I've read about the Dual Wield bug but I'd never actually encountered it until I started playing a Nightblade. For those unfamiliar with the bug in question, it's a combat glitch--for some reason the game doesn't recognize button presses, and it's a lot like one of the nastier stuns monsters can cast on you where you can't do anything (other than move). The workaround for this bug is to either hit escape twice (bringing up the menu, then returning to the game) or activating the "mouse release" key (usually the comma, I think) and then pressing it again.
The explanation I've heard about this bug that makes the most sense is that the game somehow thinks you've entered "free mouse" mode so it doesn't recognize button presses, and you have to force it to recognize you've re-entered a mouselook state before it starts working again.
I call it the"Dual Wield" bug because everyone seems to think it's exclusively a DW problem. I haven't seen it trigger when I play around with other weapons, so it does seem to be the case. For the longest time I thought it was actually a Nightblade+DW problem, because my sorcerer used DW without any issues at all... until today. But today I managed to trigger it, and the only thing I did differently was swap out one skill for another.
Normally I use Twin Slashes, morphed to the one that gives you a heal over time on top of the bleed effect ("Blood" something, can't remember the name). Twin Slashes doesn't work against undead, though, and keep running into them, so I decided I'd switch it out for Flurry, because the burst damage is significantly higher. And once I did that I started triggering this bug.
Twin Slashes: never triggered the problem.
Flurry: oh, look, there it is. Now I need to hit escape and oh wait nevermind I'm dead.
Has anyone else who encountered this bug noticed it with other skills? The only ones I've used are Twin Slashes, Flurry, and Whirlwind. My sorcerer has used Twin Slashes and Whirlwind quite a bit without triggering it, and it wasn't until he switched to Flurry that I noticed it.
Anyone notice if it's specific to Flurry? Or have they triggered it with other skills?
