Doesn't sharpened increase armor pen? It doesn't change the damage, it just ignored a percentage of the targets armor, effectively increasing the amount of damage you do.

more damage getting through = more damage output.

with 2handers heavy weapon passive. swords gain 5% damage and mauls gain 80 armor penetration and axes get a bleed.

that appears to be working according to my numbers using axe as the base
    191 * 1.05 = 200.5 so sword is correct.
the slight gain of maul over axe would indicate that the armor penetration passive is working for maul. for 4 extra damage.

following the example used by the heavy weapons passive. there should be an increase in damage for the sharpened trait. there however is not.

Oh man, I just made myself a purple sharpened great sword too. Just for reference, which combat UI mod are you using?

I was hoping that the penetration from Sharpened and the Nightblade's Mark Target/morphs would stack, but now I'm worried.

added an average glyph of crushing (green) for 170 armor reduction.
hit for 212 consistantly. with the plain greatsword.
so armor penetration should (based on the passive and the proc) directly show as increased damage.

tested puncture with a lvl 38 dagger. before 150 dmg. after 40% armor penetration 158 damage.with just the green glyph of crushing its 157. add both and its 162.
im thinking someone missed a decimal point on these skills/traits

A lot of people swear on their lives that every armor pen debuff doesn't work, but they're wrong. It works fine - they all do, even the Nightblade one. The problem? NPCs have almost no armor and most have 0 spell resist! This becomes obvious when you test the difference in damage with and without Armor/Spell Resist Penetration with all other things being equal, as said difference is very small.

Armor and Spell Resist Penetration is essentially worthless in PvE in all cases that I have seen. PvP is a different story, though.

So it appears that NB even more worthless in PVE then we thought before ? :pensive:
Mark target literaly do nothing expect of making you more vulnerable to the enemys.
Suprise attack is nothing more then a good damage ability with no other benefits.
