Does weapon damage/quality add anything to weapons skills?

When I started play EOS I though that I'd invest time into smithing to enable me to have quality weapons. I soon found out that increasing smithing was quite a tedious process and my skills never kept up with the level/quality of weaponry that I found in loot.

I can see that there are number forges where multiple traits (8 in Cold Harbour I think) can be added but because melee is so underpowered I almost always use weapon skills (dual wield) in combat. Weapons skill have set damage values and I was wonder whether it make the slightest bit of difference whether I'm hitting the MOB with a top quality legendary weapon or a stick.

If the quality of a weapon doesn't modify weapon skills, smithing seems rather less attractive (especially when I'm wearing medium armour).

Higher weapon damage does impact weapon skills damage or most physical damage skills, but doesn't scale as well as spells which hopefully is being worked on by the next patch
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

Im not sure I understand you right, so correct me if I miss your point.

The weapon skills you refer to are all based on the weapon you use or rather the damage number on it among other things. If you switch from a 50 damage weapon to a 100 damage weapon you should see a difference.
If the weapon and the stick you compare are the same level then they probably have the same damage on them and the numbers wont change.

Melee is hand to hand combat. Close quarter fighting. Hitting stuff on the head.
The opposite style is ranged combat. A ranged ability can be used from a short distance, it is still a ranged ability.

In closing, if you chose to upgrade your weapon it will always be a benefit do the damage you do.
If you fight in medium armor, with a weapon other then staff you benefit greatly from a higher quality weapon. That said, sticks are very good these days...
Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

Just test it for yourself. Equip a weapon of your own level, check ability damage on tooltips. Make yourself a level 1 iron weapon, equip, check numbers.

My point is that I use skills almost exclusively over mouse click melee attacks. For example, the dual wield skill blood craze states that it does 2x 70 physical damage plus 290 bleed damage over a given amount of time; my currently equipped weapons do 93 points of damage each (per mouse click attack) + enchantments; are those 93 points of damage and enchanted damage added to or modify the blood craze (or any other weapon skill) damage, or do I just do the stated skills damage irrespective of weapons in hand?
