Nightblades Versus Tough Enemies

So I have been playing since release and I am a veteran rank 2 Khajiit nightblade. I have reassigned my skills three times now, to try different things out and at the moment am running a daggers (AOE) and bow (CC) build.

I am fine against single targets and usually up to 3 enemies with my bow (depending if there are too many ranged or not) and I can take up to 7 or 8 with my daggers (provided I have my veil of blades ultimate).

So far this is sounding pretty awesome right? Well it is, for the most part, but what about the really tough baddies in the game? I'm talking mainly about world bosses here. Of course many would think, just stun and annihilate, but I'm talking about the ones that can't be stunned, knocked back or rooted.

I have tried many techniques but seem to keep falling very short of my goal. I even seem to struggle against gargoyles (of higher level) and frost/storm atronarchs (same level).

Does anyone else out there play a nightblade that is having the same issue, or can anyone help me out and let me know what I'm doing wrong?

No you're not the only one, Nightblades as a class trend towards short bursts of high DPS, they can fight sustained battles with the right skills, my own build can handle groups of 4 before it starts getting into trouble.

But the first sign of anything that can't be stunned, rooted or fed upon with invigorating drain, I find myself patiently waiting for another player to come along and help.

There are builds out there that work, but you may need to completely redesign your build. The traditional assassin nightblade isn't tuned to solo much of VR level content.

Well, the assumption that you should be able to solo world bosses is fundamentally flawed. You're supposed to have a group to take on those enemies.

That's fair enough, I'm not expecting to be able to take Nilata Falls on my own or anything like that, but even down to a simple Gargoyle in Bangkorai or one of the Daedric summoned storm atronarchs. Those are supposed to be soloed and I can't beat them.

Those enemies are tough for most players/builds. You're not alone.

As a NB I agree with this a lot. I was able to solo most of world bosses up to VR 3 . At that point it was obvious that this wasn't going to happen often any more . And it was not a matter of NB being a bad class it was more about being in a group with 2 DKs + 1 sorc and getting all whipped by some bosses. because we didn't approach the fight properly. Of course I will not deny that some people could devise some build/strategy to solo >VR3 world bosses. Most people that play the game will not.

Those are tough and one wrong footing will get you killed. The type of mob you are talking about also has additional enemies that spawn and can cause some grief. I try and DOT them with syphon so I have a constant health regen going and also does damage to them while I try and kill the big bad. Also the 12.5 second stun from the Syphon skill line can take one mob out of the equation for the whole fight if nothing hits it. And once that spell runs out can also damage the mob.

Remember undead and atronachs that are not flesh and blood do not get bleed damage so if you are using that as a DOT in your build it will not help.

Silver Bolt is a great friend in these fights also, as is the protective circle which is the second skill in the fighters guild. When I know I am going up against daedra or undead I try to make sure I have one of those skills equiped.

Blur is a nice active which gives the enemy a 15% chance to miss you completely for 20 seconds and if morphed right can put them off balance with a simple heavy attack will then send them to the floor.

Thanks for all the info and advice guys, I really appreciate it. I guess I will just have to keep trying out different combinations of abilities, maybe even try to get better at using them.

Are you trying to solo a world boss of the same level as you? You being unable to do so is probably intended design.

I completely agree. Some of the CC classes are soloing them by kiting & I hope Zenimax makes them a little more resistant to crowd control in the future. Soloing world bosses is taking another step toward becoming a MSO vs an MMO.

Catches-the-Sun - Argonian Templar - Master Smith, Provisioner, Chemist & Tailor
Valaren Arobone - Dunmer Flamewalker - Master Woodworker, Provisioner, Assassin
Kazahad - Khajiiti Arcane Archer - Master Thief
    V'orkten - Redguard Swordmaster
Finnvardr the Frenzied - Werewolf Berzerker

Not just world bosses, I don't think they should be solo possible at all, but more so frost and storm atronarchs, such as those that spawn from the random daedric portals and standard gargoyles.

I think it's ridiculous when I can't kill a gargoyle of the same level or even a couple of levels lower. They can't be stunned or knocked back, so how am I supposed to kill one on my own?
