Do We 'HATE' this Game or Just 'LOVE' to Complain ???

Ok I conducted a little social experiment this morning here on the forums (yes I'm that bored). Anyway... I posted two threads at almost exactly the same time, to see which would generate the most interest !

I'd hoped the positive would get more, I expected the negative to get more. I didn't expect the result to be so conclusive !

The Negative Thread - 75 views http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/116659/player-complaints-we-are-not-a-happy-bunch-need-some-lovin#latest

The Positive Thread - 23 views
http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/116660/something-nice-for-a-change#latest

As I said I kind of expected the negative thread to get more views, I didn't think it would be more than 3x the number of views !
Do we hate this game that much or have we just become so accustomed to complaining?

Neither. People are voicing their displeasure with bugs, features, game design, no communication, etc. That does not mean people hate the game. If they hated the game they would post nothing, quit and play something else.

As these boards become less and less active, and they have, that is when ZOS should be very, very concerned.

I don't know if the forums have become less active. I have noticed one trend...
A lot of the 5 star/long term posters are missing, there are a lot more soul shriven here recently (unfortunately almost all complaining)
It seems as though a lot of the die-hard players are giving up

Its not the positives that got more, but we have more users who "dares" to involve themselves. With all sort of opinions. The difference is...they play the game and have a base understanding what ESO is.

Not everything is good and shiny. When Zeni have this fantastic way of us reporting problems and bugs. We use em. And it works.

People simply confuse that, with out of the blue, no idea where it come from, but certainly not anything ESO ever promised or said, like the complete fantasy of the 100 topics demanding an AH.

Ok, you didnt read the info about ESO. Fair enough. How about now...when you know it doesnt fit the game with an AH, and been answered several times before launch?

More demands. Ok.....not all stops demanding things just because the fact it will never happen and got a reason why.

Still keep demanding. Then they dont like not getting replied to. Erhm? How many times do they have to reply the same thing?

This group have been "owning" these forums, with only me and few others trying to join any discussion, but only end up with a HUGE target on us.

I cant post a single thing, no matter what it is, and the "gang" press "lol" just for fun I guess. Same thing I would expect from players, or forum users (not sure they play really), that keep demanding something they get a firm answer wount happen. I try to see it as I have a fan club =)

That said, Zeni is open for suggestions from us. Look at those tunic thingies. That wasn't anywhere I saw in the description of ESO. Yet, it fit in, was a good idea, so why not?

I think we gonna see more "positive" posts and proper discussions.

Also, at some point, players who do not like ESO, not for bugs, but because it wasnt the game they wanted it to be.....they leave....or most of em. Hopefully more will start to use this forum. Reddit is quite interesting. Not always positive, but at least most people there read what ESO is. ;-p

Other players opinions arent that important to me, but I'm more likely to read the negative threads...because the lulz.

If you wanna get all psychological about it: players are here and complaining because they love the game, if they genuinely hated the game, they'd just quit full stop.

I've played lots of MMO's, a few I've hated. Never once posted on their forums.

When me and my friends all came from STO back in November/December to play the beta, who do you think was the big advocate for us to come?

Me. I instantly loved the game as it was. I knew with some polish it would be absolutely amazing.

What I hate is how they have taken that beautiful game and taken a dump on it every patch since launch, functionality-wise.

We don't so much hate the game, as there's just alot to complain about. As more time passes, the various bugs and errors become less and less acceptable. Notice how 1 month after launch, you would see a lot of people defending the game, saying how it's still brand new. Fixes take time. Now we're going on 4 months, and some of the bugs from beta are still here. Not to mention new bugs every patch. You don't see nearly as many people defending the game with that excuse anymore.

    My 2c's...

I waited for the best part of a year to play this game with high expectations of joining an MMO set against the backdrop of a TES world.

    Where am I today?
    - I love the ambition/aspiration/notion of the game and I love how the world looks.
    - I hate the current state of the game and am alarmed by the diminishing population.

If the game was living up to expectations I probably wouldn't be spending so much time on the forums; I'd be playing the game instead. However it's not living up to expectations so I find myself coming to the forums to look for news that things are improving and occasionally contribute to the discussion.

Sure, there's a whole bunch of negativity on the forums BUT that's probably because people care about the game and they're disappointed that something that they've been stoked up about for some time isn't living up to expectations.

    'tis what it is.

    Woooaa! What?

I'm not liked, I got that quite fast in may from people who thought this was WoW v2.

Could you elaborate? Your comment doesn't make sense to me.

You're just contributing to the weird amount of "meta-posts" concerned with posts...concerned with posters on a forum for posting.

Which serves only to dilute the board, flame-war, further the evils of ad-hoc reasoning, and censor constructive criticism.

I particularly liked your assumption that those who voice their problems with the game "hate it." It's both insulting, and simplistic. Well done, sir. :)

Whet he said. I want the game to change for the better so my considerable time and money investment isn't wasted. Not that I expect it to change for the better but I'd love to be given reason to renew my sub when it expires.

Forums associated with games are always the same.

Only a small minority of players actually use the forums and of those, it's always the moaners who make the most noise. The majority of players just get on with playing the game.

I only look in on the forums because I don't work, due to illness and have too much time on my hands.

I just think no game has ever generated the felling of the need to success as much as this one.
I mean the game has a huge potential and its bases are very good , with just some small changes it can become huge
I think this is why it generates so many negative posts.

I so agree with this. I mean I want this game to succeed so bad but the current developer team...ahh...just for comparison..when the A dev team creates the game..(these guys are expensive and move away from the project after they do this)....the B guys come in and do the maintenances for the code and such..BUT..

...one would think the cooperate together... but as it is in ESO it looks like the A dev team left the game code in an ancient crypt to be discovered through a long and painful journey by the B dev team and still when they find it its written in riddles and codes coming from a different elemental plane...

If you would ask me, I would say that there is no real "hate" towards ESO. There is not even "hate" directed towards ZoS staff. And why there should be any. Alright, except for the odd post or person here and there.

There is certainly frustration and possibly disappointment and displeasure and many times this is manifested in the Fora (ah by the way the plural is Fora, you know), perhaps even with purely angry and aggressive posts.

The question is... what all those people are supposed to do. Just sit back in apathy, accept their fate, continue to fork out their money for subs, hoping for the "second coming" or something? That it would be alright to wait a few months, why, a year or two, until the correct formula for ESO has been invented so it can live up to its promises and high expectations?

Yes, people are not stupid either. Even those who have not actually played MMOs before. They realise that every new game and launch might have its issues, it can not automatically work 100% perfect from day one. And are tolerant and sympathise with efforts to solve problems and improve it.

But... on the other hand. It has been 3 good months now since launch, and more months since the Beta days. And it appears that the game is not actually progressing much. If anything there are more screw ups and issues affecting many people. Unless they are all liars and hell bent to see ESO go to the dogs. Kinda hard to believe that. But, just look what has happened with the latest update. Facts speak for themselves.

And there are still a ton of issues to be addressed on top of all the new mishaps. Something just ain't right. You could ask any "outsider" who is not playing ESO, or even someone who has no interest or knowledge in the game. Just show them the facts and the current state of affairs, and ask them for their "unbiased" opinion. Would be rather interesting.

Bottom line is: most people have been patient and are still being patient (unexpectedly so I could say). But you know, patience is a finite resource too. I believe many players want to experience ESO to its full potential and see it become huge and successful. Right now it just isn't. They want to experience all that was promised and be involved in its awesome world.

But, please, don't just tell them it will get better... "sometime", "soon", "one day". People need some signs of actual improvement and beneficial fixes and additions (not saying that ZoS have not done nothing, they have, one example being the "battle against bots"). Even a little bit. In the end, it goes like governments: you can not fool everyone forever.

Leaving aside the ongoing abysmal quality issues, the game has been out long enough and there have been enough patches and new content to discern the direction of the game takes after the first faction story.

And it isn't a direction an unknown but probably significant portion of subscribers don't want to go.

People who invested time and money will understandably be unhappy at the radical change of direction.

They are wasting their breath though. ESO is developing into precisely the game Zen want it to be. If you don't like it there's no point continuing to sub in the hope it might magically change.

Neither. Open the option up a bit more instead of pinning players to one tag or the other.

I have never said a negative word against DAoC, even after the merger that cost the game it's identity in the industry.

However I have said more than any ones share of ill things about TESO and everyone based on bugs, breaks, glitches, cheats, hacks, poor design, poor execution. See where that was going? I do not "hate" the game, it does not mean it has not been an absolute disaster for competitive players and long term content.

I do not love to complain either. It makes me feel awful that I get more out of forums than I do the game. That speaks volumes about what is going on.
