Hi there

Was wondering if the Mods or Devs can comment on this ?

If you Check my logs I just started a research on a lighting staff total time over

25 days

YES TWENTY FIVE DAYS? this is either a bug or over the top 12 days is to much on most things but too see a staff take this long or ANY item is surely not fair/logical/rational,

Perhaps they will sell research boosters in the "Cash Shop?"

I'm doing a 7th trait on a healing staff an I think the time is 37 days. I might take the 3rd perk in the skill to knock it down if I can come up with an extra skill point and have no other pressing need for it.

We know it's intended, but we still wish it was halved... I just don't see how I'll be able to craft myself some armor set before christmas..
I'm now at 5-6 traits on light armor pieces, 1-2 traits on medium pieces, 5-6 traits on heavy armor pieces, 0-3 traits on bs weapons, 6-7 traits on ww weapons..

I'd love to make a medium armor alt, but I just can't make her any reasonable armor.. unless I'll just use the 2-trait set..

Research time doubles with each trait. The eighth one always takes 32 days (can be reduced with Metallurgy/Stitching/Carpentry). It is intended and to me feels just about right - takes some time and effort, but it's perfectly doable and many people already have 8 traits on several items.

Glad the OP looking into crafting as he went along. Didn't see any pattern emerging then??

And had to make the typical post with the "devs please respond" request that any of a hundred thousand people could have answered in-game.

Yep, I mean a search of the forum would of brought up the subject as well. But as we know most prefer to start a new one than add to an old.

Sadly that's not really the point, it just means people will hold out on researching armor traits they feel they won't need. To me its an obviously huge intended time sink that will make you wait while you continue you fork out money to play. If this was game was F2play, I would agree it does feel right. But it's obviously a time wall to prevent progress. 32 days is excessive and will obviously be changed in the future with a hard cap on traits only lasting a maximum of 7 days.

25 days is with research 3/3 if you didn't spend those 3 points, the last trait is 32 days.

Mastering all the traits should take time, its not the days that's a problem but only allowed 3 items at a time when blacksmith and clothier have 14 items while woodworking has 6.

These sort of things should take time to get, if you had everything from day one what would you do? Also means those that do invest the time/effort to do it will be rewarded by being able to craft something that's worth some gold.

If you post in a 2 day old thread, you are a Thread Necro, and if you create a new one, you are just making another of the same.

You just can't make some people happy.

Admittedly it can be a danged if you do and danged if you don't sort of thing.

However a two day old thread isn't a Necro post, a month old post definitely is. The issue with month old+ Necro posts is that some of the content in the original thread may no longer be relevant, if subsequent patches altered the conditions the thread was commenting on.

My 2¢ worth is that the research times are fine the way they are. It should take the time of a committed player to hit the top crafting abilities.

I agree with time it take to research an item fully, makes it carry some value. Having the ability to craft 8/8 items should not be an easy task, and in all honesty, should probably require a bit more player investment to achieve.

I currently have bow at 8/8, dagger at 8/8, all staff at 7/8, light armor at 5/8, medium armor at 6/8-7/8 traits, and Heavy armor at 5/8-7/8 traits.

Since each is double the time of the last, when they add trait 9 and 10..... Then it will be nuts (64 days/128 days) (with the 20% skill would be 51 days/102 days)

I think that the research times are quite unfair, considering -

I know a few people that have already completed every trait in the whole crafting cycle < - > OP?

I disagree with people saying 'research boosts' + 'Please nerf, it's too long'

I don't understand how it's too long. The 8th traited sets are better than the rest because they're something to look forward too in the game.

Everyone wants to have the best armor, and the best looking armor and including the best equipt overall - Yet, there's limits on how this is implemented.

    Overall, I disagree.

    But its not F2P.

32 days is hardly excessive, go and look at other MMO's and see the amount of time taken to do some elements of research.

I can't see them reducing the time either and to say they will obviously do such a thing shows a lack of understanding on how the developers work. they may add additional passives that allow the research time to be reduced again but I doubt they will reduce the overall research time.

Just a comment to point out that this is actually impossible. There's no way anyone could have an entire craft complete by now. It's simple math:

    8 Traits: 6H + 12H + 1D + 2D + 4D + 8D + 16D + 32D = 63.75 Days

Even if the person magically got the craft high enough to be able to put 3 points into the "reduced time / 3 at once" skill on their first day, that's only a 20% reduction in time and 2/3rds reduction in total time. 63.75 x 0.80 / 3 = 17 days. Per piece.

To fully complete Blacksmithing or Clothcraft, which each have 14 pieces to research, that would be (17 x 14) 238 days.

Even if this person is referring to Woodworking, with only 6 pieces total, that's still (17 x 6) 102 days.

The game was released on April 4th of this year, or March 30th if you had early access. March 30th was only 87 days ago.

So as I said, impossible. No one has a full grid yet.

Unfortunately Diviniusb14, it is possible due to an early crafting bug where you could start the research and then interrupt it some how (I forget the details), and the research would be magically completed.

Interesting. Well then I'll revise my claim to be that "it is impossible without utilizing a since-patched exploit," which still renders his argument invalid, even if his statement is not.

Thanks for the info though, as I hadn't heard of that. :)

A lot of MMO's have 'time gates' on crafting the better items. I recall WoW having a CD on making special cloths etc and in LOTRO they had CD's of up to a week on making the some of the better items. In ESO the time gate is research, once the research is complete, there is no time gate, you can make as many items as your materials stock permits. Its just one way of adding value to the top tier crafted sets (although most of these sets are below par when compared to looted sets IMO). If your in a hurry you can research different traits on alts to speed things up or just swap for the equipment slot you require with another crafter.

I don't think I'd enjoy crafting much if everything was made super easy to achieve.
