Do You Use Sword & Board or Dual Wield?

I'm continuing to play a Khajiit Nightblade class. Primary weapon has been the bow. I will be reaching lvl 15 next and want to include some melee skills like the 'teleport attack' and sneaking assassinations with melee weapons to follow with. I don't want to consider staves or 2-h melee weapons. That leaves one handed weapons with a shield or dual wielding. If DW what types and why--like two daggers or a mace and an ax? Or does it matter--just go for those weapons that add up to the greatest damage and enchantments you need?

If the bow is your secondary weapon please consider for this poll what your primary weapons are then?

Should there be any reason to consider this any differently please limit your reasoning to pre-Veteran and PvE only. I do not want comments muddied up with Veteran or PvP reasoning. Thank you.

I have used Sword and Shield; but primarily for PvE; I switch to Resto Staff for PvP.

    1. Regardless of whether you use a bow or staves if you Sword & Board or DW this poll should work still for one of those. I just don't want a discussion of staves, bows, or other 2-H weapons.

    2. If it's helpful remember I am a casual solo gamer and would rather settle for an easy battle over a challenging battle.

    Thanks.

I dual wield daggers. Why? Hmm, it's my preferred archetype in RPGs (rogue/assassin/etc). That's really it, I'm no min/maxer. I don't even use popular abilities like Volcanic Rune because it doesn't fit my sneaky character. Also, my main is an existing character in my personal Elder Scrolls canon. She's a vampire NPC follower that I created (personal mod, not released) in Skyrim who happens to be the sire of my Skyrim main (and she dual wields daggers).

Sword and board on my main w/ Heavy armour. Why? It's what I normally play. Currently pounding out VR8 content and loving it.

Always play tank in MMO´s and that's what we usually wear ;) offspec is heal with sword and shield too.

No big problems so far, but I noticed that my alt Char which is a sorc healer doesn't do that bad either (staff and medium armor).

S&B is far more useful later on imo. Interrupts are very important and DW is terrible for that. S&B also has had fewer problems than the glitchy DW skill line. I have characters w/ both though. NB/DW, DK/S&B

Rocking a sword and board setup on my heavy/light armor DK and loving it. Why? Because tanking is my play style of choice. With this setup I have pretty swell aggro management, can take a bit of a beating so that my groupmates don't have to and I can throw out a relatively decent amount of dps.

    Other bonuses:

Groups love me. Tanks seem to be kinda rare. I get straight up insta-queued in the group finder and receive the occasional random group invite outta nowhere. The line of people that tend to follow me through public dungeons is kinda cute, as are the peeps that wait for me to dive into a dolmen or an elite mob.

Stoke my ego. Yes, just like that. >:)

Well, I'm not quite sure I am gleaning what I hoped to learn. I'm lvl 16 now but haven't put any skills into sword & board or DW yet though I've equipped a sword and a board. I've probably done that because I do block and interrupt when I can and don't like to get stuck tanking. I'm wearing medium armor and a piece of light only because I haven't found something I like for that piece in medium. I think I will try DW for a while. I wonder if I saw lists of pros and cons for both if that would help or still leave me confused? If it didn't matter which I'd DW but I would still block and interrupt.

I've used S+B from lvl 1 all the way up to Vet7 and have been using it on both bars for a long time now. Solo, group, whatever. Having said that, I only use 1 or 2 of the skills from the S+B skill line at a time, the rest is class or guild.

Not sure why you are asking what we use when asking advice on what you should sue.

I use S+B,(templar tank) but you probably will be better off with DW. DW does more damage, and if you are going to teleport attack, I'd assume you want to be more offensive than defensive.

You can block fine and interrupt with DW (you won't block as much damage without S+B passives)

As for what to use. It is mostly a "looks" choice. most weapon skills have similar weapon type passives.
DW final weapon skills passive cause:
    Axe= + bleed dot
    Sword = + dam
Mace = + dam vs heavy armor
    Dagger + crit

relatively minor boosts, but can add up

I have used DW up through Vet level 3 on my Nightblade. I prefer the bow for control at Vet level 3 play though. I have started leveling up the S/B by equipping it during quest turn ins.. and have it up to around level 36, but have not spent skill points on the passives yet as I still have a few to go to complete the Nightblade Class passives. I suspect it will be preferred to go S/B for melee interrupt at higher levels. Would be curious to see what others have to say about sword and board for high level nightblade in medium armor.

Sword and board has been on at least one of my NB tabs since lvl15 and still great at VR12. It is great for most nightblade builds. I used DW for a while and I learned to hate every damn skill in that line. Each of those skill has either an unbearable animation or just sucks. The only good thing about DWis that you can potentially get around 9% more weapon crit with two legendary daggers equipped. The bonuses from S&B are however much better if you are a either a magicka based Assassination/Shadow NB or a Siphoning Sap essence/Siphoning attacks/Strife NB. For the Assassination NB your Shadowy Disguise + Veiled strike combo will crit anyway and for the siphoning builds you need spell crit not weapon crit.S&B is also a good backup for a resto staff user.

Dual Wield with Comments What Types & Why?
My nightblade duel wields two sets of daggers. Originally I went bow and duel swords, but I really liked the duel wielding skills so I never used the bow. Tried the staff and the same thing happened, I felt like the second bar was wasted, so I swapped to two sets of daggers, and haven't looked back.

On think I like is having two duel wielding sets let me craft 3 different armor sets. I get the 3 piece set with two daggers and a jack, then when I switch to the other daggers they pair up with the pants. The other 5 pieces of armor make up another set. You could further complicate things by getting dropped sets with jewelery pieces.

I use daggers for the critical bonus in the duel wielding passive. And just because they're awesome and fit my character. I have my two skill bars setup for ranged and melee, but they also compliment each other. For example I will use the shadow ability on my ranged bar to get beside enemies, use the Sap Essence skill to boost my weapon attacks then swap over to my melee bar and go to town with those skills.

When I'm attacking from range the 28m Flying Blade duel wield skill is pretty powerful, boosting its damage with Sap Essence helps. I alternate between that and the Funnel Health siphoning ability. Evil Hunter(fighters guild) is also great to throw on when you're fighting daedric enemies.

Sword and Board is okay, I just find it a bit TOO easy. DW is a heck of a lot of fun and can dish some nice damage with the right setup and execution.

50:50... Not very conclusive one way or the other so I will flip a coin.

One of my questions too was whether it matters if you use 2 daggers or a mix of any 1-H weapons? Right now I'm using a sword and ax I think.

It seems like 2 daggers would be more typical for dual wield and might maybe result in more DPS but is that the case?

If it's helpful remember I am a casual solo gamer and would rather settle for an easy battle over a challenging battle.

    Thanks.

I tried duel weild and found myself dying more often, I know learn to play blah blah blah, and I will go back to duel weild one day.

Bows and staffs I use occassionally, but dislike the backwards running I end up doing while shooting (except Sorc who stands there while his summons keep mobs distracted).

I haven't tried twohanded, mostly because I disliked it in Skyrim, it was alright I just prefered one handed weapons and maybe a shield.
