Nah, the Beothuk were able to kick Viking butt, they were that tough.

Too bad the Vikings arrived on Newfoundland about 1000 AD and the Beothuk didn't form until around 1500 AD... Just who the natives the Vikings encountered were, have never been 100 % established although likely it was the Dorset culture.

Btw, why don't we have fireworks in the game? Probably of some dwemer origin?
Why mages (sorcerers) can't do some magic tricks? (Not for snob archmages, of course).

    Happy 4th of July, people!
Fireworks would have been great. I've been saying for awhile now Zos should really look into having events in game. It would bring players together regardless level, race, play style, ect.

We may just have to make our own I guess.
    Happy 4th all!

When asked what he would do for a Klondike bar. Grand Moff Tarkin said "why I would blow up Alderaan."

Happy 4th? Celebrating turning your back on your home country. While back stabbing the Native Americans whom aided in the victory.
Pretty sure if Native Americans could go back in time Columbus would have met his untimely end. Thus ending the invasion or rather occupation before it even began.
    Just saying
Ah yes and the nice way that the brits treated the celts, the scots, the irish, the east Indians, etc etc etc, not to mention the need for the "colonies" to save your bacon in the first and second world wars.
    Just saying....

Maybe they'd be celebrating Leiv Eiriksson day instead? :-P

Nope that guy died almost 300 years before said Spanish explorer "found" the Americas. So whom ever agreed also seems to be a bit off on their time line of events.

The Vikings had a colony on Newfoundland and maybe in Nova Scotia for about 10 years, but the Beothuks managed to kick them out. The Vikings went home, said Vinland was crapola, and didn't bother with it further. That was around 1100 AD or something, before guns were invented.

We don't have Columbus Day here in Canada, anyway. I think that day falls on our Thanksgiving. We don't have days for Cartier, Champlain, Caboto, or John A. MacDonald, either.

Hope ye Americans had a nice holiday with nice weather for the fireworks.

    1. The Vinland journeys were around 1000 AD
    2. The natives that the Vikings encountered were likely the Dorset Culture. Beothuks didn't exist until around 1500 AD...
    3. While there is no clear-cut evidence, some of the very rare written material left behind on Greenland after the initial Norse colonists, suggest that even though they might have given up permanently settling the area they still made journeys there - it is quite natural - Newfoundland is a fairly short distance from Greenland (compared to Iceland, Ireland or Norway) and they needed timber for their houses - which couldn't be found on Greenland.

    1. Ok, that was my first thought, but I second-guessed myself. I knew they came pretty early.

    2. If one is the ancestor of the other, then I see little difference. Tough, respectable types, I would imagine, if they had the metaphorical steel to drive off Vikings. My Newfie Metis ex will insist up and down that Beothuk are not totally extinct, that some would have hid/cross-bred with MiqMaqs; I think he might have a point, but their culture and identity is gone either way. I always try to see the continuum; a culture might change, but the people are still the same (barring genetic swamping that causes a rapid culture change, of course.) The most confusing thing about both evolutionary science and history is the terminology and the pigeonholing, even when pigeonholing doesn't make sense and the terminology changes wildly because of one small change (I'm having a hard time explaining this. but it's along the lines of ... when does a feathered theropod become a bird?

    4. Oh, perhaps; they were great traders and such. But I would imagine they would have stayed just long enough to grab stuff and go, before the First Nations caught 'em trespassin'. ;)
