Because you had to pay in order to see if it was worth playing... Not that I hate the game, it's just not my cup of tea. It being free probably wouldn't make me play it more though. 1 day I'll find a worthy successor to EQ =( not today though
No so-called free to play MMO is worth playing. They all rely on either exploiting a minority with poor impulse control or on making their free options annoying enough that people will pay to avoid them. In neither case is it a game model worth supporting.
Single player games don't need sub fees because people don't expect to be able to get a steady diet of new, developer-provided content from them. (Rare SP games get user content mods - which don't fit in the MMO genre for obvious reasons, e.g. look at my sword of win for pvp...)
Yes, I'm having fun; yes, the fee is worth it to me. When I stop enjoying it I'll stop paying - but "I've done all I can in this game" is not the same thing as "not worth a sub fee."
