Why are blur/evasion so weak?

It is a mystery to me why, at first sight, the evasion style mitigation skills seem so much worse than other protection powers, whether class or armor-based.

15% seems very low. By contrast, annulment offers a damage shield and 50% less damage from spells; immovable a massive armor and resistance boost as well as immunity to knockback etc.

Can anyone explain how these evasion skills are not massively underpowered by comparison? Am I misunderstanding the maths here somehow?

Thanks!

I'm not too sure, but their duration seems to be what's making up for it, since they last around 20 seconds, which is pretty long.

However, I must say that since this game is so heavily magic-based, it's pretty useless since the dodge does not work against magic attacks -at least for Evasion, not sure for Blur-. Overrall, it just seems like a waste to me.

With full medium armour elude dodge goes to 22% and can be cast before a fight from a different bar so not taking up any slots of your normal combat bar. Its worth having just for that. I'm not sure if things like Elude, blur, ember explosion stack though. If they did you would be almost unhittable.....if thats a word.

Again hence so many have complained about the skill in the NB lines, that despite investing in it waiting to have the skill so high and the return is so uh blah........

The NB blur skill is hardly worth slotting, even on the second bar.
If you as a NB cannot kill your target in 2-3 secs, you are likely dead anyway...

You often have 3 targets to kill though and in that time you make take a few hits. If Elude or Mirage mean you avoid just one thrown dagger its worth having. I have speced into lots of long duration buffs that I cast from a pre fight bar then switch to my normal attack bar. Most are ever 20 seconds so they last most of the fight and together make up for a lot of damage mitigation. If you have spare SP its worth taking them, especially for vet zones. A missed block or dodge/roll can get you killed but all the extra buffs give you a little wiggle room

When you stack evasion for mitigation you are relying mostly on RNG for damage mitigation which is meh at best, you can have a good runoff dodges then get crit for almost half your health so its pretty unreliable to be a mitigation tank. In medium armor you should at a minimum receive a passive called acrobatics which leaves you with a static 20% dodge. Then the evasion should be another 30% with a 10 sec CD and a higher cast cost considering its the top medium armor active ability. Blur can stay at 15% considering it has a nice addition bonus of setting enemies off balance. So as a max evasion character you could essentially have a max of 65% dodge. Even at 65% dodge you will still take a beating so It would not be too OP.

On a side note they need to make sure that when blocking your Dodge percentage caps to compensate... say to 20%. That way evasion artist can dodge a majority of incoming attacks while blocking heavy blows and a Shield tank can block everything with a slight chance to dodge. They should compliment each other with out both being maxed at the same time.

Hence also why most wanted a real fix in NB class and not this make shift increase your stamina crap that is being given in 1.2.3. which at the same times then gives immunity to CC.
Not really sure what the Dev's are seeing but so far it something they are worried to allow stamina based / NB / Templar to get a true improvement on their skill lines.

I just have no idia why they put same type of skill in Armor line and Class line.
I dont know any other class which had a skill you can have for free from armor , guild or world lines.

For me, Assasination looks more like a sustain combination of skills then assinatation.
At the same time Shadow skill lane looks more like Assasination to me, because Surprise Attack is the only skills which able to pull off somewhat decent damage from ambush (i say somewhat, because it is still nowhere near to regular 2h heavy or Wrecking Blow ambush).
All i can see is using Impale for finishing and Ambush for annoy people.
And btw ppl spam Ambush in PVP not because it deal any decent dmg, its just because they become very hard to be targeted and partialy invulnerable while blinking.
Still, even specing into full Magicka and spell damage to maximize your Ambush(the skill) damage and spent all of your magicka by spamming it wont turn down any1 to even half of his HP. Thats not what i call Assasination ...

Ultimate of Assasination tree is also a joke after nerf. No Ambush bonus and lousy incombat damage -.-
Yes, ofc it is only cost 50 ultimate.
But first of all you dont gain much ultimate points by using weapon or assasination tree skills, secondly it deal less damage then any other normal skills untill you accamulate 600 or more Ultimate points.
Stun you say ? Pfft, Soul tither gives same stun duration without any excuses like that enemy have to be with more health then you and deal many times more damage and at the same time this stun is AOE.

Why cant you just make Assasination Ulti deak strick heavy single target damage ?

I've tested Blur/Mirage in PvP; it impacts magicka attacks and can have some fair benefit.

Nothing quite as satisfying as a skill landing at me and doing nothing (no damage nor CC) while "Missed" pops up in my combat cloud. Even more fun when the Disorient from Mirage procs and I can knock them down right after.

Evasion/Elude I am still fiddling with in PvP; in PvE it's given me a ton of damage mitigation on AoE grind, but the benefits seem to do very little to carry over to PvP.

Stacking the two buffs in PvE allows me to survive groups I otherwise cannot. I wish the effect was as pronounced in PvP. =/

    This is helpful.

But I still can't see how both these skills are not far less effective than their heavy and light armor counterparts - immovable and annulment.

I still don't understand why it's such a low number - 15% - when annulment gives you a damage shield PLUS 50% less damage from magic (which is predominant anyway in this game). This is a HUGE discrepancy in power. So much so, that I find it hard to believe it exists... and assume I must be missing something in the maths here.

Mixed with specific armor sets you can get your dodge up over 40%, which is a pretty sizeable dodge rate.

I slot blur for my NightCat tank to withstand mob packs. Works for me. And and additional chance to set attacker off-balance is nice, too.

I suppose evasion skills are not weak, but situational. More options are good.

Any long duration buffs that don't agro and can be triggered from your 2nd bar are basically free damage/mitigation. They don't take any slots up on your attack bar. If there was a passive that gave 15% more armour or 15% more damage would you take it? Sure as hell you would

I agree with him. In pvp autoattacks are an insignificant part. All classes, specially mages, will use skills, so what's the point in evade aa in pvp? No one.

But it is usefull when "solo pve", even if the skill has a "pvp morph", is still useless.

I would think it in another way, there are others skills that fits better in pvp and pve.

They don`t stack. They get checked one after the other!
