Zone Chat not appearing

Good morning,
I'm having a problem with one of my zones. I rolled a new alt a couple of days ago and when I load it in the starter zone for EP, there is no chat. There was chat a last night for awhile, but then it went silent.
I checked my filters and Zone chat is enabled. There are others in the zone - I can see them. I can say things to them. But Zone chat is completely dark.
Zone chat appears in other zones for other alts.
Any idea what the problem might be? Is there a keystroke to silent chat?

MaxBat✭✭✭You can silence zone chat by unchecking the box under chat options. If that's checked, then I've don't know. Maybe people are playing the game?
I completely ignore zone chat when I'm questing. I shut the window down completely. But usually there's something there: gold spammers, at least.
Seems I recall the starter zones are light on chat anyway. The only other thing is maybe you got banned from chat. Can Zenimax ban people from chat? Or block people? Don't know.
I wouldn't worry about it. I think I'd enjoy a silent chat session rather than a dozen gold spammers or people selling motifs for 1k gold ...
