WITH temper expertise passives 3/3

you need 2 greens to improve to green

3 blues to improve to blue

4 purple to improve to purple

8 yellows to improve to yellow

yet, the increase to legendary is almost trivial, and on the same scale as the rest

wtf? haha

It's simple. If the gain is trivial, don't make Legendaries.

I think somebody did an analysis in the early days and came up with the fact that legendary accounts for about 5% of the total that you get from a full upgrade. So in most cases it's pretty useless. I can see it on weapons but unless you're keeping your armor set over 3 or 4 VR levels it's not a good ROI.

The rates posted in the starting post is correct.

It is simpler to understand if you view it in the % chance of success per temper item.

Without any expertise skill points, it is 20% per piece for green, 15% per piece for blue, 10% per piece for purple and 5% per piece for gold.

After 3/3 expertise it becomes 50% for green, 37.5% for blue, 25% for purple and 12.5% per piece for gold. i.e. a 2.5x increment on the rate compared to without any expertise.

Trivial? Are you insane? The increase to Gold is huge and expensive. The system as is works.

    i'm actually pretty sane

the increase from purple to gold is the same as blue to purple (while it takes 8 yellows vs 4 purples....and i'm talking about stat gain...read above, the ROI is garbage)

so no, you're wrong and your post should be deleted

Keep purple - gold mats for vr12 (soon VR14) items.

On weapon, after V3-4 make a blue one and use it for the next 2 veteran ranks.

Armour no point to upgrade here.
1-50 white armour is more than enough.
V1-10 it takes so much beating at the veteran areas, while mobs have 95% spell & armour penetration, that whatever is cheaper use it.

I am using WHITE, level 40 crafted (set 5+3) Medium-light armour at V9 when I am exploring or questing even the VR9 area. Cheap to repair when I am not in hassle to make a new set, and have plenty of mats for them.

I use my good stuff at Cyrodiil (usually Green until VR12).

The only exception are the glyphs post VR5.
I made Kuta (gold) on both V5 and V9 sets. And I will do the same when I obtain V12 ones.

    Is a luxury I can afford :)

Any upgrades before that, are just pointless and not worth the money.

You didn't read correctly he has 3/3 expertise meaning his numbers are correct and the cheapest it gets for 100%.

    Look at it this way...

2 for green - Down from 5 originally or -3
3 for Blue - Down from 7 originally or -4
4 for Purple - Down from 10 originally or -6
8 for Yellow - Down from 20 originally or -12

I think that's a pretty fair system. Now if you want to discuss the value of Legendary items, that might be worth discussing, but I suspect its an issue of balance more than anything.

You don't get twice the stat increase from purple because its a non linear system. You get diminishing returns. This is alright with me, since it restricts legendary to mostly high level items. Would you feel that your gold item is special if every lvl 10 had one?
