Is ESO Currently Worthy of a Subscription Payment

For my part, a company that chooses to charge a subscription for its game obligates itself to add value above and beyond what one might expect from a non-subscription game. For me that means semi-frequent, quality content updates, fast turnaround on fixes, higher than typical dev involvement with the game's community, and whatever else I am forgetting.

So my question is simple, do you think ESO is currently worthy of a subscription payment?

Yes, I would rather them have the constant updates and bug fixes. IMO one of the biggest issues was that they didn't iron out all their major bugs before releasing Craglorn, which then added in a bunch more... now they are playing catch up after releasing yet another bit of content. I would like it if they slowed down on content release until the bugs are fixed. I do not mind paying for what I am currently getting, though I am not getting 1/10 of the issues it seems a lot of you in the forums are.
Basic circle of complaints on ESO Forums:
    1) Users: Fix game/class/bug
    2) Zenimax Online: Brings servers down and fixes issues and deploys patches.
    3) Users: OMG SERVERS ARE DOWN!!!!!
    4) Zenimax Online: Brings servers back up!
    5) See 1)

VR10 Sword and Board Templar (Heavy Armour), Ebonheart Pact
    LVL 25 Sorcerer, Daggerfall Covenant
    LVL 28 DK, Ebonheart Pact
    LVL 15 Nightblade, Altmari Dominion

Before the announced nerf yesterday I would say "yes its worth it". Now with the nerf I will hold my vote until Monday.

Considering the "cost" of the subscription. Absolutely. As an example, I pay $19 bucks a month for HBO and the ONLY thing I ever watch on it is Game of Thrones and True Blood. ... So about $4 an episode WHEN the seasons are actually playing.

$15 bucks a month is worth it just keeping the spam and bots away from the game.

I say yes also. Maybe its because I too have always been an advocate of the subscription model, or perhaps its because all my characters are still in the level 1-50 group..Its possible I could change my mind later when I hit Veteran but for now- answer is Yes...

I'm pretty critical of this game but I still find myself playing it so I'd be quite hypocritical to say no. Don't get me wrong, it has a long way to go.

Currently my wife and I are enjoying the game immensely. Just a rough guess, we play about 20 hours a week. 80 hours a month, each.

160 hours of entertainment for $30? Yes, please.

By comparison, we watch one or two shows on cable TV (2-3 hours a week) and our cable bill is, what, $90 a month for about 24 hours of entertainment.

Going to the movies, just tickets alone cost roughly $10 each, for a 2 hour movie, which comes to $20 for 4 hours of entertainment.

The math is pretty simple IF you enjoy the game.

If you are not enjoying the game, then I would question your sanity for paying a sub fee for something you do not enjoy. :) Those who find it worth the sub fee, probably pay and play. Those who don't, probably cancel and don't feel it's worth it. Or at least that's what common-sense would dictate in most cases.

If a friend was looking to subscribe to any mmo out there and asked me if this game was worth a sub I would have to tell em no, not atm. I (probably naively) still have hope the stuff they say they are gonna fix will be fixed.

I want the game to thrive and be worthy, so do alot of people who are still hanging on, probably want it more than the people who have bailed already. Just fix our game!
    Do you even backstory, bro?

No, free to play games have the same content updates, bug fixes, patches and experience as this game and you don't have to pay for it. Ex: Tera Online just came out with a new class and raids and it's free to play. They also don't have anywhere near the bugs/hacks/glitches etc.. But then again, Koreans do it better.

Anyone who follows me on the forums know I rag on ZOS a lot, but honestly they do respond to player feedback and do improve the game. There is no doubt that my big "crisis for eso" changes every week as they fix the last crisis.

    This week's crisis:
we need mass bans for cheaters who blatanly exploit (E.g. The speed hack).

    v14 DK Costs

Yes it's worth subscribing too. It's still in it's infancy as a MMO and hopefully ZoS will start listening to the players more and fix the bugs and glitches before the shove more Vet stuff at us. They really did make an awesome game with an awesome story it really just needs to be polished more before releasing new content.

I prefer subscription based MMOs myself for the same reasons mentioned in the OP.

However I'm not getting the service I expect from a subscription based model, therefore currently do not believe it is worth it. Regretfully I also bought the 6 month sub based on my beta and early launch time, I thought the game would only get better. Unfortunately it's done the opposite in my eyes.

I'ts only the second MMO i have ever played where I was invested into my character and cared about what I was doing. It's the third one I have paid a sub to and the first one I don't regret subbing to.

Absolutely NO. They failed to deliver the main service to justify sub fee.

    - Bug fixes are making new bugs and with latest FPS drop issue even the most hardcore fan must admit this is not right. I would compare it to insurance. You pay it, yet they refuse to cover your recovery after accident...
    - we have July and EU server is still sitting in USA

There simply is nothing to justify sub fee at current state.

It you feel that unplayable PvP is worth giving them extra cash then you must have serious addiction :-)

Because you had to pay in order to see if it was worth playing... Not that I hate the game, it's just not my cup of tea. It being free probably wouldn't make me play it more though. 1 day I'll find a worthy successor to EQ =( not today though

Reluctantly I say "yes", in the hope the recent (and past) promises about critical fixes in balance and VR content will start to materialise, coming this week.

Also, hoping we will not end up with an even bigger mess. I have mentioned it in the past, "support and love" for this game can not be unconditional neither should it take an indefinite amount of time to see real improvements.

Meaning, the clock is ticking for the people who (foolishly?) bought a few months of subscription in advance or actually were brave / enthusiastic enough to re-sub.

No so-called free to play MMO is worth playing. They all rely on either exploiting a minority with poor impulse control or on making their free options annoying enough that people will pay to avoid them. In neither case is it a game model worth supporting.

Single player games don't need sub fees because people don't expect to be able to get a steady diet of new, developer-provided content from them. (Rare SP games get user content mods - which don't fit in the MMO genre for obvious reasons, e.g. look at my sword of win for pvp...)

Yes, I'm having fun; yes, the fee is worth it to me. When I stop enjoying it I'll stop paying - but "I've done all I can in this game" is not the same thing as "not worth a sub fee."

    I am Exactly the same.

Ever since EQ I looked for EQ in anything. It wasnt until I know there will be no eq, because there is not enough of us who enjoy a "real" dangerous world, where skill matters most.

Did you ever try EQ2, Vanguard? Both was pretty damn good.....but NOT EQ.

ESO is close, and different with the wide view on what to do.
Think about it. Stable, balanced (not totally) 2 new guilds with skills, New city, new spells. So much they got in their plan.

Its one statement. Lets see where it leads? 15$ a month to get this? Sure!
And btw, I have fun as hell still. Even with the "wrong" spec ;-)

I bet 90% of the guys that voted YES didn't understood the question. It's not ''Does ESO needs to stay SUB'', the questions is ''Is ESO worth the monthly sub for what it offers??''

NO, it doesn't. NOT by far. We paid for update 2 more than 80% of its content were bug fixes... Wake up.

Agree. sadly EQnext decided for some reason to go that way.

I do understand why people want free to play. they see "free".

In sub, not only will the company get money to develop the game, but the type players I really dont want around, normally do dont like to pay for anything.

    I believe in ESO

I have 2 chars vet12. My fps in craglorn and cyrodiil goes to 5 fps - u tell me is that real worth of 15 usd ! How much i should pay for 20 fps - u heard me well i dont need anything more than 20. When they will sort it out ? Then we come to the point to ask question - do i trust them ? In this moment my answer would be - NO. If there is no trust there is no future, and if there is not future - what i have in my hands today ? Game i cant play .
