Possible to disable effects?

I seem to get a horrible drop in FPS whenever there is this kind of "fog" in the game. For example in the grotto dungeon at the first boss, just before you go over the water. The FPS drops so much the game feels sluggish.
Is it possible to remove these types of effects somehow in settings?
