I liken complaints like this to taking your car to a mechanic to get it fixed. The mechanic calls you and tells you that they're waiting on a part, and your car won't be ready until tomorrow. Then the next day he calls and says that he is working on your car, but it won't be ready for a few hours. Then you complain that if the car wasn't ready yesterday, how could it possibly be ready today?

No it is like calling your mechanic and saying I think I need an oil change soon. Your mechanic demands you bring it in right then, then says I'm waiting on a delivery of oil so your car will be in the shop for a day. Then you ask why did I have to bring it in right now then?

That may be the single worst analogy I've ever read anywhere.

The patch was supposed to be applied yesterday. They realized it wasn't ready yet. So they delayed it and put it up today. It happens to be taking longer than expected. As things tend to do when computers are involved. No analogies needed. No hyperbolic threads declaring that this is a sign of the end times needed. Just a simple delay.

So being the absolute worst analogy in the history of humanity .. why did the patch need to be pushed today? They never announced it was supposed to be pushed yesterday until today. We were never given a time to expect the patch other than hopefully this weak. What would have been so terrible about pushing it on Thursday and actually testing it for a couple days after the thought they had it fixed?

I see your frustration, but you have to understand that they've already "tested" this patch on the PTS server. Some things just never go as plan and there could have been plenty of factors into why they had to push the time back. Granted that I don't know what could have pushed it back 4 HOURS, I'm just bite my tongue and do housework until its up.

If you are not 100% sure about a major content patch 24 hours before pushing it live you can wait a couple days and test it. It isn't like they have been telling us for weeks to expect it on a certain day. You already have a scheduled day on Thursday what is the rush to push out a patch that wasn't even ready 24 hours ago?

Are you a game developer? Do you manage megaservers? Are you a network engineer?

Im going to guess no, so im also going to guess you don't have an idea how the internals work so why are you wasting time posting other than being mad.

As explained earlier, deploying a patch is a different process than testing a build. You can test a build forever, but that doesn't mean that it will deploy without a hitch.

They wanted to get the patch out yesterday. They couldn't, so they pushed it to today. Unless they declared today a holiday of some kind, I fail to see why this is such a big deal.

Ok granted deploying and testing are differnet, but with virtual servers it is extremely easy to test deployment as well. Regardless why did it need to be pushed today? What was this extreme urgency that couldn't wait till the scheduled day?

They have something else planned for Thursday?

    Who. Bloody. Well. Cares?

This is a deployment issue. It would not have been fixed by waiting until Thursday, because there's no way to predict deployment issues (yes, even with virtual servers). You don't know there's an issue until it actually happens. So the only real difference is that we could all have had 2 more days without this thread.

Maybe they wanted to save the scheduled day to just do pre-weekend maintenance or even to have that time available to push any hotfixes that may be needed from this patch?

They aren't PUSHING this patch ahead of time. They actually delayed it until it was ready. I don't get why people are trying to say that some of these balance changes shouldn't be put into the game right now while allowing for a shorter maintenance on Thursday instead of the other way around.

The truth is that it was just a terrible PR move to publically announce that the patch wasn't ready to go and then push it so soon after.

Atleast they announced it wasn't ready. I give ZoS props for being honest up front for once.

Well, I have to agree with all the comments. If it's not ready, don't push it. But then you're forgetting something else here to complain about. As with all patches, there will be a patch to fix the patch that fixed the original patch. AND since it wasn't really ready and was pushed....there will be a patch to fix the patch that fixed the patch of the original patch. So, chin up to all you complainers out there. More complaining fun is on the horizon!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Alright so then you of ALLL people even with some network knowledge should have some sort of sympathy knowing of possible issues that could arise from a major content update. For all we know some hardware went bad, someone spilled there coffee on the router, Bill forgot to bring the passwords from home and he lives 45 minutes one way and had to go back and get them in heavy traffic due to a 4 car pile up on the expressway. Maybe someone overslept, or quit.

Its all irrelevant. It is what it is and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Show some sympathy for your fellow network admins or what not and go play Simcity 4, its on sale today.

If they actually had decided to push this to Thursday's scheduled maintenance time, there would have been equal furor over having to wait an extra day for the content patch.

That is excalty my point. If I knew that 24 hours before I was supposed to release a major update that was giving me issues I would not release it unless there was a crucial bug that had to be hotfixed. For an optional update I would make sure it was well tested then pushed to a test enviornment then to live.

In today's day and age the routers are not going to be in the office to spill coffee on, nor the cable to the server to trip over etc that is just not how it works anymore. Servers are in datacenters and you are not in them when you work on them. The hardware is all failover and clustered. The days of a network closet with a bunch of servers and cables are long gone.

Yes because Blizzard, Trion, CCP and every other company does what you just said. You literally cannot test everything to be 100%, it's impossible.

If you're saying you can't test something to be 100% bugfree (have to assume) then you are incorrect. It's not impossible. It's just extremely improbable and impractical. In the case of games like this it's not even attempted. And many known bugs are ignored.

In any case that has nothing to do with rushing a content patch out on a non-scheduled day. Why do it? It makes no sense. Sure it doesn't kill us to have the game down but, clearly, it annoys many people. Why do that when you don't have to? Do it on the Thursday: less annoyed paying customers.

Yet another dumb business decision and, whilst I'm extremely hopeful that I'll be proven wrong, I'm guessing we'll see some more dumb dev decisions with a hatful of horrendous bugs to add to all the other bugs once this goes live.

I like this game, a lot, but there are some obviously stupid things Zeni does for no apparent reason. Fanboys can't pay all the bills. They ought to keep that in mind.

The amount of qq when it happens on a weekday. Lets say they push it on Thursday, major bug fix on friday to saturday. Your weekend is gone and trust me, the amount of qq I quit threads will be twice the numbers. If they push it today they have wednesday and thursday to fix. Weekend saved. What you expect zos to do? If you expect a perfect flawless patch on such a huge game, then the community shld stop qqing things like the following:
    1) omg wabba so lag I gonna slit my wrist now
    2) templar so useless I cannot get into trials
    3) nb so underpowered i cannot 1 shot peeps
    4) omg I press weapon swap and no response I got owned
    5) so many issues as above my guild, family, friends, relatives and my pet dogs quit
    6) etc

I would advise you guys to suck it up, let them do their thing and enjoy your game after. At least they fixing what they had been pressured to do so far.

ZOS wouldnt win. If they dont put the patch out this week they get crap that they lied about new content...if they push it out and there are major issues, then they didnt test it right. No matter what they know they are going to get crap for either decision so I have a feeling they just dont care. Better to just get the content out there now and fix it later cause no matter what they lose.
