I'm wondering how this is not an out and out slap in the face given that bows can't shoot this far, especially with the reduction of the range of snipe?

a minority opinion. You must have never played VR content. Trash mobs are already close enough to players. They don't need additional buffs. I don't think the op realized that this is adding to the current passive, not replacing.
That's the problems with coders. They are usually horrible with making things short, understandable, and getting to the point.
