Does sneaking provide any benefits?

Yeah, I know that it serves its main purpose of allowing you to keep hidden, and you can score a critical hit when attacking from a sneaking position, But do you gain any type of experience points that contribute to leveling anything?

Turial✭✭✭To answer your question of xp the answer is no.

Added on to OP, do mages get that critical hit bonus from a sneaking position, or just non-magic users? I think if you have to stand up to wiggle your fingers for two seconds, it defeats the purpose of sneaking.0 -

It seems that it would be kind of neat if certain quests required you to be able to sneak into certain areas of the quest to obtain something, and if you hadn't leveled up in sneaking you would be discovered and have to fight your way through.0

I agree, but i think the days of this sort of thing are mostly gone in todays main stream mmos. Everyone wants to do everything. Bill doesn't want to be locked out of a reward but he didn't level sneaking and Joe did. I know you said you could fight your way through, but if it easy to fight your way through then it really isn't a sneaking thing at all, since people will just rush through the mobs. And if it isn't easy to fight through, here comes Bob complaining about how he is forced to group to get a reward Joe can get alone sneaking.
Of course Im a cynical ding ***, so maybe it would work out spiffy.0 -

Is it not like that? I usually sneak around to certain quest areas. Up until some dumb ass with twohander aggroes all the mobs around while fighting his way through...

If the ability use weapon crit then it can get sneak bonus, even if it scales with magicka.
