its just something i randomly wondered.. all of these visual style based on a Specific Race, and one of the most common racial styles in the elder scrolls game is absent.

So where is the Dwarven styles? its long established in lore that there is found armors and scholars who have studied the remains of the dwemer equipment to maintain their ages old styles into the modern day, going close a thousand years after this game.

i find this strange.... but then they havent even added the Theves Guild or the Dark Brotherhood....
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

I don't expect all elements to be available from the start. I imagine there will be a motif added here and there with expansions later on.

    We will see though

There's not even a lot of dwarven ruins to explore. I bet in the future they'll add some dwarven content, and with that dwarven style gear.

Well the crafting system is completely different now.

Ebony is still a material not a style. But now Daedric is a "style" that can be heavy, medium, or light.

I can't imagine dwarven being anything but heavy or glass not being light (medium for ESO). I bet they will add it anyway though as a style.

its true that Dwarven was always just a type of heavy armor, but in ESO where the motifs are based on individual races, its not much of a stretch to be able to craft in a style held by the dwarves...

after all we have ancient elf.

i also hope they add a "glass" motif, because i loved the look of glass armors in the previous games, and because green is my favorite color^^

I'm curious I know not a lot is known about Dwarven lore, but are they dwarfs like (LOTR, Forgottenrealms, dragonlance, etc) or are they totally different race wise? Just was wondering.....

Dwarven, or Dwermer, is a race of Mer (Along with Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer and Orsimer) who has great cities, mostly underground, and were has the most advance "technology". They were very powerful as a race, but they suddenly disappeared entirely, sometimes in the past, leaving their engineered cities and constructs behind.

The reason why is unknown, although if you played Morrowind there was quest which gave you some insight about what happened.

So yeah there is some similarity with other licences' depiction of dwarves. They're aren't as small, and were great engineer, metalworkers, scholars, architects and mathematicians instead of your classic drunken axe weilder warrior.

But they do have beards and live underground :D

I bet it'll be introduced when they release blackreach as a playable zone/dungeon/whatever

The typical high fantasy dwarf does not exist as a race in TES afaik. I recall I read somewhere that dwemer means as much as Little Elves in a giant language but I'm not sure if it was some ingame book in one older TES game or some unofficial forum story.

Would make sense that the ingame modern commoner would think that they are small or dwarfes being eneducated about the fact that that the name giving comes from a species to which even the tallest nord is a small one.

the Dwemer or Deep Elves, where a race of Highly advanced Mer who build large scale underground city states in the early mythic and first eras. their scientific achievements include the creation of a type of metal that no other race has been able to smelt, Steam and magic powered automatons used for both war and domestic achievements, large scale dimensional experiments, Weather control devices, and much much more.

their society was similar to the alyieds, in that they were known to keep slaves in addition to their automated creations, but apart from their interactions with their own clans often limited contact with the other races.

It is however well know that they took place in various wars with the surface world, the last of which ended with the disappearance of their ENTIRE RACE in a instant save a few who were not on nirn at the time. this even is believed to have been caused by the dwemer themselves, a feat that is not to be ignore as it shows their abilites far surpassed what the other races have ever been capable of in magic and technology.

the fact that many of their structures and creations still work to the 4th era, is a true testimate to their ability to build, and their knowlege of mundane and trans-mundane arts.

I am reciting this from memory, which is kind of sad but also i cannot guarrentee to be accurate 100%. i suggest you search them on the wiki site.

i can say that they were not really short, in fact they were about average in terms of height. The ghost of one can be met in a Morrowwind expansion, and a living one (tho horribly obese due to a illness) shows that they were far from "dwarves" as the typical Fantasy depection would be.

tho every Dwemer i have ever seen depicted has a beard, so they do at least seem to conform to that bit...

You can just call Dwemer the steampunk elves. I don't think they were visually any different from altmer, except for refusing aldmeri pantheon of gods, believing themselves to be ones for their mastery of magic and technology.

So basically altmer with an even more bloated ego..

Personally think they look more like Dark Elves rocking heavy beards.

They are official known as Dwemer and were nicknamed Dwarves by men.

These men happened to be Nords.. who are tall as "#$% and could probably refer to any of the other races (except High elves) as dwarves. So take that with a grain of salt.

Meric races use the term "Dwemer", which translates to "Deep-Elves" or "Deep Folk". Men commonly refer to them as Dwarves.

    Elder Scrolls Wiki
Mer used the term "Dwemer", whose meaning was roughly translated to "people of the deep". The term also connoted to "deep-delving," "profound," and "close-counseled". However, they were commonly referred as "Dwarves" by Men.

Can you share some references on that? These were all I could dig up.

Its a bit foggy to me too, but thats Bethesda lore for you. Its completely wonky at times.

Hell none of these names existed until Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

In Arena and Daggerfall it was just Dark Elf, High Elf etc. All of this -Mer business came after Daggerfall.

I agree with you guys they should really add the armor styles of the previous games (dwarven for sure but also glass and even dunmer armors of ES III Morrowind).

As others have said completely different, Dwemer are not short, they are normal sized. They were a race of Elfs, who loved magic and technology (like D&D Gnomes)..

Isn't Dwemer a material rather than a style??(in this game only), I'm pretty sure I've read threads about Dwemer ore.

I've heard (source unknown) that there was a Dwarf motif in beta but it was pulled. I remember seeing people in zone chat in early access asking where it was.
