Maintenance for the week of May 18:
· [COMPLETE] NA megaservers for maintenance – May 18, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC)
· [COMPLETE] EU megaservers for maintenance – May 18, 8:00 UTC (4:00AM EDT) - 13:00 UTC (9:00AM EDT)

constant 7 second+ freezes and lag spikes are to much to take....

Polyscikosis
I like the game. But after trying EVERYTHING that was said from other players and getting no improvements I just do not have the willpower to log in with these CONTINUOUS freezes happening. This is not a "good bye" thread... this is a "I cant play this game until they optimize/FIX code."

I have axxed zone chat (that didnt help.)
I made sure to exit out of the launcher while the game is running (that NOMINALLY helped)
I have turned down settings I shouldnt have to turn down (and it STILL DIDNT HELP)

I will keep my eye out for future patch notes.... Until then, peace out guys.

No! I really think that it's them.

The freeze's and lag are killing my game also. Every other mmo I have, run's like liquid butter.

I am on the EU server.

Have you tried turning it off and back on?

Nah, jus' kiddin'. Seriously though, are you running any addons? I know there are some out there that might mess things up a bit every now and then. Tried repairing the game data, deleting the cache, etc?

By the way, which other MMO's are you running just fine, and what sort of rig are you playing on?

The "freezes" are most likely caused by the adding/removing of players in the group.

Fortunately ZOS are aware of the issue, and they will hopefully be implementing a patch for it early next week(Jessica hinted at something to that effect in another thread).

I agree, the freezing/hitching is most annoying, but hopefully resolved soon.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Well right now the EU server means your really connecting to the US, for now. So if its just a LAG issue then there aint much to be done about it except wait for them to finish building out the EU rack space and move the EU server into it.

However freezes sounds like your computer, because when you lag out the gameplay keeps on moving, just things like using commands to open a door or your bank wont work, and enemies might teleport around, etc. If the entire game is freezing up then its most likely something local.

The freeze's are quite erratic, and can happen at any time. The key and mouse lag once in combat is common place, and can usually end up in the death of your character.

My computer is quite powerful, and my internet connection is cable.

I think it's down to poor game optimization and server issues.

I used to get like a 5 second freeze quite often. Now i close the launcher screen every time i play and the freezes have disappeared.

I agree with the above posts - sounds like it's probably something on the client end rather than the server / network. If it was network or server, you'd see a bit of rubberbanding of monsters, and delays when you trigger spells in combat, but you'd still be able to move yourself. A client freeze means that everything stops for a moment. Make sure that nothing else is running, and maybe even increase the priority of the eso.exe process.

I think the EU/NA stuff is irrelevant ... I'm from the EU playing on the NA server, no obvious network lag.

The freezes are indeed the client. From what I have seen, it has nothing to do with groups, effects or anything. It just... happens. In fact, it happens more often than not when I am simply riding alone.

Basicly, the game is somehow managing to hardlock the computer for a short period of time. Its not only ESO, its everything. You will notice it if you for example play music in the background or watch Youtube on another screen, everything locks up a few seconds after ESO froze and then resumes when ESO resumes.

Have to say, ESO is the only game I am aware of that can do this. ZOS should feel honored that they managed to bork the code in a unique way.

Like many others I am having this problem as well.

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/109348/split-second-lag-frame-stutter#latest

If you're willing to DL a 60GB program to check your PC, drop down to the last comment in the thread. This is how I left off with customer service on the issue. Personally I don't have the room on my main SSD & don't care to add that size of a program on my storage drive.

Add-ons do contribute somewhat to the problem but I've tried disabling all add-ons & still get at least a frame stutter from:

    - entering/exiting new areas, especially those with phased questing
    - NPC dialogue
    - open/close the map (intermittently)
    - open/close bag (intermittently)
    - entering/exiting a city
    - quick mouse turns

Usually the frame stutter is accompanied by an FPS drop in the 30-40 range.

    I use no addons.
I run a pretty new gaming laptop (quad core, radeon HD7660G, 4 gigs SDRAM)

I run Battlefield 4, wow, D3, SWtor, and others with ZERO issues. (with graphics MAXXED)

I havent grouped up so the freezes are not caused by that.

and no... the issues are not on MY side.... not when (before I turned zone chat off) half the zone talks about it right after a big freeze...

and what about the freezes that are NOT caused by grouping?

Since myself, my sister, and my nephew haven't seen those freezes, (but my dad complains about them constantly, on a different computer halfway across the country *while grouped with us*) It seems pretty obvious it's *some* sort of client side issue. Theoretically we're all seeing/experiencing more or less the same things.

Now, if a lot of people are seeing those freezes all at the same time, (I must admit, I haven't ever caught a peep of it in zone chat, but then, presumably when you're affected you pay more attention when things recover) that just presumably means it's a client side issue that's triggered by something server side.

And fwiw, IIRC my dad is still running windows XP (32 bit) on an old computer he constantly complains about even playing SWTOR (though there mainly just how long the loads take). The rest of us I believe are on more modern rigs. (I know I'm running windows 7 64 bit)

If I really had to take a stab in the dark, I'd say it's not enough ram on your graphics card, so it has to be swapping textures into/out of vram too often, and the game locks for a bit when it does. From what I can tell, the texture quality in this game is *much* higher than WoW, D3, SWTOR, with more/different textures loaded at the same time. (Can't say I'm particularly familiar with BF4)

(Incidentally, after some brief research, the radeon HD7660G is an onboard graphics chip, which typically means it's pretty bad. My understanding is BF4 is pretty intensive, I'm surprised it's runnable at max with an onboard graphics chip. Sure that isn't hyperbole? Quick google benchmark says it runs 27-11fps on low settings on that chip... around 13 to 6fps on high....)
