Keeping books to read at high level?

As you know, leveling the skill lines is very easy at beginnig of the game, and it's harder at higher levels. So I thought that if i read books that grants me experience of a skill lane, i should keep it for later! For example: you read a book when you have Enchanting: 5 and you read the book so it becomes "6". But if you read the book at 25(which is i'm stuck at this level for a long time) it will become "26" immediately. If there are 5 books about each skill line, then i shoould start reading them at 45 level. In theory this makes sense. Does it work in pratic? (I count as each book grants 1 level of that skill line all the time, not a certain numbered experience)

I think the chance of a book giving a skill point are based on the level of that skill. When its low you have a very good chance of getting a skill book every time you check a book case but the higher you get in a skill line the less and less the chance becomes until it eventually stops all together. When your character reaches V1 you stop getting any skill books regardless of what level your skills are. So checking out every book case all the time is the best way to level. Then you get lots of skill books across lots off skills before hitting V1

I doubt you can "save" books for those skills. Simply because they are random finds and also they tend to reset when you visit again the places you found them (maybe not all the time, but eventually they certainly reset).

I do have to say one thing, I have gotten exactly "1" skill-up 'Post VR1'. So it is possible to skill up after you hit Vet Rank, BUT it is very unlikely.

I've never seen books that give points on VR (allthought i have some skilllines at 0 level)

I do that with my last character, a templar. I don't read any books but I don't plan to have 45 in all skills :). Since it's random you don't know what skill it will level. But once I have a fairly well developped main skill lines I plan to begin to read them even if I find a book that levels a lower skill then. It's the risk. It's not a problem that you miss so many books because later you can revisit same locations and have different skill books. It's just a matter of probabilities and the reason VR players don't receive more skill books is because they have already read most of them thus the probability of finding a new one becomes very low.

This is a bad plan. The chance to get skill books is related to how low your skill levels are. You are missing out on getting skill books while they are low because the chance drops as you get them higher.

It is rare becasue you already read most of the books.

If I have 0 in skill line it means that I've not read any book of this type.

I grabbed every book I could until VR.
    Nothing to be found now.
My skill line books may be exhausted.

Not true. The books respawn every 24 hrs. You can read a bookshelf one day and get a skill then read the same bookshelf the next day and get a different skill. They never run out you just eventually get to a point where they are very rare, either because you have maxed the skill or you are in vet

You get one level to your skill when you read the skill associated book for first time. It doesn't matter what level your skill is at the time of reading.

So to get most out of books you need to wait until you have your skills around 30 or something.

It might be that skill granting books don't show up that much in VR levels, but I have got one skill level at VR4 from a book. I do recall seen a lot of those same books that I have read for first time earlier in game though in VR content.

If Eidetic Memory would actually work, I could easily see how many skill books I have actually read. But as it's bugged it only tells me that there are 84 different skill books available.

Actually, all you have to do is relog. The content of book shelves is generated just like the content of containers.

You stand more chance of getting a skill point the lower you are in that skill and you can NEVER run out of skill books.

Actually he's right. There are only 84 books to find and, speaking from experience, the last one I found took my light armour from 48 to 49 at around VR6 or 7.

Incorrect. There are a specific number of books that provide skill ups (you can see them when you get the Eidetic Memory achievement). They just become more rare when you get to higher levels because the more skill books you've read, the chances of randomly finding one in a bookshelf drops until eventually you've read them all and will never see another one. Add to the numerous books that don't provide skill ups at all, and the chances lower even more.

I see the Skill Books all the time again and again, but you only get one point for the first time you read a title. The titles are the same as the skill books in the earlier TES games so I recognize them. So, it seems that there are a certain number of skill books per zone, and once you have read them, that is it. I have also noticed that when I go to a new zone I get more skill book points right at first so that seems to support this group of books theory I have.

One thing you could do is avoid activating any bookshelves until you are finished with a zone, then go and read them all in one of the towns. You will probably get 80 to 90% of the skill books for that one zone that way. Then log out and log in again to reset the bookshelves. I have also had little luck finding skill books in the Ayelid Dungeons, so I don't even bother there anymore. I just hit the furniture type bookshelves.

I do remember going to the bank one time and there were 5 bookshelves behind the banker. I hit each one and got a skill point for each of the skills I was using on my hotbar. That was so nice.

There are a set number of named skillbooks in the game. Every time you read a bookcase you have a random chance of one coming up. As you get to higher levels you might very well have found all but a few of the books so now the chances of finding the exact book you need are low.

It's not just every time you find a Destruction skill book your Destruction Skill goes up by one. It's every time you find a Destruction skill book that you have not already read your Destruction skill goes up by one.

Additionally, its possible (I really don't know) that certain named books only appear in certain zones, so you have to run around randomly checking bookcases in that zone until you find the one you need.

I don't understand the strategy of waiting until you're a higher level to find the books but maybe I'm missing something.

Imagine your character had a book that you could read to instantly gain a level.

When would you like to read it: when you are level 4, or when you are VR11?

The counter to that is, at lower levels, that skill increase may just what I need to get past that boss that has been kicking my butt. I have encountered this with one boss that I just could not beat. I was at level 6 and I went into the bank and hit 5 skill points (I alluded to this above), all on my hot bar or primary weapon. Since the skill books do not reset accumulated exp for that skill (yay!) I also leveled 4 of those skills going back to the boss again since they were close anyway. And, I prevailed after those skill levels.

Sure, I could run into the situation at higher levels, but I also have more avenues available to me such as improving my gear or adding a more powerful enchant, things not readily available to a sub level 10 character.

So, the right time to read a skill book is when you need to level that skill. The trick is, and always has been in TES, to find the book you need when you need it.

I don't see why it matters at the end of the day. If you wait until some future point, lets say VR11 to use the skill books then you're leveling your skills at earlier levels slower than you could be and end up grinding more. If you use the skill books up front you level your skills up faster earlier and then grind more later in VR. Either way you've got to grind somewhere.

I have a ton of low level skills that I have yet to get leveled up as a VR1 by checking book shelves, I just assumed, once you hit VR, you can no longer gain skill levels that way. If you can, it might be bugged.

Each 'type' of book can only be triggered once, there are 5 books per skill tree. So the max 'free' skill ups you can get for a skill line is 5.

The only one worth worrying about tho is the enchanting one, as that is the only skill which is costly to level. But since you can't tell before click on a bookshelf, its not really worth worrying about.

So you can either not click on any book until you get enchanting up to a good level or just not worry about that and click all book shelf like everyone else.
