Character Appearance/Name Changes - Suggestions for 1.3

So with the recent reveal of 1.3 it appears we'll get alot of character customization (hooray!) but one thing missing, is the option to change your character's name or appearance!
So I have an idea on how to implement it, without paying a hefty real-money fee like a microtransaction, but is paid with in-game gold. It works pretty much like Skyrim's mid-game appearance change option, except now there's name changes too.
So, in every major city, put in a face sculptor who, for a sum of gold, will give you the option to change every aspect of your character's appearance.
And for name changes, same thing. There'll be a deed poll guy if you want to change your character's name, again you'll need gold.
Races too could be included in appearance changing, maybe with some Wabbajack master. :stuck_out_tongue:

You don't want to play because of your characters appearance?

If I were to guess, the appearance change will be Update 5 at earliest. Name change who knows, but probably even further out.

I honestly thought this would have been implemented by now.

Getting a characters appearance "right" is a big part of games like this for me, and I am very careful and picky about it. I save screenshots of sliders before I hit "create", and I often restart a character a few times once I see them walking around in-game. But even then, sometimes a flaw in a character's appearance isn't obvious until later in the game, like if they wear certain armor (eg my bosmers little horns stick through her light hood slightly and look wrong - and I do want to show the hood) or even until after they turn into a vampire (my dunmers skin going white made her white eyebrows completely disappear, and it looks weird. And her whole face shape looks different now that her skin shading has changed).

I noticed my first main was too skinny at about level 15-20, and completely restarted her for that reason, but now there are other things I'd like to change about her and other characters that I wouldn't restart for... and I know that if I did I'd probably see something else I wanted to change by the time they got to level 20 or so. And who wants to restart a character who you've spent hours doing the vampire quest with? But, deciding not to restart doesn't mean that I can completely ignore those appearance things either; they will always affect my enjoyment of the characters.

If there was an appearance editor in the game (maybe next to the skill and stat shrines) I would be able to enjoy the game a lot more, and would feel I could invest more in the character knowing I could change things later if I realised I'd made a mistake. To me, it is just as important as being able to reset stats/skills. I don't think it would be too difficult to implement, because it would just be allowing repeat access to a an appearance editor that already exists. I wonder if they're holding off while deciding whether to make it a cash-shop thing. Since there is a sub-fee already, I would rather it was for in-game gold, or even a free option from the menu-screen (now there's a good idea ;) ), but I'd take what I could get, and I know I'd use it however it was made it available.

At the very least I'd love to be able to pop into a Barber's and get my hair trimmed and re-styled. After months on the road it's gotten long & unruly, not too mention full of split ends!

They'll probably add in a name change as a cash grab.

I would think it should at least come out with the Thieves Guild content, if nothing is added in before that.

Ok, other MMORPGs offers the Option to reset a complete Look/Name for real Money and thats ok for me. It should cost a lot, so People think about a change and don`t change their whole Chars every Day. But don`t forget, this is an extra Service and not a normal one.

Why some People think all Ideas they have, should be implemented for free or a little Gold because they pay a monthly Fee?

This is an extra Service and you don`t need this to play the Game, if Zenimax implement a Cosmetic-Shop in the Future it is ok but to say: *Hey i have an Idea and now Zenimax should do this but hey it should cost nothing because i pay a monthly Fee*, isn`t ok.

But in the last Time i read more and more often, the Games should be free to play because this is the right Way or it isn`t good enough to play and pay a monthly Fee.

If you mean so, then don`t play this Games but don`t try to get all this additional Stuff for nothing. This Games cost a lot of Money to support them and the Devs try to earn some Money at the End of the Day.

The most People who goes to work want to earn some Money at the End of the Day, or are you working for nothing?

I miss the Times where you can buy an Addon (Box+CD) with new Classes and new Zones, it was fun to buy them and it is a good Way to Support the Game, you want to play for Years.

Now we get the most of the Staff for free, only for the monthly Fee, every Month or two. In the old Times we payed a monthly Fee for a MMORPG and payed the Addon extra. But the People demand more and more for free because they mean it is ok so. No it isn`t, the Games dies if you doesn`t support them and Extras cost more Money, easy Math.

This egoistic and greedy Tactics works very well for People who jump from one Game to the next, if they doesn`t get all the Stuff as easy they can get. They only care for theirselfs.

So cosmetic Options like Hair/Earrings/Tattoos for Ingame Gold are ok but the Option to reset a Name or the whole Charactermodel, should be only offered for real Money.

I'd love to be able to tweak my character's appearance after the fact. My main character is actually perfect, and ironically he was the one I couldn't zoom in on. I spent a very long time on my character because of that, but I got it just right. Meanwhile another character that I liked the way he looked, I messed up his height. Its a minor thing, but I'm not going back to fix it. It would be nice if we could adjust these things. I suppose one could call it abuse, but its really harmless so who cares.

I wanted to change my character's look, and thought there might be a barbershop or something before I didnt know there wasnt, so I googled it to see where it was. The results had a couple zenimax interviews with them alluding to it being in the works.
I think they're aware of how important the fine details of character appearance are to players. The character creation is like a mini game in itself, ive probly spent like at least an hour just screwing around with it.
So I was kinda suprised this option wasn't available. The only reason I could think they didn't include it at or soon after launch is that they want to include it with the thieves guild in the form of the plastic surgeon npc.
Ill be very baffled if that's not what happens. I can't remember what interviews it was in, but the way they responded by saying "we can't divulge any information about that right now" made it seem like they had a clever idea they wanted to reveal later. Or they're being elusive because they aren't working on it, which is hopefully unlikely.
But yeah I got two characters to almost level 20, then decided I didnt want to see their stupid face that I didnt see was stupid in the creation screen angle, and started over, ha.
It kinda sucks, but they've gotta pace the content...

Is this ever going to go live? I want to make some tweaks... My character has been in game for a long time now.

For role playing purposes, I'd like to show him age, have some battle scars, and carry a little more weight than when he first started his journey.
