Should the Original Poster of a thread reserve the right to remove unwanted replies?

Also, OP, I am going to chime in and mention here that my right to disagree with you and make it crystal clear that I disagree with you absolutely trumps your feels regarding how your thread is managed.

Dont say something in public and then expect the public to kowtow to your will. Youre not the boss of me, in other words.

Knowledge AND proper usage of kowtow in a sentence = Awesome.

Not only no but hell no. This is an open forum, not a personal blog. Heat, kitchens and all that.

This is awesome. I was reading the OP with my SO standing over my shoulder. He said, 'No this is a forum not a blog'. I scroll down and you're the first responder. Great minds think alike?

Removing comments distorts the thread and if you can't take a bit of cyber-mockery, your best bet is not to post at all.

Run your own forum if you want to be able to delete posts.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

This is exactly what I am talking about: You telling me off and telling me to move to another country because I asked a question ...

and what constructive criticism does this post have to do with the current question?

    Real mature response ...

    Censorship is for noobs

This would be abuse of the power and is not the intended question:
"Oh look, this *** disagrees with me and is trying to prove me wrong. Let me just delete that post."

Disagreement is always welcome, as long as it kept its relevance to the topic.

And how did I become the boss of you by asking a question? Your response seems very angered that I asked the question in the first place considering this is the second time you have posted on the subject.

Dont say something in public and then expect the public to kowtow to your will. Youre not the boss of me, in other words.

and now the topic is completely gone out the door. There is zero relevance to the original question in this next post:
Your Poll is not going in the direction you wanted? (again?)

You see your carefully crafted spin doctoring taken apart by reasonable, irrefutable arguments? (repeatedly?)

No-one is agreeing with you, and all you get is a lot of LOLs worth the next badge? (you've earned that star the hard way, for sure!)

Fear not, for the next poll is here! If this goes well, you can be your own forum moderator soon! No more disagreeing with your precious, opinionated opinion! Just censor the views that can't be valid, because they're not your own!

(Sorry, but I'm under the impression that this poll was posted under the OP's secondary account. Why else would a Soul Shriven ask for a feature like this?)

I asked a question. Some of you responded in a civil manner while others completely side tracked or attacked the question.

It is not about censoring the thoughts of others at all, but rather to remove the unwanted immature responses (unwanted) and the irrelevant hijacking of threads. It was not my intention of asking for a tool to remove the constructive criticism or thoughts that are relevant to the current question in the thread.

So many times I read through the forums to see irrelevant responses to peoples questions that it makes it impossible to find any RELEVANT information. I guess what I should have asked for in this poll was a "Find Green Name Response in Post" search feature because in a lot of threads I read that is the only one that matters anyway.

Thanks everyone for your input, some of you proved why it may be needed and others pointed out how and why it's power would be abused.

Speculation and irrelevant to the topic. How is this helpful?

While you, individually, might not use such an ability to delete dissent (not that anyone with a functioning brain believes that), others will. Guaranteed. And to such an extent that the ability would be revoked within a day.

I have seen it implemented on other forums. It always turns out badly.

That would be a resounding HELL NO!

There is an old American mantra that I believe in. It goes like this:

"I may disagree with what you are saying, but I will fight by your side to defend your right to say it!"

Forum goers should have the right to collectively remove useless threads from the forum via some sort of "flag" button. ;)

thats like a business being able to remove bad reviews. if you create a thread, you have to deal with whatever poop comes your way, that's the deal.

*edit* wait... I just contradicted myself there....
