Actually, now I think on it, I would prefer all social clothes to be in the costume/disguise slot because sometimes I don't like the look of the armor but still want the protection. Of course that would make the need for an inventory slot that did not count as inventory even more important since clothes need to be carried with you.

But that's EXACTLY what the costume slot already does. Putting on a costume in the game right now makes your character look a certain way BUT you retain all the stats of the armor you are actually wearing. So, by doing social clothes as costumes, if you want to wear a silk bikini but have your full plate stats, hey you can! LOL
As someone pointed out earlier, to be able to Mask your affliction would mean either very new or very powerful, perhaps then, as you progress in your vampire skill, the changes become more drastic... a Level 1 Vampire at Stage 1 would look almost normal, stage 4 would be very pale, a Level 10 vampire at stage 1 would look normal, but at stage 4 would be hideous...
...
Also, right now when you feed you don't go from stage 4 down to stage 1 in one setting. You have to feed once per stage you want to tick down (unless they changed that since I last fed, I kinda gave up on it since my appearance doesn't change anyways). That said, I like your idea much, much better. Having time spent feeding increase as your hunger does, and having feeding do damage, would be awesome!

By the same token, Feeding at stage 4 should be fatal for the victim, the vampire is "Starving", at each stage the outcome could be less severe, taking about 25% of the victims Health per stage... this could also be applied to willing (Players) Victims, but should always apply to the unwilling... Stage 4 in PvP would be a way to kill an opponent, but leave you exposed to their buddies and very vulnerable to fire. Lower stages would also weaken the opponent, but not kill them (unless they were already weakened)...
Another side effect in PvP could be the Victim could have a choice, based on the % of health lost to the bite, to become a vampire (go through the ritual) or Get Cured, and this should not count against the 1 willing bite a week we get at stage 6...
Making the bite interrupt-able (Bitus interruptus?) could allow a victim's friend to stop the attack (not the victim) thus save their friend prior to the end, if the animation takes 4 seconds, at stage 4 that would be 25% of the victim's health per second, personally, I would make the animation 2 seconds per level, stage 2 to stage 1 is a quick top off the tank splash and dash thing, stage 4 is a full, almost out of control feeding frenzy... and while the victim is hurt by the interrupted bite, the vampire must complete the feeding (or kill the victim) to get the benefit... to interrupt the bite would also require a substantial hit to or the death of the vampire...
I can see Cyrodiil now, overrun by slavering mobs of hideous out of control vampires...
All of this would be pretty cool but it would require them redoing the entire vampire class, which I don't really see happening. What I'm asking for is a pretty small cosmetic add-on with the possibility down the road that stage 4 vampirism may have consequences when they implement a justice system. Probably a lot more do-able.

You are correct in that it takes 3 feedings to go from stage 4 to stage 1, I did not mean to imply that it should change or not change, just the ferocity of the feeding and the damage caused...
While I would not be unhappy to see the time in each stage lengthened, that would be another point that folks would agree or disagree about.
On the RP issue, as the Vampire's hunger grows, it should become more obvious that something is wrong, and if that means you have to nip out every so often to grab a quick snack to hide the affliction, work it in to your role

I don't RP in just one guild however, and one of my guilds murders undead. They are ok with OOC vampirism however the insane change in appearance is trying on even the best RPers.
I think the idea is more than just a struggle with characters however. I don't think I know anyone that needs to eat every thirty minutes to live. On an RP note that makes vampirism impossible to hide from your fellows, and you miss a ton of content because you are constantly leaving. Again, this is worse for dark skinned races.

But to the subject, there shouldn't be a way to completely hide the affliction. Yes, there are NPCs that appear to in game...and we don't know exactly how, illusion maybe. This become a non-cosmetic issue in PvP since knowing you are a Vampire means an enemy should rely on fire and Guild powers as a weapon against you.
The idea of crafted fashion either using the disguise or armor slots is a fairly interesting/good idea especially for RP. And to some degree this may be kind of covered by the dyeing/color changes proposed. You do have to consider the level of complexity transmitting individual appearance data in MMOs; the more detail and intricacies per character is more data that has to be transmitted/maintained. I'd think there are higher priorities for development.
The only changes I would suggest/support is in regard to stage progression. I agree that stage one appearance should be slight with each following stage being significant in jumps: redish eyes, then paler skin and blood red eyes, then white skin and glowing red eyes, with final stages being very alien and ugly veins eyes and skin all just way off the norm. Likewise the advancement of stages should be longer...much longer, like 1/2 day or more.

MornaBaine wrote: »While overall I agree this would, again, mean having them basically redo the entire vampire class and, again, I just don't see that happening. A cosmetic alteration, however, is pretty minor stuff and CAN be implemented with a fair amount of ease. As for being recognizable as a vamp in Cyrodil... I'm not sure they should be. It would become apparent as soon as they used a vamp ability and doesn't really need to be obvious any sooner than that.

No thanks. i enjoy RP but cant remember seeing Bram Stoker anywhere in the title of the game. and vampires are undead creeps, they should be hunted down not dressed up.
