How long before we can download the new update? Would Like to download while we wait for the server to go back online, so that we can hop right in when it is live again. Any guess how long that might be? Thanks

"A few hours" usually means around 5 or so.

Thanks @Slash8915‌ and if that is true, it should be done by 1 PM EST (It started at 8 AM EST)

ZOS hasn't said yet, but the big updates usually take longer than the small ones.

I don't mean to be ...well snotty but...as a functioning business shouldn't this down time be done off peak hours? Like starting at 3 A.M. ? I work in IT and I would be fired if I did a change at 8 in the morning that made everything unavailable for 4 or more hours...don't get me wrong I am glad they are patching and fixing but...I am sleeping at 3 A.M....patch it then ;P

I say 5 hours, but since this is a content patch... it could definitely be longer. That's assuming you don't have any login bugs after they finish. Like with Craglorn.

The thing is, it would be 3am in which time zone? 3am in the Eastern Time Zone is 11pm in the Pacific, and I know a heck of a lot of people who are on then. In addition, people play the NA server all over the world, so there are going to be large numbers of people on 24/7. Then you have the fact that so many people in the US work 8-5, M-F, which is spread across four different time zones as it is. Just a thought to put it into perspective.

I agree, I am not permitted by upper management to schedule any system changes during hours of operation - I know this is different for 24/7 MMO's, but an 8am EST start is bad, to make it worse they now botched something and estimate 4 more hours minimum - I would be ripped a new one at my job for such acts, strange, maybe Zeni is hiring, I want in on some of this rogue ***.

They usually take from 8am-1pm eastern coast time, but they've proven to take longer, and shorter.
It really depends on the size, but this is a huge update so I think it'll take longer than usual, probably their max time limit.

This is not a business critical application. It doesn't require 99.9% uptime. It's a game. Maintenance and patches are done at off-peak hours based on the playtime of the majority of people on the server. Being a North American server, the majority of the players are at work or school during normal business hours of 8am-5pm.

In the U.S. EST is the "standard" regardless of the location for most events that span this side of the ocean. Light night T.V. shows on "prime time" are prime time EST, sporting events on prime time is prime time EST, etc, etc. If it is not local it is based on EST. Middle of the night EST should be the standard for bringing down the server. You don't have to like it but that is how it should work. Also if you are not in NA and play on the server, oh well - that is the price you pay.

I beg to differ - it is there WHOLE business. People pay 15 a month to play the game...having it unavailable for now a projected 8 hours is pretty bad. Would you be happy if your cable or internet were down for 8 hours?

I'd be fine if it took 20 hours if that meant a working game when we came back. I feel like they are trying to make it as smooth as possible after the Craglorn fiasco.

I beg to differ. I would be happy if the internet goes down for 8 hours and gets better after. We paid for this, let them do their pay's worth.

We're not only paying for game time, we are paying for content as well, mind you.

well if you want to compare it to a utility - suppose you moved into a new house and had to pay 100 dollars to get your electric hooked up. Day 1 you turn on the lights and only half the house has power. They say they will fix it but you will be without power for a few hours. No problem if it fixes the issue. Then the after the first fix you turn on the lights and the blender blows up, and you only have power on the right side of the house. This goes on and on but still you pay your power bill every month. Three months later...they are still trying to fix your electric.

It is different to say "oh I would be happy if my internet was better when they were done.." That is not a correct analogy. Would you be happy if after several tries, and a large amount of down time, your internet worked like it was supposed to when you first paid for it?

I pay to play the game, I happen to play during the daytime. Had they done it off hours the down time would be minimal to most people. Now they are down 8 a.m. to possibly 5 p.m.

I think they accomplish that task best by putting more prep time in BEFORE the patch, rather than dragging the patch out DURING the patch.

I mean, whats the sense of a 20 hour patch? That means the rushed code into the patch that should have been better tested, and found out it was wrong while implementing it, when they should have found out before hand when they could have painlessly fixed it.
