Spell Damage Stat

Drav1n

What determines the Spell Damage stat on the character sheet?

Reason I am asking is I have recently ran into to odd comparisons, my VR6 breton nb has 89 SD, a friends VR6 dark elf dk has 91 SD. My VR12 dark elf nb has 91... why does my breton nb have 2 less SD?

Any clear explanations on this would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering about that myself. My main is VR2 DK with something like 83 spell damage and like 95 weapon damage. First I thought that SD scales with magicka but there's no effect when you use magicka raising food. I haven't seen any passives that improve spell damage, though maybe I missed something. Anyway, I would also appreciate help on this issue.

I think the spell damage stat goes up each level until VR and the only other ways to raise it are + spell power jewelry, + spell power potions, and buffs (skills) that raise the stat and possibly some passives.

Raising magicka does not raise the spell damage stat, but it can cause your magicka based skills to do more damage. Does that make sense?

Here are some links I found that might explain it further:

Thank you for the response and the links, they are very helpful for people looking to understand how the spell damage stat works however i was unable to find anything in them threads to answer my original question, the closest i found was that we gain 1.5 spell power per level till level 50 which equates to 75 which doesn't match up with what my VR char's have. My VR6 breton NB has 89, my VR9 wood elf templar has 88, my VR12 dark elf NB has 91, my friends VR6 dark elf DK has 90... my question here is where is the rhyme to reason here? Why are these numbers all over the place? Do races play a part? Spell Power is a very powerful stat where 3 or 4 points here and there can make a difference, I'd like to know with certainty how these points are acquired.

You would have to have these characters naked, also make sure passives aren't in play. I'm at work otherwise I would check something, maybe light armor pieces give a % of a point? Maybe scaling with rarity? Get naked, see if it goes down.

Yeah i have made sure the toons in question didn't have any Spell Damage enchants, the only thing a couple of them had was the PvP buff which added 4 points to the VR6 NB and DK, other then that them are the base Spell Damage stats. I really would like to figure this out, at first i thought it might have been hidden racial bonus' and it still very well could be to an extent, I am still looking into this.
