Patches at MMO´s are always big, this isn't a tiny shooter where you only fix a weapon bugJust look at the list, its a lot and files need to be patched to be compatible with the changes.
Its not a simple exchange of files, it requires a lot more coding than you might be aware of.
I did download 4GB and that's it, not sure where you found those 9 GB
While its a lot and for someone on capped internet access, its not any different in other MMO´s, especially if they patch content.
You only don't notice it, because most MMO´s let you DL stuff while you play so that you already have the Data required when the patch is released and you only grab a few MB upon log in.
In my opinion ZO should add a background downloader, Blizzard has a good system there and it keeps the hassle with downloading at an absolute minimum. That however wont change the fact, that patching can be a few GB this is pretty standard for MMO´s and should be considered if someone decides to play an MMO on a capped connection.

Wrong... they admitted how big it was... and 8-9 gig for a patch is not the norm.
OMG the game is horribly broken.
OMG maintenance is taking to long to fix the game I said was broken.
OMG the patch is too big to fix the game I said was broken.
OMG the game is horribly broken!
And over, and over, and over again.
Seriously, they are doing major updates every month, and that will mean that once a month, they will push a large update to us with lots of bug fixes and new content. Some of what they fixed in this patch impacted game-play across the entire game. Of course it was a large patch.
Could ZoS have made the patch smaller? I have no idea. Would I have wanted to wait another week or two while the optimized the patch to make it smaller if they could? Absolutely not- because then I'd have to read everyone whinging on here about how long it was taking to bring out the next update.

Yeah, I got just under 9Gb total download. If 9Gb is what it takes then In guess that's what it needs
My bandwidth is 5mB and the patch only allowed me to download at around 600/kBps. I think anyone with less than that should leave their machine on overnight, but I have no sympathy for them because they are the players who probably lag all over the place in every multiplayer game. This is a massive multiplayer with massive updates. Expect large downloads and learn to accept the things you can't change.

So your argument is that if they can't download the patch (which, despite your claim, is NOT even remotely normal for an mmo) quickly, they deserve no sympathy because they are lagging all over the place?
Nice.
This game is terribly optimized. Period. I have in excess of 60m in download speed and still have issues here and there. All the while, it takes less than 5% of my cpu, ever.
I still don't see what this has to do with their memory... it is simply a patch that is way too big, period. I won't simply "expect large downloads", I'll "expect" them to get their act together.
Sure thing, we will. Those of us who actually care about the future of the game and want as many people to play it as possible will continue to push for optimization.Ok whatever. Cry more.
I don't agree and I'll say it right here. The updates are big and that is not a problem. You are complaining about something that you can't change and it's pointless.emeraldbay wrote: »Sure thing, we will. Just because something doesn't directly affect you doesn't mean it isn't a valid point. If you don't agree with what I (we) have to say, then go say so elsewhere.
Getting back on topic, I'd like to see Zenimax at least update their launcher so that people don't have to repair the game files after every major content patch. If we can get that far, we're getting somewhere.

The updates are big, and it is quite a problem if you have data caps or limited play time. You have to remember that not everyone has light speed unlimited internet, and not everyone has the time to fully dedicate themselves to this game. Furthermore, we're complaining about something that perhaps we can't change, but the programmers and developers sure can. If we attract their attention, they just might listen to us.I don't agree and I'll say it right here. The updates are big and that is not a problem. Actually the size of those updates is not fine, especially not if your internet has caps.
And by complaining we bring to the attention of the Forum Mods, who in turn might have a quick word with the Devs.
This. A larger hard drive will fix absolutely nothing for anyone experiencing memory issues as an HDD does not deal with memory.

Most of the US has data caps these days given under the guise of "combating piracy".
I downloaded the EU client recently on two machines.
Got a cease and desist letter because I pulled down 60 gigs in 24 hours.
But no, large downloads are never a problem.

If your internet is too limited for the game, then you need to upgrade it. The entire community should not have to suffer from limited content just because few people haven't joined the new millennium.

Gtfo. Do you have any idea how much data is used to stream shows in HD from Netflix? Some months I've used over 100GB and never was given such a ridiculous letter. You need to contact your ISP if you have a problem like this.

If you ask me, it's worth the trouble, but if it's truly pointless, then you shouldn't mind if we complain just a little longer. c:

A very small minority should not represent the entire population.

I fear that because of your comment, some people areund here will tell you are crying like a baby, you are a wow child, etc, etc and ZOS will release the next patch having 20 gbs download.

Months.
Did you pull down over 60 in 24 hours?
My ISP also throttles *because* of Netflix.
You say get a new provider. Who? We have no competition here. Its SuddenLink or no one.
Grow up, seruously.

I never get one...Then give the option for auto update after maintenance..or would that over load the servers?
I totally agree with the patch over a week instead of all at once though.
they don't, we had to ask here and a rep came in and posted a response.
Thats BS at least give us that, they announce it anyway and its not like they dont know the size.
Im sorry I dont usually complain but the useless content could have been avoided, I mean light ect., and I was really disappointed when I found out the items you pick up are completely useless, unless your level 3 and skipped the intro.
On the off chance that I do abandon ESO, yes, you may have my stuff. I'll ask for your character name when and if I decide I'm through.This. Mega QQ dude, do I need to buy you a new HD... delete some *** and youll have no issues.....*** or eso.
But In all seriouness....QQ dude.... crying because of large file size...really.....I mean really..... you even acknowledged there were bug fixes and your still mad.....
Ive seen this before....and im going to go with a preemptive strike.........
Can I have your stuff?
