Housing meets the Justice system!

You better get a lock for that castle!

When housing comes and the Justice system comes, i'm excited at the notion of breaking in and stealing all of your stuff that you so preciously feel is safe in your chests and drawers.

Hiring guards, guild pacts and even cooldowns for recently robbed locations would all be interesting additions. Dogs, pets and traps will be a requirement to all of which adds interesting skill line opportunities to be developed.

Chests are one easy way to store bulk items, but what about safes that safeguard the most unique and worthy treasures. Only the most skilled thieves might crack these.

Penalties associated to these crimes can range and having guilds / player alliances form and crumble from the pressure of medieval punishment and torture will be awesome.

You have been sentenced to 1 hour in the stocks!

How do you see the housing and Justice system intermingling?

Love it. Think it'll never happen.
If your group is bigger than 6 members gain 75% damage reduction.

Write this on the back of your box and see how many sales you get!

You won't get any new PvP players until this archaic AoE crap is fixed.
I for one won't resub until:
    1.) You fix lag.
2.) You remove AOE caps we voted against.
3.) 12 months have passed (this is how long we've waited for you to 'get with it')[/b]

I had read your post and liked it. It may have inspired some of my offline thinking.

I recognize the challenges for implementing something to this scale and also feel it will be unlikely.

I however would like to start using our forum time a bit more productively.

Hehe.. what you've described sounds really fun but I doubt they will make it so you can steal from player characters houses. Could be interesting though. Would definitely be a first for this genre of mmo.

I seriously doubt that Zeni is going to allow players to 'steal' items from the houses of other players. Stealing from an NPC in a game like Skyrim is one thing. Stealing from another player who pays just as much as you do to play the game is an entirely different matter.

And if they -did- institute some sort of 'theft' ability from other players, those players will likely use their 'house storage' to stock up on all their most worthless crafting supplies.

I envision all 'theft' or 'thieves guild' activity to be implemented against NPCs only. Not saying that's the 'best' way, but that's how I imagine they'll do it.

I also envision the housing to be 'instanced' somehow.

So even the dramatics of my idea can be balanced through restrictions and limitations. Character housing levels adjacent to a range of character player levels allowing / disallowing break-ins. Limited items can be stolen, etc.

Instancing would be the most logical way to do housing, so this would pose the most serious challenge,

Seriously it doesn't matter what design comes up with. The last three months should have taught everyone that it will be promptly ruined in implementation.

    Absolutely not.

I would never ever store any item in a location in which it can be stolen or robbed no matter what. I don't care if there is only a .000001^-100% chance.

I also don't like provisioning skill line, motifs, and other things being hidden behind "Crime" and being "Punished" for "looting NPC's houses" and other things which are commonplace in MMO's.

The only thing I liked about that guy was going to wherever guard density was highest and one-shotting him in full view of the guards...and repeating the process every time he respawned

No, it isn't the point of this MMO. That only works in "Hardcore PVP" MMO's like Darkfall. If you want that style of gameplay, go play it.

Lets get to the real issue.

The only people this appeals to is griefers who want to grief and bully others by exploiting thief mechanics.

    HEY

The ability to steal the possessions of other players would have to have a suitable counter balance to it's success, like permanent character death upon critical failure.

If it has to do with the lore of Elder Scrolls, then it is the point of this mmo. Yes they should have steep consequences for it and no it shouldn't be easy. But this isn't a single player game, and it needs to stop being treated as such.

Sounds like a good idea.... but.... You've seen what has happened to vet zones... :( When a minority Is not happy with challenging, maybe - possibly a "unfair" system to casual players... Zenimax seems to nerf it so it's fair and enjoyable to all.. This is why no justice system/game will ever be able to reward the sadist as well as EVE Online does.. My guess ? Because no other company besides CCP is happy with maintaining a niche player base full of sociopaths..

Here's to hoping Zenimax does the right thing and doesn't care bear it...

Oh i love this idea. I remember snooping around in other people houses in SWG. To bad i could not steal stuff back then. I did rob a guildhouse one time, but only because the guild ws gone and i was the only member online for months. I really felt like a sneaky thief.

Given by ZOS' own words housing is nigh on two years away, I don't expect to ever see what you're talking about, far too much water has to flow under the bridge before housing becomes a reality .. and I foresee a drought on the horizon.

It isn't being treated like one, also this isn't a hardcore mmo for griefers. Stop treating it like so. Also, you are misusing the "Lore" argument to make a bastardization. You could justify ANYTHING on that.
