So what is wrong? They forgot to take into account for cost reduction. If you're going to nerf something at least do it right instead of this kind of sloppy work. Do you really think people are going to just ignore this kind of stuff ?

It's not that they forgot to take cost reduction into account, it's that the +50% is applied at the same time as the cost reduction.

How much flat spell cost reduction do you have? It looks like about -47 Magicka costs from your jewelry?

Then Expert Mage 10%, Breton 3%, Unholy Knowledge 5%?

You wear 5 pieces of Light Armour with 3/3 Evocation for another 15%?

    Unholy Knowledge 2/2 : 5%
    Evocation 3/3 : 21%
    Expert Mage 2/2 : 10%
    Magicka Mastery 3/3 : 3%
    Seducer : 5/5 : 3%
    Accessories : -46

Normal cost is 201 Magicka. After using Bolt Escape it costs 373.

I'm starting to think they might have missed one of the cost reductions but which one of them is it?

Ok so base cost is 392.

    -46 flat SCR, 5%+21%+10%+3%+3%=42% SCR

Your first time casting it costs:

    (392 - 46) * (1 - 0.42) = 346 * 0.58 = 201

    second time casting is:

    (392 - 46) * (1 - 0.42 + 0,50) = 346 * 1.08 = 374 (must be some kind of rounding issue)

In ESO all % modifiers to the same thing are added together and applied at once.

It's kind of like if you look at your Crystal Fragments:

    Normal cast costs

    (420 - 46) * (1 - 0.32) = 374 * 0.68 = 254

But an instant cast proc with 50% cost reduction will cost:

    (420 - 46) * (1 - 0.32 - 0.5) = 374 * 0.18 = 67

I just checked the flat reduction cost and there seems to be mitigation on it as well. In actuality my Accessory items only reduces magicka cost by 27. Is this something new they've added? I don't recall there being diminishing returns on flat magicka reduction.

It's not DR, it's just a function of the order they apply bonuses. In ESO they always apply flat additions/subtractions first followed by % increases/decreases.

Without your accessories your Bolt Escape would cost:

    392 * 0.58 = 227

    With them it costs

    (392 - 46) * 0.58 = 346 *0.58 = 201

Don't you think It's kinda misleading the way they do it tho? If reductions were added before the cost increase the spell would be a tiny bit cheaper. It's frustrating because everything in this game costs so much, and the very tight hard cap to regeneration stats is not helping.

Eh, it would work out better for the player but I don't think it's misleading. It's consistent with how they handle static modifiers and % modifiers elsewhere in the game also (and in some cases it works in our benefit).

For example, if you wear +Weapon Damage rings the benefit of the +Weapon Damage is added before % modifiers like the the +10% Weapon Damage from momentum is.

Or if you have +Magicka enchantments on your gear they are added before the +12% Max Magicka for being Breton is calculated.

The passive cost reduction does not apply to the 50% increased cost.
