AH Island

A global island would be fun, but it shouldn't have one central AH but many small stores belonging to guilds who rent/buy them or maybe own property in Cyrodiil.
Make the trade guilds compete with each other for name of the best guild.

that would be like a AH which is what we are trying to shy away from. Separate location on its own server neutral ground where all three factions can go to use to buy and sell, along with a ingame search function on guild stores would clear up zone chat clutter and well as make it easier to buy sell and trade.

I *think* what you're suggesting is an actual location where anyone can go if they wish to buy/sell/trade? Somewhere that isn't any of the main areas?

I'm sorry, I'm just having a hard time following your posts, OP, as the lack of any sort of punctuation makes it difficult to read.

If this is what you're suggesting, I think that is very cool. That, coupled with a specific trade channel in the mainlands would help clear the clutter in the zone chat, thus leaving it open for the *** jokes and gold seller spam that I miss.

That was a joke. I really do think it's a good idea.
Yes that is correct but I disagree with having a trade channel as not many people pay attention to it and people that would use it revert to using zone chat again, however if we used this idea of mine and put in trade chat and made the trade chat server wide the people who want to quest rather then go to this separate location wont miss out and can still see the chat? I don't know like I stated earlier this is just a skeleton idea always room for improvement.

Auction House is the best way. Have locations in all the major cities all connected to the same market, like the banks and guildbanks are the same wherever you go. Make them searchable with advanced search for level, item type, etc.. Make us stick to one guild, give us the option to display our guild names. Give us guild heraldry to distinguish ourselves. Give us housing and guild halls ala LotRo or EQ2. Stop trying to be "innovative" and different, and just go with what has worked for eons of time in the mmo world. Stop being stupid Zenimax!

I loved the bazaar in Eq, you had to stand there with your stuff logged in, if you logged out, you couldnt sell anymore. There was a general interface to search for items and then you had to go find that player that was selling them. You got to see the seller face to face, was really neat.

I like the idea. I think there should be a global AH on the island for mats only. However in the global AH you can "advertise" your crafting services. A Blacksmith tab would list all crafters and would be sortable by whatever criteria the players/developers deem useful. You would then contract the crafter you select for quotes/order placement.

Finished goods/drop items would continue to be sold via trading guilds on the island but open to public. Possibly add a form of guild trading storefronts "housing".

@Lunamaru‌ my thoughts on a trade chat channel are precisely what you said: I can for see that some folks wouldn't want to take the time to go to "market island" and look around. With a server wide chat, they wouldn't necessarily have to. If there was something they wanted, they could monitor that channel, or post a WTB on it.

Personally, I think it would be neat to go to "market island" and spend the day roaming around, looking at what people have for sale, comparing prices, etc. Heck, I do that at the open air farmers markets in my town IRL.

There is, however, one place where this vision falls apart: player made crafts. Right now, there is nothing to distinguish my crafted set of leather armor with your crafted set of leather armor. If we both make a set of blue lvl 34 medium armor, the stats on it will be precisely the same. There isn't anyway to make them look aesthetically different, and thus what we wind up having is an island where everyone is selling the exact same things. That isn't very awesome.

Somewhere on this forum is a thread where someone was talking about additions/expansions and some ideas for that, particularly for a hearthfire-esque expansion and ideas included farming skill lines to grow your own mats, customized set crafting stations where you were able to build set armor with traits that you want to put on them, being able to put multiple traits/enchantments on armors/weapons/jewlery., and a couple other things. I'm sure that thread is lime 18 pages back, though, so it will take some digging to find.

What I'm trying to say is that "merchant island" is an awesome idea, but in order to make a successful, player based economy we need a way to make my crafts different than your crafts.

BatmanStoreFilter addon by trtt is what everyone who uses the guild store should have. go to ESOUI.com and download it now and any guild store becomes a user friendly experience. its very similar to the InventoryMod by Cr4x in that it adds filters so you can easily search and browse anything quickly.

this game would be improved with a global auction house or a barter island because there is too many people running around in game with no concept of the value of in game commodities. for example trying to sell a daedric motif for 100k only works on suckers. a global auction house where i could see that the average price for the daedric motif is 45k would cut down on the price gouging. i disagree with the gloabl AH doom and gloom crowd because i've played lots of MMOs and its the best way to sell your items hands down.

I did read your original post, and I got your point. I just disagree and have my own ideas. If you are so sure an AH will kill this game then why, pray tell, has it worked for EQ2 and WoW all this time. People still play those games you know, and subbed players no less. Your narrow view that your idea is the only one that will work is very arrogant. An AH will work, and it will work brilliantly if Zenimax doesn't try and reinvent the wheel.

Also, guilds in this game are practically meaningless. No one knows what guild you are in. There's no guild labels on your name, no heraldry, no nothing to set you apart from anyone else. So the only valid reason to join a guild in this game is so you can sell your stuff. Apparently thats what most people are doing. Plus you can join 5 of them. For what purpose? What does this solve? How does this equate to a meaningful guild experience? My point is, having the ability to join 5 guilds and only being able to peddle your wares to guild members (unless you want to spam zone chat with sales adverts). To me it's just stupid, and it's a real fun killer.

I really like how the game has the 5 guild system and the guild store function it give the mmo a new feel to it but we REALLY need a search function in the guild store making it easier to navigate those many pages quicker but enough of that my main topic I really think this would really help us as a whole bear in mind this has nothing to do with lore or the elder scrolls at all but I think it would be really cool to have a separate island as a neutral zone a place where all 3 factions can go and the purpose of this island would be to be able to spam zone for the buying and selling of items, as it is you can only spam 1 zone at a time for items you may not be able to get in your guild stores so having a separate zone tailored to buying and selling across all 3 factions it would make it a lot easier and I think it would be better then having a set AH.

Might be bot spam city I fear, but overall a good idea.

I like this idea. But I think that AH island should have no zone chat...it would be nice to see /say and possibly chat bubbles. It would cut down on the massive amounts of wtb/WTS spam and give it more of an open air market feel, like a bazaar irl. You could wander through, see what people have to sell, and maybe people would even start gravitating to certain areas to sell certain types of items, making it easier to search for things.

This game's economy is many things but strong is not among them.

As an example: I browsed through all five of my guild stores today looking for such rudimentary improvement items as honing stones and dwarf oil. I found one honing stone up for sale. One. No dwarf oil. Oh, and an embroidery for 1k gold. I kid you not. They wanted 1k gold for a single embroidery... and the truly sad thing is some desperate individual is probably going to buy it. So basically I spent half my morning flipping through dozens of pages and found a single honing stone for all my trouble. Truly an epic economy system we have here.

So I ended up having to spend a couple thousand of gold buying greens to deconstruct at 200+ gold each. And it looks like hours and hours of farming awaits me if I want to improve them to blues. Yes, I could have possibly spammed myself like a damn commercial on zone chat and found some for sale. But I'll quit this game before resort to trade spam.

My point is that guild stores are unreliable and do not provide a stable nor effective economy.

    I strongly disagree

I loath these guild stores. They suck. More hassle than they are worth. And I despise having to hop across guilds on some quest to find a store with a decent and reasonably priced selection.

I honestly have no idea how anyone could be satisfied with them.

hence why i said earlier in the post they need a full search function for our 5 guild stores and this island to have a specified trading area on top of our guilds.

I dislike trade spam even more than guild stores. So if I am reading your OP correctly, I'm not too keen on your idea to have an island where everyone is suppose to gather and spam wts/wtb commercials. I would avoid that place as if it had the plague.

We do agree that a more efficient search function is desperately needed though.

then dont go there? this will be a separate zone all together it should decrease trade spam throughout the other zones so I would think you would be even more on board with it?
