What is a good amount of gold to have when I hit VR?

G’day guys,
I’m not far off hitting VR and I’m wondering how much gold I should have (I’ve heard repair costs can be quite high). I’m probably a little on the low side considering I deconstruct all gear instead of vendoring it, but now that I can craft 1-VR12 gear I’m trying to make a little bit back.

Thank you.

Gold (coinage) is over rated and easy to make.

Repair costs, or at least the damage to gear via combat, has been reduced dramatically. You will not spend much gold on repair.

I think I was VR2 before I could afford a draft horse, so if you have one - or any of the 42k horses, you are doing better than me and I did just fine.

I too deconstructed armor/weapons until I was at level 40 for those Crafting Skills, then I started selling what I picked up so I only just made it to about 35-50K.

Granted, that's with quite a FEEEWWWW of the expensive Skill Point resets and buying bag and bank space.

One piece of advice: Make sure to repair early and often if you want to save money. Two repairs of 10% broken gear cost less money than one for 20% broken gear. (At least that is how I think it works. I have no hard numbers or official citations to support this, it's just what I have observed while playing the game.)

Repair costs were never a problem for me in 1-50, because I discarded stuff as I outleveled it and could always find acceptable gear during quests. I crafted very few items for myself, and I almost never repaired anything, I just deconstructed it.

When you hit VR levels (or when they hit you ;), it depends on how you look at it), you will not outlevel gear nearly as quickly, and even though you will still find loot, it will not be enough if you want a particular matched set for its buffs, or if you want higher level enchants of a particular kind on it. The vanity factor also started to kick in for me after constantly wearing a hodge-podge of mismatched green or white pick-up trash for levels 1-50. Now I want my character to look good. This, and the fact that I still die a lot in VR levels, has made repairs a lot more common.
