How should I spec equipment when considering soft/hard-caps and POTs ??

Should I boost stats on my equipment to reach softcap and then fight with POTs overcharging all my stats?

Or should I use POTs to "reach" the softcaps that my best equipment can't reach?

I'm still not sure how much is lost with overcharging, if my equipment is already at caps.

its not lost when overcharging it gains more to the stat say I have 1700 stamina and eat something that boost stamina for 238 then it gives me 1938 stamina I have a hard time also with this I only think you can go over on stamina health and magika im not sure

Once you hit the softcap, 50% of stats past that cap are lost.

Say you are at the softcap of 1800, and add 200 stat points to it while overcharged. You will only receive 100 points due to the stat being overcharged, for a total of 1900 (instead of 2000).

Most people generally stop when they hit the softcap, so as not to waste stat points beyond that, but there are still some cases where it may be beneficial to keep going.

Personally, when trying to plan for stat allocations, I use an addon that shows me what the softcaps are for each stat at my level, and how close I am to reaching them (or how far over them I've gotten, and how many stat points I'm losing due to overcharging).

The addon that I use is Softcapinfo, by Shinni.

Thanks, I use SoftcapInfo as well so I know the softcap.

Note this is with an already max Health stat allocation, so I'm not asking about Stat point allocation, only equipment selection and boosters after that.

Does that mean that everyone tries to PVE exactly at cap?

If I want to run a potion constantly to "reach" softcap, I can use a lot less boosters or enchants on the same level of equipment.

But I thought the race was on for the best stat equipment first, then add boosters, which a good Blue Potion is always going to overcharge.

I base the final number I want on eating food, because the buff is so long term. So eat the food then try on armor/adjust points etc.

What are the hard caps if any in this game?

Do you have a source for this. I always thought it was a linear diminishing returns. The more you put in the higher the penalty so going a little way into the soft cap makes sense but too far is not efficient use of points.
