Dragon knight, its dps output is capable of being 2x that of the next highest class in pve and likely to be the major factor behind team composition in trials runs.

Any class with self healing that does not rely on potions or other players make it to the top.

No healing abilities = constant death in veteran levels.

Heck you still go down fast with self healing in veteran levels lol.
mDKs still need a lot of love!

A mage with heavy armor and a bow.

Just kidding, try them all, it is how you play your class that defines how effective it is.

Well the differences between the classes are the three class skill lines. So rank them all(list them in order from worst to best and assign them points based on their location in the list, then add up the points for each class) and the best class will become apparent.

My sorcerer is having a really hard time to progress past level 48. It is stuck trying to complete the level 40 main quest involving killing Mannimarco. Killing monsters that I can find under this condition don't bring experience anymore. So, unless you are sadistic, or that you have strange idea about what is supposed to be a "game" that has no more path available to your character, AVOID sorcerer.

If there is a best class, that's an inherent play balance problem.

In every MMO survivability and playstyle are largest factors in how a character of any class performs for any given player. This is especially true of ESO, where you can be one-shot in the blink of an eye.

Everyone knows the time honored MMO equation of DEAD=0 DPS. Just because someone can do X amount of DPS with class Y doesn't mean you'll be able to. In fact, you'll be much better off for a variety of reasons playing the class/build that best matches your style, not least of which is this is the combo that will net you, personally, the best DPS.

People, like that dude above, who are all like, "Yo, DK be like da bombzorz. It be like doin' double damage dawg." They are looking at one specific ability in one specific situation, and then basing their claim on theoretical best case scenarios. In the real world, different class/build combinations shine in different situations.

Finally, everyone who's well acquainted with MMOs is well acquainted with the nerf bat. Anything that significantly outshines everything else is eventually adjusted, often resulting in the build being less effective overall.

There isnt a "best class" (Vampires was a big screwup).
There are "best team with teamwork that gets the job done.

What classes/builds you are is ALMOST irrelavant.

When you beat instances that most dies on. Solve events or even command sieges in PVP, then we can talk about whats is best.

The CORE of classes in ESO has been that everything is open to all (apart from racials and 3 class specific trees). So you can say there are loads of different classes and how good they are depends not only on the person, but how they cooperate in a group.

Mannimarco is harder than Molag by far, due to his siphoning..it took me till lvl 48 and that was because I hid by the door....

I don't think there is a best class. But there are some really good skills under each that I love. Skill points are wasted on me because I only use very few of the class skills.

Now if ZOS would only nerf the the solo-only bosses.

I think I like your discussion but... I've enjoyed playing a NB sword & shield self found to level 44 in the Aldmeri Dominion but can go no further now to finish Reaper's March--quest bugs and solo-only bosses remain.

I've been told as I think you suggest that a different class/build respec is the answer to my solo-only boss battles. But since there remains two other areas to start a new character in and since I need to learn how to group with others and the benefits of a Guild to spend my hoard of gold in one day maybe I was thinking of starting a new/different PC in Daggerfall or Ebonheart?

This would give ZOS time to resolve nerfing the solo-only bosses and/or me time to figure out wtf is going on with my pathetic performance in a huge multi-player world failing repeatedly in single-player combat. And it gives ZOS time to work out the numerous bugs which I will no doubt meet more of in Daggerfall or Ebonheart.

I was going to up and quit and force a refund of the game and play time but that doesn't seem like as much fun as starting over again in a different area. After all, my original intent was to play out all three areas at least. Now instead of playing these other areas as Veteran (if that was how it might have worked) I'll be playing them as new character classes. And maybe the class that does the best is the one I continue on a Veteran in one day?

Unfortunately the OP question seems unresolved to me. Can I modify it to, "What is the easiest class to survive in to Veteran and beyond?" Probably not... Let's try this. I've been playing a NB Khajiit but get thoroughly frustrated dying too often against the solo-only boss instances throughout the levels but in particular when trying to finish Reaper's March at level 44. I have loved crafting only potions and ignoring all the other crafting skills. I think I would love killing from afar as much as melee--I know I would. Trying to be a tank gets me killed every time I think. I think I would like to be able to pull a foe to me if nothing else to separate a mob. Did I mention I don't like dying--in solo boss battles especially? I recognize that I haven't been buffing at all effectively. Sure I can sip on something to increase my stamina for 35 minutes but I have no idea now if I needed to buff stamina any more then magicka or health.

It seems like I should try a DK or Templar but probably save or never play the Sorceress? So hidden in the above verbiage have I answered my question or can you see the answer of what class and race to play next? Even if I change class is it possible that the Khajiit would remain the best race to keep? I must say I like sneaking around and although I don't know how or where it factors in I was good opening what I thought would be very difficult chests with lockpicks--only breaking them on occasion.

    Help.

    This.

With 6 skills on the hotbar, you have to choose between class skills, guild skills, world skills, armor skills and weapon skills.

So many combos that you do not have to choose a class skill to be effective in any role.

The best class is the one you enjoy the most and play well.

I make a DK look like a wet paper bag but I play a sorc very well. I know, people believe sorcs are super op but I play with a build that would make anyone cringe. Is it the most effective? Probably not but it works for me and I really enjoy it.

The one you enjoy playing and that fits your playing style...

Otherwise, what's the point? It would be like buying a car you can't stand just because it came with an air freshener you liked...!?

While there is definitely more than one way to skin a cat, it would be impractical to skin a cat using a hammer. Just as using no weapon or armor would inhibit any real fulfillment of your class and its role. So a more specific question would be what is the best physical class or spell class. And an even more specific question would be what is the best class/armor/weapon combination for physical or spell? And further than that, which role are you trying to fill? But to answer I would say nightblade in medium armor with dual wield for physical damage and a dragon knight in cloth with a fire staff for dps.
