Weapon swap should cancel current pending AoE cast. (Mildly embarrassing)

I was leveling some different skills the other day, and as such, had (temporarily) removed some of the healing spells from by primary skillbar.

As I'm getting thumped on by multiple assailants and my health is diminishing, I went to do a Weapon Swap, thus accessing my second skillset to perform a self heal and got no response.

In the moments near death, where things are said to become most clear, I notice the yellow AoE circle moving about on the ground in front of me, still patiently waiting for me to place it as I meet my demise...

(I and my counterpart also have a new and greater appreciation for the healing that almost automatically takes place during our normal skillbar setup! Give your healer a high five, some gold, or...as an NPC Kajhiit said it, "something more personal.")

Granted, it was technically a fumble on my own part. However, I feel that a Weapon Swap should cancel any pending casts. (Roll dodge and block should do the same, as I believe they already do.)

To be clear, I am not talking about a spell already in process. You cast a 10 second (casting time) spell, you expect to be a feather pillow at a slumber party for the next 10 seconds, but when the spell/skill has not yet been cast, and you activate any of the three aforementioned actions, it should cancel out the queue...

Thoughts?

(Equally stupid and amusing, and placed here in perfect honesty for the entertainment of all, I completely blanked on the fact that I could use a quickslotted potion during the assumed non-responsiveness.) We quickly reviewed New-guy 101 shortly thereafter.

Makes a lot of sense--you have slotted the skills/weapons--the previous ones should not be able to do anything at that point.

That said--maybe--if the skill in question is one you have in BOTH sets, it should still fire?

There are add-on with allows a single key to bind and do two commands.
The one default macro that comes with it changes the weapon swap key to be two command "esc" then weapon swap.

This 'cancels' any skill that you have triggered and waiting for you to place, which is exactly what your after.

Absolutely agree. Currently firing another hot bar skill also supersedes an AOE circle, in addition to the dodge roll and block cancellations - for instance, if fire rune is hotkey 2, and while the circle pops up and the enemy has already closed the gap between us sooner than I anticipated, hitting 5 to fire a weapon ability cancels the AOE circle in favor of the new command. So it shouldn't be too difficult to make it so that the weapon swap key does the same thing.

While I'm here, "YOU CANNOT SWAP WEAPONS NOW"? I get it, I'm in the middle of firing off an ability, but instead of just sending up that helpful message in the UI, how about instantly queueing a weapon swap for the next available opportunity please? I promise I haven't changed my mind about swapping just because I'm in mid-attack/cast.

And lastly, why aren't currently equipped weapons graphically cached or something? Why should, when graphical loading is being sluggish (as it still tends to be, even if the powers-that-be have declared Mission Accomplished on all things FPS and graphics related after 1.2.5), our weapon sets take so long to load instead of the same images simply being stored and pulled up again? Sometimes I get fooled because I still have that shield up, which is a lot easier to spot in the middle of heated combat rather than squinting to see if there's a little 1 or 2 by my current bar set-up, and it turns out that the staff or whatnot just isn't displaying.

@SeltzerDuke‌, right...about as useful as the "You're busy" message.

I could see it being beneficial to visually show the queue at the side of the screen, via small icons or something. At least you'd have some method of knowing that what you're trying to do made it to the server and didn't get lost in translation.

Then again, I've had circumstance recently where the command server just kind of loses its mind and keeps doing the last thing - walking (usually towards a cliff edge) or strafing like an idiot with a cane and a straw hat while my fellow group member gets the crap kicked out of him...or something equal unhelpful.

Agree also...it's obviously something that is going to be frequently used or it wouldn't be in your skill bar(s). I hate that you have to visually determine which set you're on at all, especially if you use a similar weapon for both. Again, a visual option of an icon (in a more visible place than the bottom of the screen) would be helpful. In these circumstances, you're usually focused on not dying, and I can safely say that my character would have enough intuition to know which weapon set he currently has in his hands.

These things (relatively easy fixes/additions) would help greatly.

Along this same thread, I equally enjoy when I'm fighting a dozen daedra and my (C)haracter screen or (G)uild screen comes up...because that's what my character would certainly be doing in a fight...

(Before it's recommended, you shouldn't have to change keybindings for this - it's combat, and certain things should supersede passive bindings during full on battle.)

I think(pretty sure) this is happening in 1.3
