The flag button can be used for a problem post like someone trolling. Can be used to report a i quit topic.

Sadly the flag button is broken since two days or so :(

    Update:

You are right! It works still, guess my browser is the problem. Thanks for the reply :)

It does vary, but right now I was online with the IE on my PC. By switching to Firefox it works again ;)

Since the tags have no real effect, I don't see the point. I'd rather see a reddit-like voting system so we can float more interesting/worthy threads to the top.

For now the pejorative button is "LOL" which to me means "Laughing Out Loud"
And to many others as laughing WITH not AT, so receiving a LOL is entirely ambiguous and so it's pointless using it: and in any case if you're laughing AT someone they get the last laugh because you just gave them a few more forum points.

You can use it how you like but the forum badge system thinks an LOL is a good thing, awarding badges and congratulatory emails.

100 badges and $5 will get you a cup of coffee of course.

    No.

That's just like and dislike, so it's the same problem, with a bit of popularity confusing the issue a bit.

The buttons at the bottom are fine as they are, if we agree, then we press agree, same for finding it awesome or insightful.

LoL has a bit of misuse, I personally use it to indicate that they've said something funny. If I think they are wrong, I tell them so, and say why I think it's wrong. I would describe what I think of people who use it as a disagree button, but the forum rules disallow profanity.

Well it is the internet. Just assume that everyone dislikes and for the occasional reasonable person you will get an "awesome", or "agree" etc. I would be curious to see what would happen if a "dislike" button was added. My guess is it would quickly become the most used button on the forums LOL

I dont know how they do it, but some kind of system controls that users dont get "stalked" or downvoted for no reasons.....works fantastic....I dont know how but you can really look at a user and see their REAL "stats"

    This again huh?

Is used as a blatant troll tool. As I understand it, this was removed.

How was it a troll tool? We're peoples posts getting deleted if they go too many dislikes or something? It just doesn't make sense to me how that would cause issues.

As was explained, folks used the dislike button to pile dislike votes on posters with whom they disagreed, without ever bothering to detail why.

It's a lazy person's way out, and frankly just makes no sense:

If you made a point to someone in-person, and then that person responded, "I disagree," without saying anything else, you would rightly perceive him or her to be an idiot.

I am all for it btw :-p

Unless you noticed, I stand for what I say, and have you ever seen me complain that someone is replying whatever to me?

If I stick my head out and make any sort of statement, I have to accept the reactions, whatever they are.

Not counting rude and outright flaming/personal attacks, of course.

You have to give me that though? I say my view, and take the heat for it?

Reddit automatically moves things down as time goes on (otherwise the best submissions would just stay on top forever) but fake downvotes usually refers to the fact that the number of upvotes/downvotes shown isn't the real number for high-vote posts. The total points shown is accurate but the up and down numbers are fake. That's to stop vote spammers getting instant feedback on whether or not their votes are actually going through. If you don't know the real number of votes you can't measure your effect on a thread.

If a bot/person is shadowbanned, both the upvote and downvote counts go up, so the bot/person cannot tell if the post was downvoted at the same time or they are shadowbanned.

That is what the flag button is for.

The flag is to report posts that violate the TOS.

@Alex: it's not any different than the other buttons we have. Do people need to reply and explain why they think a post is LOL, insightful, or they agree? I never do... It's just an easy way to let the poster know without filling the thread with superfluous posts.

No the flag button is to report people who are outspoken about this game so that they can be moderated and eventually banned. ;)

Mind explaining why? I can't understand why it would cause problems for people to tag a post they don't agree with or think it's dumb.
