Dps vs surviving

epictrollheals513
Doing more damage vs being able to survive. Seems stupid don't it, but i think that was one of my problems while lvling to 50. I did not need to worry about that since i could just do more damage before it became an issue. Now that I'm V1 I am starting to see just how much you need crowd control, stuns, and just over all more protection. To be honest I know that a mob of three with most of the time kill me right now, sad I know. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I have a few thoughts. How about ZOS balances the Veteran content around the majority of players, rather than the feedback of the power-leveling PTS testers whom know only the best cookie-cutter builds.

That said, to answer your specific question.

It seems to me that where I could normally just endure and soak up enemy hits with self-heals and steady DPS... just no longer works. So I'd recommend you focus on damage dealing now, because no matter what you do, those inexperienced no-life bandits and military infantry peasants are more threatening than the mere 1 level lower elite Dremora units from Coldharbour.

Fast single target DPS works decently since if they are dead they can't DPS you either :D . If you want to go slow AOE dps than it is normal that you should have a lot of survivability first . The truth is that lvl1-50 difficulty in TESO is apprentice in Skyrim and VR sometimes approaches Master(rarely) so you can have stupid builds like running light armor no life NB spamming pulsars melting everything up to and including Molag Bal(that is what I used.). Once you hit VR maybe try to be more realistic.

True, I guess I am still playing around with my build a little to much

to answer your question OP, yes, control is more important at VR1+. no longer can you fill your bar with DPS skills, you need to always consider CC. in an evironment where 2 mobs doing damage on you will kill you, you need to be able to control as many as possible.

Of course, actually having damaging skills helps too :) but I agree Hev....VR seems far too tightly tuned. I really don't like the idea that I may have to go with some oddball cookie cutter build just to survive more then 1-2 mobs on you unless you time everything to a T.
