Superior Armor Still Looks Superior to Epic Armor / Dye Concerns

If armor dyes are coming within the next few weeks, I withdraw my complaint, as the issue will resolve itself. It will however create new ones, as described at the end

I will not go into the general dissatisfying "Everything's blue" look of veteran armor.

My main issue is that across the board of armor levels and racial styles, superior quality armor always seems to look best.

E.g. lvl 50 Altmer Ebony Armor: In the superior version, the armor is mostly ebony-appropriately dark, while details like borders and the eagle(?) shine in a nice gold finish. Have you seen it? It looks awesome!

Upgrade it to epic quality and what do you get? Everything becomes a mix of grey and dark grey with green (urgh!) chainmail sections. I haven't seen the legendary version, but based on other exhibits, I'd conclude it looks even blander.

With armor dyes, we could of course change this to our liking. I still think there should be a visible difference between the quality levels, as right now it seems to only be the coloring that sets them apart.

Two possible solutions:

- Increase the amount of details that can be recolored with dyes as the quality increases. With normal armor only the base color should be changeable, while a legendary cuirass' eagle can be a different color than the rims.

- Set the qualities apart by reducing scratches and dents as the quality goes up.

I know there are more important issues right now, but the way my character looks very much influences my enjoyment of the game.

Thanks for reading.

Don't expect dyes until July 20ish, the second update is monday, dyes is the third update. But yes the armor needs a lot of work. I like the idea of each rarity upgrading adding another dye slot to the armor.
Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

After the patch that changed armours a few weeks ago, I actually thought they had reversed the designs in error. Still do. I haven't found a Vet robe yet that looks better after it has been improved, white/normal still seems to have the best look of the ones I have crafted.

The armor does seem to have taken a step back, it was never that petty to begin with!

I feel once the dye system has been introduced, I will prepare to join my other Nightblade brethren in embracing the shadowy tones of blood red and void black, the markings of what should be, our preferred order!

Until then I have to prance around in blues and greens, darkness is my ally!

One of there selling points was that upgrading the armor would chance its asthetics to become more 'epic', only thing it does is change the bloody colors of it ><
    Why do people complain?

I'm for this as well. Better, higher level gear should just give you more options than lower quality. Many times in the game so far I have not wanted to improve armor simply because it looked worse (to me anyways).

I'd hate for this to go through. Legendary armor is ridiculously expensive. Talk about 24k a piece just for the rim of the armor..

I expect that Dyes will be locked according to the teir of the armor, with Legendary having all possible dyes the player has unlocked useable and basic only having a few.
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

I posted on this a while back:
    forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/108866/almost-no-visual-difference-vr6-epic-vs-vr6-normal-light-armor-barbaric-style-gear

The big concern here is that since coloring is the only difference, with the new dyes you'll have people in normal plain-Jane gear looking epic or legendary. Legendary and epic gear should be unique in design. Right now for me, I'm starting to lose steam at V7 due to a lack of incentive (cool looking gear) to continue on. I'm not unsubbing, just taking a break for now. Something needs to be done here. I understand there are styles, and that's great. But those styles should be separate or changed up a bit for epic and legendary gear. As it stands, I have no desire to use my mats for legendary or epic when it looks almost identical to superior. I understand there's a stat difference, but even that isn't very unique.

Well, I guess we'll soon know how exactly the dye system will work. I don't expect armor quality will make a difference though...

We already know how it works. Dyes are unlocked via achievements and are account wide. Some are harder than others to get.

Each item has 3 dye channels. Armor quality will still alter the base colours but you'll be able to alter them further. Higher quality dye colours are tied to harder achievements. Vampirism gets a black dye for being a vampire and a white dye for hitting max skill level.

They said there will be new set items with dye combinations that you cannot obtain elsewhere as well as unique styles.
