The Elder Scrolls Online is by far the best MMO to be released in the past 5 years? Seriously, despite the few issues at launch and the recent issues with patching, this game is phenomenal!
When ZOS eliminates the grinders in Craglorn and gives everyone a reason to group up and quest so I can actually PvE at VR12, then yes, I will agree with you.
ESO is the right MMO for me at this time, will it be in 6 months I have no idea but right now it fits. Is it the BEST in the past any number of years, I can't say because I haven't played every single MMO that has come out in the same amount of years, neither has anybody else here I'd wager. I really enjoy it even with the issues, and once they get the bulk of problems sorted out I can see it being a really great game.
Well right now Iam enjoying ESO heaps more than I ever enjoyed GW2. I played GW2 for 6 months before quitting for good. I've only just reached the vet lvls though and have been playing since early access, once I reach v12 I may get bored as I know others that quit after v12 saying they are bored with nothing else to do.
Wow was the only MMO I played for 4 years, every other MMO has been usually for no longer than a year. Though Wow is also an MMO I perma quitted after cataclysm and will never go back to no matter what they add.
Eso currently only average at best, and that's alright, most MMOs weren't any better when they launched.
But this game still has the potential to be a great game, if it's steered in the right direction.
It's mostly the pvp performance that has let down so many people, it was alright for a couple weeks until it started to get worse, a lot worse. But can be fixed, in time..
I like ESO, it suits my casual play style and the world that has been created is phenomenal! I can't really compare it to other recent MMO's since I haven't played much of those lately.
"Do you want the book or not? Then go whack some people with Wabbajack!!"

Always nice when Zenimax let their staff comment on the forums....lol
Seriously though....
No ! Don't get me wrong its a great MMO and assuming Zenimax get things right I think it could become the #1.
But personally I'd say RIFT was the best new MMO. The innervation in RIFT just made it so different from others of the genre at that time.
SWTOR had potential but fell on it's ass, I just hope ESO doesn't make similar mistakes !
High Elf Sorcerer VR12 - Destro / Resto Staff
I'm a werewolf. If you vamps don't like it.... Bite me !
We're not retreating... we're advancing in a different direction !
Hmmm it's better than GW2 by a country mile but it won't keep me hooked like Daoc did. ESO needs the end game system that Daoc had ( realm rank/skills ) to knock that off my top mmo list.
Patch 1.2.3 nerfed the game....
Zergballing wrecked pvp......
In time it might, once Zeni gets some wind under there wings it sure have the potential to be a great game. But as many have said in other posts. To make a good game great, is the communication with the devs and the community. If you look on the forum i would bet that 8 out of 10 posts are about fixes. I would say 3 out of those 8 posts are giving the information that might be needed to fix the problem. Rest just shoot from the hip and i quit this and i quit that.
As of the best mmo within 5 years. Game wise there is nothing that will top SWG, and a player from beta in that game there was so many options you could do. And what i think was that games downfall was when it started to listen to the community a little bit to much and made it so easy to play that you could place a street cone on your keyboard and u still would be able to kill someone.
There is a fine line from easy to hard and that line is very hard to find for any game developer.
