Is SoulShine set bugged?

It definitely works for healing, but not for damage. I put the pants on and off (it buffs health so it doesn't affect damage or healing) and noticed the change in my healing, but noticed no change in damage.

I've been using 5 piece set this whole time and I've barely noticed something was off.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Edit: Tooltip
While Casting or Channelinga spell, you damage and healing effects are increased by 20%.

You may see other things with "While Casting" that do affect Instant Cast spells, this is not one of them. The game has vague wording, when it says "casting" in this case it means the spell has to have an actual cast time and NOT be Instant Cast, so it only works on a few spells rather than on everything with a magicka cost. For some spells it's a total cop out like Rushed Ceremony which received an extended animation time before the actual spell casts in the Craglorn patch, but still counts as Instant Cast so it doesn't benefit. Other so called Instant Cast spells that happen after the animation playing has ended also get screwed in this category as well.

Spells that would be affected in damage category would be like the Sorc's Crystal Shard or Templar's Solar Flare. Unfortunately the majority of spells in the game are under the Instant Cast category, whether or not they actually function as Instant Cast as stated in my previous paragraph.

Oh you're completely right. It applies to DoTs and HoTs and spells with cast times, but I've also found it too apply to many instant casts.

I thought it didn't affect anything because I saw it didn't affect that base hit of reflective light, however it did give the bonus on the DoT. It also works with channel spells. Honor the Dead and aurora javelin are also affected, which are instant casts, so I don't know why it doesn't work with the base hit of reflected light. I've found it to work with aurora javelin as well. It seems that only the base hit of reflected light doesn't get the 20% damage buff.

Tooltip for Soulshine set is incorrect. It hasn't chened with 1.2.3 when patch notes say
Soulshine: This item set is now capable of reflecting spells with a cast time.

Haven't done any testing. Can anyone say if it works or not?

edit: It used to got up to vr6, but I have seen it up to vr9 in zone chat. Can Soulshine pieces be found in vr12 flavor now ?

Okay I don't know if it works for sure, but I think it works.

I cast reflective light on a running DK that took the first hit, but reflected the other two with scales. Those two sun fire attacks came back to me roughly at the same time BUT they got reflected back!
I know what I saw, but am not sure if I saw it.

Does the bonus apply to cast time casts and not instanr cast abilities maybe? Increasing all spell casts damage 20% seems like a very good buff.

I've no idea why they feel compelled to make such contorted and convoluted bonuses to the point you have no idea if it will even work or not with your skills.

This is what we call a failure to communicate. It wouldn't be the first time they failed in this regard.

Oh, I know at least one class who'd like this set so much, even if it's just for one channeled spell (Templar) And, be aware, most but not all heals are instants!

This is the other set with reflection.

I've seen the set up to vr10. Tooltip is still wrong. The set does work properly although I haven't tested the reflect ability yet, although I may have seen it in action.
Let it be noted that you can increase your spell damage by a higher percentage with jewelry than with the soulshine set, however you get good regen from the set.

Yes, I get he didn't make the typo, but the point I was making was why not edit the quote so the typo is fixed, all you have to do is put in a space.

And thanks for the redirect, seeing the typo in the tooltip helped.

"Typo" does not only signify "interpuction" but also grammar, writing and spelling errors, imo  #

Back to topic: Are you 100% sure this set can drop until VR 10, otherwise I've to farm (the relative) VR 7 area as long until I get that set.
For my templar, especially for my buffed lance-tecnique, that set sounds like: "we will rock you!" :disagree: (no other set bonus is that attractive for me) I must have it!

    I tested the reflect thing.

    The set doesn't reflect crap.

But if your use defensive stance on sword and board to reflect: It does increase the damage of the reflected projectile by 20% now, so thats probably what they meant with that engrish patchnote.

Also to people making things up:
This set DOES affect instant cast abilities. And the descript says it does. It's just heavily bugged so it only affects some.

I would like to know also if you find any spot to get the parts also.

Got the VR9 ring tonight at Alik'r Desert, from some random trash mob.

Thought, let me see if I can get any more parts. So found VR10 necklace.
However no VR10 armour parts or rings on the 3 trade guilds I belong. (EU)
    (found VR8 ring, VR7 neck, VR6 shoulders, VR7 Cuirass).

The description is that it affects channelled abilities.
    So
Puncturing Sweep, Healing Ritual, Rite of Passage, Nova.
(my solar disturbance going to tick for 300+ <evil laugh>)

And in extend Soul Strike, Bat Swarm, Drain Essence.

If is true that gives the bonus to the dots, or spells like Dark Flare, then we are talking about one of the best sets for Templars out there.

Also I am Khajiit, so it will be a perfect fit.

Is 00:20 atm. I bought the VR6-7 parts, and have a 5 set now. I need to change some parts of my current set then (torso - shoulders), and I will let you know tomorrow evening as I return from work, how it performs.

Ok this morning before work, decided to have a quick trip and test against VR10 Clanwarriors (outside Evermore).

I am at work atm, so I cannot post CLS results. However,

3 jewel + heavy Cuirass and shoulders, Soulshine set ON, V9 templar, 2002 Magicka,

Puncturing Sweep hits for 119 and heals for 57.

Without the set, but with 12 power glyph on my ring, and medium armour, 2001 Magicka

Puncturing Sweep hits for 126 and heals for 50.

The set I removed while doing the test (Torso - Pads) was from the Hirst Bark, Medium armour, so doesn't affect any damage output.

When I go home I will remove the power ring and run some more tests.
FYI I killed 3 solo mobs per test. (with and without the set).

So, I personally believe that the set bonus isn't working with Sweep :(

I will test tonight other Dots and dark flare.

For the tests I ran, only heal was really affected.

I tryed with soulstrike ultimate (which is a channeled skill) and didn't notice any difference in damage.

As a healer, I found that the lost of 2 piece of light armor and of other set bonus such as warlock and spell cost reduction not really worth it in PvE

(and to answer someone question, I also found a VR10 part after 1.2.3 patch)

Pucturing Sweep is Spell Damage/Power based not weapon based.

I have 2001 Magicka, 100 Spell Power and Puncturing Sweep III.
(only started using it on Tuesday and changed a glyph for more HP but regretting it).

In game tooltip states 67 Magic Damage + 110% to the closest target.

Someone might argue that 126 damage is not the right damage it should be doing.
    (Actually should be 140 = 67 * 2.1)

Could be a bug? But that is a different matter.

At 88 power (when removed my ring to put the Soulshine) it was stating 63 Magic Damage.

With Soulshine is doing 119 per hit.
(again should be doing 63 * 2.1 = 132 before Soulshine taken into account)

Also with made sure on my test that when replaced the Soulshine items, I wouldn't affect my max magicka.
(1 magicka more I got with Soulshine set which means nothing)

So if Shoulshine affects only DoTs, the point is does it worth when using Vampire Bane & Solar Disturbance? I doubt it. Because PS is my bread and butter.

Also the extra healing of the set isnt working.

    Because
Two Medium parts (Torso + Shoulders) I get 50 hp heal on 126 damage.
Two Heavy parts (Torso + Shoulders) I get 57 hp on 119 damage.

So 2 part heavy armour with Rapid Mending 2/2 = 2% bonus.

Changing the 2 Med with 2 Heavy, 50hp heal becomes 51 hp heal.
    +20% from the Soulshine = 61 hp

However that is 57 not 61.

Maybe compile a bug report with our findings to ZoS for further investigation?

When you changed from soulshine to medium armor did you notice a change in weapon power? I know sweeps crits from weapon crit, that is why I say sweeps damaged is determined by weapon power.

In my own testing I found Soulshine not to affect the base hit of vampires bane, but it did affect the dot. It did affect my HoTs and darkflare. I
