

I have to ask, has anyone else respec'd their character only to have a Doh! moment after distributing the points? Or, am I the only one?

Just out of curiosity how would that have helped you? Are you imagining something like a "Are you sure you don't want to put points into light armor since the entire point of your respec was to PUT POINTS INTO LIGHT ARMOR" confirmation prompt?

Software development has come a LONG way in the last couple of decades however it hasn't reached the point of being able to read the users mind yet.

Every other game I play from Bethesda has the Are You Sure? before loading a save, saving a save, quitting, traveling to a cell, just about anything. No I am not asking the game to help my strategize my character, that would be just silly.

What I meant is, when people resec, I would imagine they assign most if not all of their points in one shot. The way it works now, is if a Skill Point is assigned, it is assigned and no going back. So, a sneeze could cause a point to be miss assigned. Attributes have a commit button and that has a much lower chance of throwing away a ton of gold even on a respec. Plus in my case, in the middle of the respec, my phone rang so I was distracted and forgot where I was in the process. This could have given me a reality check.

However, the wishful thinking is mostly because of what I did, not because I did it and want a nanny to watch over me. As I said, I will farm that Public Dungeon a couple of times and do the respec again. And, ignore my phone this time. I am also punishing myself by not taking one of my more powerful alts and farming that dungeon, I am taking my sorc with no armor skills and staying mobile. So, I should not make this mistake again.

I'd rather have a respec room or something, where you can try out various allocations and fight target dummies and mobs and stuff while inside that room. Your spec is saved upon leaving.

I know what you meant, however given the drollery of your story, I just couldn't resist poking a little fun at you.

Yes it's true, I have zero willpower today.

Your post did make me think about this more. Skill Respec is about the only dangerous thing you can do in the game to your character that does not have an Are You Sure with it. I mean improving an item, which is just about guaranteed to fail if you have an attribute on it and you have less than 100% on the Temper gives a AYS message. It would be annoying as individual skill points are assigned through the game, but the time immediately after making the donation would be a good time to be able to shuffle things around before committing what points you want.

I respeced once and I regret it. I was only level 19 or 20 at the time. Unimportant. The point is, I carried on with the game, earning my skill points, using the swap-out leveling trick. Changing focus from one group of gear to another late game is perfectly doable.

Respecing is a knee-jerk reaction. Be patient, persevere and you'll be able to level new gear quicker than you think. There are a tonne of skill points to earn.
