All I know is at the bank I work at, it is normal for clusters of servers to take hours and sometimes multiple days for maintenance and patching/fixes. This ain't some tiny single windows 2003 server they are running you know.

You do that twice a week? If so how are you still employed?

Name another company that has to reboot and do maint on servers twice a week? Or even another game if it is specific to the gaming industry?

It varies based on the specific cluster being worked on. The real point here is Maint taking place twice a week, especially when content or major changes always takes place on Tuesday, the first maint of the week, is pretty normal. You have no concept of how their server farm is built or runs or what it entails to patch it, or hell, even reboot it. Big fat databases can sometimes take an hour or two just by themselves to be completely rebooted.

Clearly Blizzard was doing it wrong for almost a decade.DocStockman wrote: »I'm still failing to understand why maintenance is being done in the middle of the day at all. I mean, is there any real reason the US server can't have its maintenance overnight?
Because night is primetime for most people. Most people work during the day.
