All I know is if your server requires hours of "maint" or a reboot twice a week you did something very wrong.

If you glance at the thread titles, you'll see that there are a few things to fix, and that's probably the reason for the delay.

I agree with this post, maintenance on Tuesday for the patch took all day pretty much, meaning maintenance today should of been 1 either delayed til next Tuesday or 2 short. It's just common sense really

There is no Windows XP Server OS. I realize this is a joke but maybe it would have been better to say "It takes time to get there MS WIndows 2003 Servers going."

All I know is at the bank I work at, it is normal for clusters of servers to take hours and sometimes multiple days for maintenance and patching/fixes. This ain't some tiny single windows 2003 server they are running you know.

You do that twice a week? If so how are you still employed?

It is true that after the 8hour+ downtime Monday (I didn't see it come back up because by then it was 11:30pm for me), I wasn't expecting it to be down still by this hour. The usual time is about 2 hours. They must be implementing some small fixes or something, but it would be nice if they told us.

While today would normally be a scheduled maintenance, in this case the last patch is getting patched. There are some hotfixes going in to today's maintenance. Extended downtime really isn't unexpected.

Name another company that has to reboot and do maint on servers twice a week? Or even another game if it is specific to the gaming industry?

It varies based on the specific cluster being worked on. The real point here is Maint taking place twice a week, especially when content or major changes always takes place on Tuesday, the first maint of the week, is pretty normal. You have no concept of how their server farm is built or runs or what it entails to patch it, or hell, even reboot it. Big fat databases can sometimes take an hour or two just by themselves to be completely rebooted.

I would normally if the maintenance today does not include a patch to Tuesday's update. If there are new fixes today, it certainly makes me wonder (even more) about the stability and quality of the game code.

There are no new posts on the Updates/Patches forums so this lengthy maintenance is worrisome to say the least.

Patches don't come out twice a week and the biggest database in the world doens't need to be rebooted twice a week.

Also major changes don't always take place on Tuesday that was a last minute decision when the patch wasn't ready for Monday. They should have just waited till it was really ready.

I'm still failing to understand why maintenance is being done in the middle of the day at all. I mean, is there any real reason the US server can't have its maintenance overnight?

Could you edit your post its horrid.

Most MMO's dont send out patches every couple weeks that are larger then the game.

Because night is primetime for most people. Most people work during the day.

That is interesting and kind of funny actually. I had no idea a game could survive in this day and age with daily downtime. How long is it down for each day?

They do it based on when the servers are the least populated.

Blizzard did not have biweekly maintenance for almost a decade.
