Light armor and staff is mandatory for veteran ??

lim30041982
So i'm a dragon knight tank vet 4 , from early until vet 4 i always use heavy armor and/or medium armor combo with 1H+S and 2H/Bow.

And i never got problem to play PVE content (dont like PVP) , but now in vet 4 its look like almost imposible to do PVE quest because the mob hit very hard and my toon literally dont do any damage.

i always play solo (except when doing dungeon) , i remember in a fight got owned by crabs ...... yes a litte crabs in beach (5 or 6 of them) because i accidentally hit them with my tallon.

i can survive very long because im a tank but i cannot do any damage because my magicka and stamina got depleted. After i died i got rage and buy destruction staff+light armour invest 4-5 five skill points in my staff skill (which now i regret) and go back to that beach.

And i kill that imbecile and make the crabs soup for my dinner , so in a fight i almost died but i manage to kill them all because the aoe skill and damage (basically they died first before me)

So what i want to ask is the lightarmor and staff is mandatory for progressing in Vet 4-12 ?? because it just got harder and harder to progress (doing PVE) compared to levelling in lv.1- vet 3.

Thx in advance

    Simply put, No!

Your play style and skill rotations will have to adapt to veteran overpowered mobs. You can't use the same skills and style you used leveling from 1-50.

For what it's worth, my vet4 NB with 7/7 medium armor and two daggers can solo in vet zones without any big problems. When i die its because i screwed up(didn't block a power attack, too slow to roll out of red circles, stuff like that)

    My main's a VR7 DK tank. I alternate between heavy & medium armour + 1H&S and 2H.

I nearly always solo except for dungeons. Finished Cadwell's Silver (DC) with no real issues & am currently working my way through Auridon. (so far so good but haven't gotten too far in yet, so have yet to see.)

As has been said, it's just a matter of adapting your skills to the situation and taking advantage of the enemy's weaknesses. I'm finding I'm dying less in the VR zones than I was in the 1-50 levels when faced with most mobs and most bosses I can take out first or second time. (although some have taken a day or two before I figured out how best to tackle them).

and remember, 'Block' is your friend. ;)

Yes Light Armor is Must have. Atleast in VET Dungeons and Trials. Staves are not however.
It would sound hilarious in other game, but here in ESO you have to wear Light Armor for MORE surviveability !
The reason is that most of mobs and bosses in Vet Dungeons and Trials do magic damage. Light Armor passives provide best spell resist buff therefore improving your surviveability ALOT.
Full medium have about 300 points or armor more then Light. So if you care about armor you could only care about Light vs Heavy armor difference.

Staves are not that much needed imho. Destro stuff spells depends on weapon damage and they actualy do lower damage then any other weapon.
The only valid staff if Resto staff because the one and only good passive of those - 10% bonus to all damage.

P.S. There is no skills or Armor sets which could let you have as much Crit chance with weapon skills as you might have with spells. For example, i have over 60% of crit w/o spell crit potions by wearing full light armor + 2 crafted sets which give 5% spell crit each + Inner Light (20% spell crit).

I'm not calling for nerf of light armor or anything. I personaly think it is just fine. But medium and heavy armor should realy be more in line. Contecnt should also be redesigned to be not for "Mages only".

Just wanted to remind that there is NO DECENT medium crafted or droped sets what so ever.

I use the same system and skills as in pre vet.
Vet content is harder yes, but nothing that can't be done...

I was using sword and shield and heavy until I leveled it to 50, then I leveled medium and bow and it is still playable. Now I will be leveling destro staff, so I wonder how huge difference it will be :-)

    Yes, for now.
    No, in the long term.

Currently Mana skills (class, guild and staff) are more viable then stamina skills. The only interesting Stam skill might be Board&Shield and you get a ranged taunt from undaunted.

Also at veteran level your caps do not increase anymore (stay at Level 50). So you are be able to reach hardcap with class buffs and light armor, while having superior mana reg and spell resistance.

This is not as the game was intended however, so they are balancing away from that:
For the time being they balance class skills and nerf some staff skills.
Once that is done (and they have a common level to compare too) they propably balance mana/stam balance and PvE difficulty.

I can't speak for vet dungeons and trials, but for working your way through the quests in veteran zones I wouldn't say that light armour and staff is mandatory.

I am a melee dps sorcerer using Critical Surge and Bound Armaments as class skills and my remaining three slots are filled with 2handed abilities. Self-heal on crit, plus a damage shield that scales with the size of the pack you are fighting, I don't have any major problems with veteran quests.

Most of the time though I am questing with a bow, but only have two skills on that hotbar i use and three spare slots I swap in/out other skills to level them as I quest.

It probably depends on how you played 1-50 and your willingness to adapt with veteran content. Pre-veteran zones don't feel like they prepare you for fights in the vet zones.

Hmm, you are aware that there is a thread about armor balance, started bu Zenimax, asking for our feedback before they make the changes?

Those who pick skills only cause right now they rock over others, may find themselves in a respec position when the balancing coming.

    Though, everyone plays their way.

Zenimax have proven that they do NOT get dictated by any group, but they try to get as much feedback from as many sources as possible, before they do their changes.

I think the player who is more willing or naturally adapt, will find this enjoyable.
The player who wants a specific calculated build and no changes when they have it.....will more then likely be disepointed.

Also, with all the content constantly added, new skills coming, redoing builds or even creating a new character is going to be a more common thing.

I am 1 main player only. ESO is the first game that made me want to try another char. Why? Because they add content/changes/quest/whatever, across the board. 1-50 and Vet.

This makes ESO a valid reply game, instead of a static newbie, leveling area that doesn't change.

Just personal opinion, but I couldn't agree with this less. ESO is the first MMO that I have played in which I am completely put off creating alts for anything other than crafting and storage.

If you weren't forced to play the other two factions' zones on your way to veteran rank 12, then I may have been tempted to roll a couple of alts to experience the stories there. As it stands though, with every character you will end up experiencing all the content from all three factions so it is a bit redundant.

Furthermore, the thought of having to take more than one character through the veteran content fills me with dread. ESO have been so frugal with awarding experience in veteran zones that you have to leave no stone unturned if you want to stay on level with the zones you are questing in. Every quest, world boss, dolmen, etc, or risk falling short of XP before venturing into the next veteran zone.

Couple that with the ball-ache of being met with a wall of silence when trying to put together groups for these things (even at peak times), I feel in no way inclined to repeat the process with an alt.

I have instead tried to use quest XP wisely by levelling up all weapon, class and armour trees so that I can respec and change my playstyle if I ever feel I am getting bored with my one and only character. Then of course you have the issue of prohibitvely expensive costs for respeccing attributes and skillpoints, but thats a different kettle of fish...

    @Sethyss

I do agree that there should be some sort of quests to venture into enemy land. But that would require a rewrite of the game plan and even mechanics.
I have no suggestion how it could work with ESO. But it would make sense and also give Vets a real content to do. How to do it and solve it.....hmm.

I have submitted a feedback, suggesting some sort of LONG, difficult, expensive way to betray your alliance and join another. Mostly to play with your friends. This might open a pandoras box though. Next thing race change and Zenimax said: no way

Um, mr Vet 12, you do realize that after tomorrows patch and the 1-2 fixes to fix the problems any big patch creates, YOU have a HUGE new dungeon, with an own storyline, that will expand. Add to that, they warn that its for V12 experienced players. This is just one of many additions for high end game thats coming. You do not need to travel to other alliances to level up. Theres other ways, and even more coming. Also there are Quests made for Graglorn thats single player, added to the party quests.

I for one will spend some time in Cyro for vet exp, since the group lag bug supposed to get fixed in 1.2. And with larger armies clashing again.....woooo.
How many times have the doubled the exp you get in cyro? Twice?
I am not there for the exp anyway, but catapult walls! And sneakly take a farm!

And what about the system for Vets having some sort of special skills to choose? Dont know about you, but I feel 24 hours day game isnt enough time to do all I wanna do.

I do understand your view on alts. I never been an alt person. I dont even use alts for bank space like most do.
Why I stated this, was because of all the add/changes/remap/new thing that spans across lvl 1-50 and vet, makes ESO an MMO where even I can actually enjoy a new char.

In the next coming weeks and 1-2 months from now when we argue about balance between the 2 new guilds and spell craft system. Even more interesting to make a new character. Both for MMO players and very much for role players.

I feel I have to add something. These features where not hidden before launch.
It was clearly stated about how the game works, what features it has, and how to explore the world. Its not like we got Vet 1 and oh.......

Read the info on the back of the product you buy. ;-) (Not directed at you)

I have to give you a BIG credit for even saying you trying to put together a group. This I think would solve a lot of peoples interests in the game. "We" got to used to click a tool, and wait for an automatic group.....How about making your own group, find friends that way, maybe even a good guild?

I am 100% with you, that I simply refuse to do the same boring content over again, just to experience something different. Already, if I made a new char today, I would have a different experience doing the same zones again as I did at launch. More to do! More to find! Phasing would better! Skills/classes are polished better.

Anyone noticed where the hek the gold farmers went? Few still around, but their rare buggers. And its not like the 1-50 zones are empty.....
I may state I am on EU server. US server I dont know.

My point is, that the MMO game model, ESO has chosen, where they apply new things every 6 weeks or so. Even game changing such as skills, quests, added zones, extended content and all they have in their plan......makes this an never ending game really. And when I get around to it, doing my second char....sure, the zone will look the same, better graphics, more people around.....but also different dungeons, more quests/items etc.

Its not static. Which makes is very interesting for a long term player.

Even with all these changes, I have a bad feeling I wount find time to get around to making a second char, because when fishing is made into something actual useful, Ill prob spend more time doing that and hunting skyshards... (I do not use a single addon)

    Sorry for a long post.

Indeed, ZOS' friends at Entropy Rising seem to have got everything they probably were asking for, the trivially small minority yet again get a release for them while the overwhelming vast majority get no new content they can remotely hope to see.

I appreciate the assumption, but I am not veteran rank 12, so I won't be getting a new dungeon to play with this patch. But then again, I never made the complaint that there was nothing to do at veteran rank 12 so I don't see how it is relevant.

My point was that once you've taken one character to vr12, unless you have leveled purely through PVP then chances are that you have experienced all of the content available for all three factions.

It might be a big enough pull for you, but playing through that same content just because they may have fixed some phasing issues on quests or added a chain for a new guild (which I can no doubt complete on my main) is not enough incentive to make me play a new character.

I've dabbled with different classes, and they might well be fun to play as a main. But not when that requires me to have near enough the exact same PVE experience again for however many weeks, or to spend 61 levels engaging in PvP on an uneven playing field.

Again, I actually agree with you. Booooring to do the same thing again!
You have my full support here!

What I am trying to say, is that when I went through newbie areas and zones from launch. if I made a new char today, I would have a bit different experience.

And, there is content for 1-50 (and vet), in the plans. More quests, remake of dungeons, all the balancing of skills. They even TALKED, not confirmed, to add more to aIl to dungeons.

And if I wait even more.....there will be so much new content, that even if the Ebon zones looks the same, its a different experience.

Most my playtime, I ran around like a headless chicken, having a quest I followed, but I have a pathetic attentionspan, and seam to see skyshards everywhere! I think I pretty much turned over every stone, tree, house, whatever in most zones. I do not have any addons and enjoyed my ride very much. Exploring for me was THE fun thing after finding wierd quests everywhere. Oh and finding a skyshard! Christmas every time!

Main quest line, Mage guild line and fighter guild quest line was outstanding! But did take me quite a bit!

So, by the time people been max level for a month and maybe quit, I was still fighting around in coldharbour. I think I was lucky enough to progress at the rate they fixed things :-p

Also, before that patch that made Cyro into Lagcyro, I spent quite a bit of time there. Catapulting stuff, and even pulled off a few smaller group missions to take a farm, so the main force could take the keep!!!!

I got lots of pvp points and I HATE 1-1 pvp. I SUCK at it. But even at lvl 30....I was useful! I will go back there, if I can group up and not lag.

Right now, I have a lot to choose from. A month ago, I wouldnt, 2 months ago, NO. In 1 month from now, even more.

See where I am going? just cause I took it slow.....I didnt get bored, and didnt have most bugs people got.

I am struggling if I am gonna make a new char, to make it in a another alliance. to experience that. It would be great I think. But I am Ebon! I am no traitor!

But my weapon still using 2H and 1H+S , the difference is now i'm actually must using my health potion. When i still leveling to vet 4 and using heavy+medium armor i'm almost "never" used the potion (dont need to).

Mandatory, probably not, but it felt like that on my NB a few weeks ago when I was losing more money from repair costs than I could accumulate. But in my experience it makes life so much easier. The damage mitigation from armour just doesn't help that much, a big supply of magicka to keep enemies CCd is a lot easier than trying to perform perfectly timed blocks and rolls while still getting damage in. That's not to say everything becomes a stroll in the park, but you get more access to survivability skills.

    It's not mandatory.
I leveled as medium armor to veteran rank 7 and leveled the rest as heavy armor user with sword and board till rank 12.

People who claim that it's absolute mandatory need to check up what that word means.

Is light armor + staves the better combination? Yes.
Do you need to use light armor + staves to reach veteran rank 12 and complete trials? No.
