Magical Trolls? Attacks ignore Heated Blades (Sparks morph)

I would like to know if Trolls attack with magic or melee.

I can use DW skill Heated Blades (morphed from Sparks) which basically nullifies melee attacks against me. Gargoyles and Werewolves can't hit me. But Trolls do?

The attack where they pound the ground repeatedly, called Tremor in Death Recap, is that a magical attack? It must be cause it hits me even if Heated Blades is still active. In fact most of a Trolls attacks seem to be magical. Is that right?

Do you get the "target is too powerful for that" error?

I know that heated blades/sparks does not work on most bosses in the game, and even a lot of champion enemies. I know it -did- used to work on trolls (I used it at level 30 something on my nightblade to solo the vet 5 trolls in cyrodiil), but that may have been changed.

Perhaps trolls having 3 eyes lets them see through the sparks =P

    lol! Indeed.

I did not get that message that it was too powerful though. But thanks for the response.

Tremor is a ground target AOE. It's the only troll attack that sparks cannot make to miss. But it is still easy to handle - the radius is shorter than your melee range, so you can stand just outside of it and continue to melee the troll who basically stunned himself for several seconds.

Hmm. I find it endlessly frustrating that there are all these exceptions to the rules that the player is never made aware of. Thanks for solving that mystery though.

That's a fairly intuitive exception. A ground-target AoE is an ability that hits everything in an area. It doesn't need to be aimed, so it shouldn't be possible for it to miss anything.

Yeah, just roll out of the area and avoid the damage.
