Why so much hate? ... Seriously

When you start messing with a beloved franchise it's fans tend to get pissed. Instead of trying to make a multiplayer TES game that still is distinctly TES they just mashed superficial TES elements and standard MMO tropes togher, copied the style of the quests from the single player games, sprinkled some PvP over it, called it a game and hoped people would like it.
It's made by people who don't really get TES or what people like about the series so it only really appeals to some MMO fans and TES fans who play the single player games in a simillar or even the same way, but they're only a fragment of a large group.

It's not bad, some stuff like the skill system and crafting is great but it just tries to please too many people and ends up beeing a pretty mediocre experience for alot of people.
TESO had some huge shoes to fill and it just dosen't cut it, i wouldn't be surprised if the game had done better if it was completely unrelated to TES.

The VR thing dosen't help either. Let's face it, it's a last second addition beacuse they realized 1-50 was far too short, threw together the VR system to stretch the game but didn't have time to test it. So now leveling is all over the place, some are leveling too slow not beeing able to keep up with the content and some beeing far above it and the difficulty curve going from regular to VR isn't exactly smooth.
Now the game is also far too long so you have people who otherwise loved the 1-50 stuff getting discouraged and bored,
They invested alot of time in the game, had fun and are now pissed that the game they loved acouple of days ago has turned into a giant snoozefest.

I was stoked for VR levels before i got there, worst part for me is that they're not even that much more difficult in an interesting way, they're just more unforgiving so they just end up limiting the ammount of builds avalible to you.
I play a sorc with destro staff and i find the VR6+ levels just as easy as the 1-50content simply beacuse the build is so good, if the enemies were more relentless with specials or use more tactics, rolled out of CC etc rather than just got an increase to hp and damage that would be alot more fun. For me anyway.

you hit the nail right on the head with your comment, you are definately correct,

if eso had not used the name elderscrolls online and instead just was another mmo it would have been a HUGE success, but since they added the name elderscrolls it basicly threw itself into oblivion on many many different issues.

My hypothesis is that every single MMO has a group of haters. No matter what stage. However, soon after launch there are always the most issues and kinks to work out, so we see an increase in negative posts.

I don't mind the constructive ones. Those are necessary for development (however, duplicate posts on the same topic annoy me to no end). It's the "This games sucks. I want my money back" or "You just lost my subscription, ESO" threads that serve absolutely zero purpose. I wish mods would delete every single one of these asinine posts. They do nothing but breed disconnect and disharmony in our community.

And all of these "Why are servers still down. They should be zero downtime ever. I'm quitting" threads also are crap. I've played MMOs for about 15 years. These never, ever, ever go away. Even when maintenance is routine. I'm sorry ... but get a life. Seriously. Even if (and it never is) maintenance lasted a full 24 hours -- go do something! Watch some movies, read a book, learn a language, take a walk, volunteer somewhere. I'm not sure these posters are aware of just how pathetic they look.

    /rant over.

In regard to "why are the servers still down" you can also look at the positive side. These players love the game, want to play now (need their fix for the day) and maintenance is hindering this.

Is it just me or has the hate level gone down some on the forums in the past week or so? Could it be the ones that couldn't find anything good about the game have moved on? I find it refreshing.

I could buy that if the thread said "I love ESO so much and miss it dearly! I can't wait until it is back and running!"

I've yet to encounter such a thread.

    It's implied.

How can you imply how much such players "love" the game when they spew vitriol when it's down?

I'm not saying all players do this. I'm saying I'm annoyed with the people who approach it in this very specific way.

Because their vitriol is about the server being down for maintenance & not the game itself.

Keep in mind 6 out of 10 posters are under the age of 21....This implies more than half of the posters have zero real world experience, particularly what it takes to build, launch, market, and maintain something of this size. Think about it, if you are in your late 20s and older and have any sense in how things work in real life, you will quickly change your perspective and realize while much can be done to improve this product, ESO in its current state is an amazing achievement. Boo hoo to balacing and all of the crybabies whining about end game content. Come face me in Cyrodiil. I'm practically a raid boss :disagree:

much of the hate comes from people living in first world countries, with first world problems, and a dead end life... so they have a few drinks and trash mmos on forums. I live in Canada, and a good majority of the people that live here bit** about how bad this country is to live in. I think those people are absolute idiots who have it good and don't know it.

Gamers in general pour on way more hate than is warranted... usually. in mmo forums, it is ten fold.

And unfortunately, as I have myself encountered, if you say such things you are in trouble and called a "fanboi." You can't win on MMO forums. You are either a troll or a fanboi. The reality of this sucks.

I can see your point there. With age, I guess I've just grown more cynical and less patient. I think this game is amazing. A lot of time and effort went into it. A lot of time goes into maintaining it. All we see is a few hours of inconvenient downtime, and we whine about it. While on the other side, people are working their butts off to better the game, only to receive a overwhelming negative reception.

If you look at any post about downtime and why aren't the servers up, you will see that I defend ZOS.

While I do understand they just want to play the game, I think most of the posters need to chillax and go outside and see the Sun, or take bath for pete's sake. :)
