Would like to build a tank with either a Templar or Mage build. Any suggestions for both?

Right now I'm using a Bosmer NB and she's entirely built for DPS. While I love the toon her survivability is HORRIBLE and can't take on a mini boss type enemy or a mob of more than 3 if even that sometimes. I would like to build a tank type character that can still dish out some decent DPS but not huge numbers, just one that can put up a fight and survive longer than my NB. I figured a Templar would be the obvious choice but I've really wanted to build a Mage type toon that can wield some decent spells along with a decent weapon but can still take some hits. I know typically that any other game I've played a mage/sorcerer type is usually a high damage dealer but has horrible armor and low survivability. That's what I enjoy about ESO is that you can break from that norm and still have a mage that wears heavy armor and wields a 2H battle axe if you want!

It's really that bad? I was researching after I posted this and I saw a few pages that had some ideas and a few that are saying the same thing you are. I get the whole game is going to be hard thing and I'm fine with that but I've got to try and find away to help my toons survive. some attacks, even from basic enemies or ones that are 4-5 levels lower are SO overpowered it's insane, like take 3/4 of my life insane in one hit! So say if I run a mage as my new toon, should I stick to the whole light armor deal or is there a way to be able to still run with Med/Hvy armor and a weapon other than a staff and still make it worthwhile?

You can push your NB to be a tank as well. Some skill changes and added traits to your current gear type to increase your armor to soft cap levels. Maybe increase spell resistance as well.

    Tank with a Sorcerer.
    DPS with a Sorcerer.
    Heal with a Sorcerer.

But, by all means, play the way you want to play!

a Templar carrying duel wield, wearing mixed light & medium armor is SO MUCH fun!
also morph your skills with heals to personal for better survivability, you still have to play with tactics & with less run in screaming & cleaving of heads

I suggest either picking > Templar > Dragonknight (Both can be Tank+Mage)
I currently have a Dragonknight veteran, it's both Destro staff + Sword and Board > Because of the dragonknight debuff soon, I gave up on it, and went back to my v12 Sorcerer + Nightblade.

You see, Nightblade's are getting a buff soon, and when I leveled my nightblade to v1, I used (Sword and board, secondary Bow)

Now I use Restro staff + Bow, because I only player her in PvP

Nightblade have amazing dodge chance, and with the sword and board spells, they can tanky very well + the shadow cloak, when you taunt a mob/boss, if you go invisible, they will literally just stand there like they're the dull of the party.

Tank? go with temp, fabulous self heals, a tank needs skills to root the mob, dps is not important.

Chuckles. Ya tell me about it, dps is not there in my templar. Be aware though if you put in the self heals, you will be lacking all the tanking things in your 5 slots, which IMO are horrible compared to the DK. Really most of my good CC is off bow....
