Not me. It would be the worst thing happening to this game.

On the good side, the rumor I have always heard is that Zen has said FTP is not an option.

I hope so, but thats what all the developers of games going f2p said once.

I don't understand. You already "cancelled your account," so why are you now saying that you'd stop playing if the game went free-to-play? Did you decide to resub?

On the good side, the rumor I have always heard is that Zen has said FTP is not an option.

It was said, and it was said long before launch. Pretty much the gist of it was that they will maintain the servers under a P2P model until it is no longer viable, at which point they will shut down.
Basic circle of complaints on ESO Forums:
    1) Users: Fix game/class/bug
    2) Zenimax Online: Brings servers down and fixes issues and deploys patches.
    3) Users: OMG SERVERS ARE DOWN!!!!!
    4) Zenimax Online: Brings servers back up!

Going F2P isn't for OUR benefit.

Keep in mind, that going F2P isn't to keep the existing players happy so much as it's to bring a different crowd of people in at the risk of tossing the original players under the bus.

On the good side, the rumor I have always heard is that Zen has said FTP is not an option.

I've seen that rumor floating around, but I'm not inclined to believe it. The same rumor was floating around for FFXIV:ARR (in response to the flood of F2P threads over there, as they invade all MMO forums) and eventually the director came out and debunked it several months after release. Was a quote that people took out of context.

The closest thing I've seen is them saying the sub model fit the style/their vision of ESO much better when talking about player experience, and that was their reason for going with the sub model. At least that's the only stuff I see coming up on searches I do.

If anyone wants to link me to where it was said, I'd be happy to give it a read/listen :) I will continue to play the game until it becomes unfun, but historically speaking, a F2P MMO is never really my main squeeze.

No, I didnt resub but I really hope to continue playing. I cancelled (my account finishes 7 august) but it is because the game as it is now, is not ok for me (nor the vast majority). That does not mean I wont return. If the game goes well.

In fact, it would be better to shut down than going f2p.

No, I will not play F2P games... Even if they did a hybrid model like SWTOR (technically F2P but severely limited if you don't do atleast some micro transactions with all perks unlocked with a sub) I would likely quit.

Bottom line is, when corps / business get a taste of easy money (*cough* micro transactions *cough*) they start over focusing on fluff content. Updates will start including more and more "hooks" to get people to spend money, and before you know it, meaningful updates/expansions/and bug fixes become secondary.

However, critically, the player base will also go to hell in a hand basket. You get broke ass kids and drone of chinese and russian hacks clogging up the game and driving out the core community members of adults and enthusiasts.

Everybody losses except for the shareholders or, in the case of ZoS, the empty suits.

I've played sub games, I've played f2p, and honestly, both have their gains and losses. A p2p game, most everyone is equal (bot sellers not withstanding) whereas, a f2p game, if you bust your ass, more than likely you'll break ahead of the pack. In p2p as well, there's a cash filter. Not everyone that can't afford the additional $15 a month is necessarily a jerk, ***, d-bag.... insert other rude insult here... and on the flipside, not every person that CAN afford the sub is a nice person... so... take from that what you will.

I probably would, but depending on how greedy they are would depend on whether or not I would stay.

I've quit every game that went ftp. Nothing but children and people that pay to advance their characters and have no clue how to play their class. If they go ftp, I'll dump this like I have everything else.

    Yes, I would

But I think having a subscription for this game is better. You subscribe and you get access to everything, new content, patches, etc... without being locked out of anything. This is why I'm against the Pre-order and Imperial Edition bonuses.

I answered no, but in all honesty it's more of a "most probably no". It would depend on the changes.

All f2p games like to tout their in-game real cash shops as vanity things, but in reality the game basically becomes pay-to-win. I seriously doubt a vanity-only model would support the cost of running the game. I suspect gold improvement mats would only be obtainable through the cash shop. This I would not put up with.

Another issue is bots and farmers running the game economy. Without the barrier of subscription, they'd have free rein to do as they please. We'd see rampant inflation, coupled with gold sellers conveniently offering their services to fix your gold woes. This is another thing that would kill the game for me.

A pay-to-play model for MMOs is clearly more transparent and ensures accountability from the devs, unlike f2p where they can dismiss complaints with a simple "well, it's free, ain't it?"

Id play either way, I would prefer it to be closer to a mindark model to be honest though... (Project Entropia)
