Talons is on rapid-fire and sucks all my magicka

When I press my skillbar hotkey for my DK skill "Choking Talons" (morph for Dark Talons) it casts it over and over on rapid-fire instead of waiting for me to release the key. It casts it so fast that I only SEE one cast, but it sucks up my entire magicka bar. I had to FRAPs this to finally figure out what was happening.

You can see what's happening if you have the addon "Foundry Tactical Combat" installed since it shows target information. If I press and hold my hotkey for Talons you can see it re-starting the cast over and over as fast as possible. (Note, if you don't have an actual target in range it won't consume any magicka, but does show some animation when you release the hotkey.)

I've tried moving Talons to different slots on my skillbar, and I've tried re-mapping it other keys, and to the left button as well. I've also tried it with all addons disabled. In all cases it exhibits the same behavior.

I asked in guild chat if any other DKs had this problem, but didn't get much response. One guy said he didn't, while another said he did only in PvP, and figured it was just due to lag.

Is anybody else having this problem?

As it is, I can't use Talons at all, because I can't afford having it eat up all my magicka every time I cast it. My build is very dependent on this skill for group activity, so I basically I can't group at all until it's resolved.

I wasnt able to reproduce this with Burning Talons.

Afaik skills trigger on key release (bad choice imho) rather than key press. Could you try and realocate them in another slot to see if it might be a kb problem.

I've been playing with this some more, and in combat with actual targets it doesn't actually cast it repeatedly while I hold it, but only when I release the key. But no matter how quickly I tap the button, as soon as it's released it will suck up my magicka for two casts.

It won't use up magicka for three casts, just two. If I only have enough magicka for one cast it will still cast it, but as long as I have more than enough magicka for two or more casts it will use up magicka for two casts.

I keep playing around with this, trying different things, but no matter what it consumes magicka for two casts, unless I only have enough for one cast then it only takes the one. No other skill I tested does this, just Talons.

This only started with the 1.1.2 update, and I haven't installed or modified anything else on my computer since then. I'm at a loss here. If anybody else can confirm having this problem it would provide insight as to whether it's just me or not.

I get this issue as well. Tooltip says it should cost me 288 magicka but it's costing 500+ (wasn't aware it was being multicast). I've asked people with Burning Talons to test and it appears theirs is working fine. I did a /bug report yesterday and haven't heard back yet.

Worked fine prior to 1.1.2 patch.

I examined some FRAPs videos I made more closely, and I noticed something. In one of them I can see for just 1 frame that it takes the normal magicka cost, and then in the very next frame takes it again, so it's taking the cost twice, not once for double the amount. Also, according the combat log addon I have, it's only being cast once, not twice.

@ausmisc - Is yours "Choking Talons" or "Burning Talons"? Maybe this is only happening to "Choking Talons" (which is what I use).

Choking Talons for me. I believe it's only affecting this morph. It's hard to find anyone in zonechat who has it/will test it/can talk.

I'm having the same issue as well. I haven't used fraps to determine what is happening but, I can say for certain that it is costing me approximately 1000 magika to cast. So, I believe the issue stems with the coding for this morph only since every other DK I've talked to has no issue with their burning talons. The only fix I know of at this point in time is to simply respec into burning because it will probably be a while until it is fixed.

Is this getting fixed? This isn't just an inconvenience, it makes the skill unusable because it kills all your magicka. So either give me a free skill respec so I can switch to the other morph, or better yet fix what used used to work just fine until you broke it in the patch.

I glad this isn't just happening to me. I've bugged choking talons twice now. And like above, I didn't have this problem until 1.1.2. The skill is completely unless until this is fixed. I'm going from 1100+ magicka to just over 300 from using this one skill.

Ya go knock off a demerit point or whatever. Lord knows there's no other way to get your attention.

You know why so many people don't play this game anymore? No, of course not. It's because simple issues like this are dumped to the bottom of the "fix later" pile and don't get fixed for weeks or months.

What's that? Just spend 15k+ and respec to the other morph, or invest more skill points in a different AoE CC skill and change the play-style you know and love? Nope, just stop playing.

How strongly "simple" issues affect the game, and instead spend all your time pandering to the masses who don't actually "play" the game but just focus on max level

Anyway, patch 1.1.4 was just released, and surprise, surprise; still no fix. Maybe if I care enough I'll log in again next week and see if anybody at ESO woke up yet. And hey, that'll be a whole month I haven't been able to play! Thanks ESO for taking my $14.99 and giving me a game I haven't been able to do group play with for a month.

I'm using Burning Talons so I haven't seen this bug.. but I'm constantly annoyed by the buggy changes they've done in 1.1.2 and didn't revert..
- reducing range to 6m is just stupid, VR is hard enough on pyjama wearing guys even without getting hit by 3 mobs in a melee
- Talons now have about 33%+ chance of not rooting random targets.. they just drag the talon with them (especially archers who run 15m away unhindered, with talon on them, ffs)
- with so many conditionals in place, the delay between using talons and actually rooting enemies can reach 2 full seconds. That wouldn't be a problem, right, you could technically use it a bit sooner than you run into mobs? FALSE, because it only counts targets withing 6m THE MOMENT YOU RELEASE THE BUTTON, so, if you use it sooner, noone gets rooted, if you use it in time, mobs have time to comfortably surround you and lock you in place (thanks guys for forcing mob collision!)

Overall, Volcanic rune seems better and better as an alternative $:\$ .. Bow has Bombard covering half the battlefield, Sorc has Encase which roots 2x larger area, but talons are DK stuff, and DK is seen as "op"... well why don't you just take away it's synergy and give us back old, functional talons?

This thread title is misleading. I originally misunderstood exactly what was happening and thought it was rapid-firing. I only have enough magicka for two casts and it would suck it all up. After further testing using Max Magicka food I determined it would always take the cost twice, never three or more times.

To re-clarify: You can cast "Choking Talons" if you only have the required magicka for one cast. However, if you have enough magicka for another cast, the game will take that magicka right after taking the initial magicka cost. The skill will have cast once, but the game will take the magicka cost twice. (In a FRAPs video I could see it taking the cost once, then taking it again in the very next video frame.) Typically this happens so fast that to the player it just appears as if the game takes twice the magicka all at once.

Needless to say it makes the skill unusable. It's a very expensive spell to cast as it is, and players simply can't afford to have that cost taken twice. Coupled with the nerf it got to help balance PvP (killing it even more for PvE as well), it's frustrated players such as myself to just not even play anymore.

Just popping in for a reminding rant. You guys know this skill is UNUSABLE right?! I realize a vital group CC skill for DK was worth your attention when you nerfed it, and that you broke it while nerfing it doesn't matter to you guys, but believe it or not it matters to the players using it. Err, NOT using it since they can't afford the mana to use it!

Damn... Is this why each time I activate this ability I have no more magicka left for the others spell ? Need to do some tests.

Interesting indeed. Both of my DK's (tank and caster) use Burning Talons. But I've been considering doing a respec and swapping over to Choking Talons. If this is true, there is no way I'm spending a ton of gold for something broken.

Are there any vids of this? I'd like to see them if possible...

Hey losers, I got a 12-year-old nephew that can fix this for you. It's obviously too difficult for the group of monkeys you hired to make this game.

I'm tired of being ignored by you guys except to edit my posts when I swear at you for being so incompetent. And if you expect courtesy I tried that. Politeness doesn't get anything fixed, so you got to expect people to get angry and curse and swear at you after being ignored for so long.

I don't even know what to do anymore. All I can say is this: You better not wonder why so many people quit this game so quickly. So much broken stuff, and you break two more things for everything that you fix, and then you never fix the stuff you break. I just have no words to describe the sheer level of incompetence by you guys.....
