First of All would like to say I'm not much of a PC gamer, only played SWTOR, Civ 5 and Total War on PC. I've ran into a situation, on debating to upgrade my PC (it runs alright now but the game is just Meh), while really I'm just waiting 6 months, for the console version. I would like to get into the game and PVP just usually have a hard time sitting at my desk instead of my Lazy boy to game. >.> If i Can get some opinions if anything (on the cheaper side) would make a huge difference or not on the Game play

Specs are
CPU AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor 3.3 GHz
10gb RAM
GeForce GTX 560 W/ 1gb of RAM

Also should I be Worried that when I play for longer than an hour my computer sounds like it is about to take off on a run way, and feels like the inside of and oven?

Also any Clans that are willing to help me out just a oui bit? no idea what most use for chat but I have used Skype, and steam in the past, I know these probably aren't the preferred methods?

Anyways Any help or Advice is appreciated

My PC is dual core, 1GB graphics card and 4Mb of ram. It runs ESO just fine. I use Xpadder with a wired Xbox360 controller for combat and a wireless keyboard for everything else. I'm sitting on my settee typing this - I use a 30 inch TV/Monitior.

The noise from your PC could be from your power supply fan, a new power supply costs around 25 GBP on Ebay. As for the heat, check the fan on your processor (and graphics card if it has a fan) is working.

How did you get 10GB of RAM?

I'm with @rotiferuk‌ on it potentially being a power supply issue, but unbalanced RAM slots can cause issues as well. You have four slots for RAM on your motherboard. Either 2 should be filled, or 4 should be filled, and they should be balanced out (meaning the 1 & 3 slots have the same amount of RAM, and the 2 & 4 slots have the same amount of RAM).

That Actually just came with the desktop, Also I upgraded the power supply when I bought the computer back in 2012, not sure how to obtain the specs on it but I believe I got a 850 watt or something like that, like I said not much of a computer guy just had a friend helping me out

Hrm. Maybe call that friend again and have him take a look inside the case. The 10GB of RAM is still making me a little nervous, because that's an odd number to have. But without actually having someone take a look at the machine, it's impossible to know what's causing the issue you describe.

The issue is that your graphics card has 1GB of RAM, the more RAM on your graphics card the more visuals it can handle at once. Check your framerate in game with /fps. If you feel the look is too bland and blurry set your "Sub Sampeling" quality to medium and check your fps again. You will hqve a drop in fps but if it is by 1-2 frames you will be good (as long as you are not already 5fps which I doubt). The sound is definitly either the fan going bad or a processor overextending its own limits (the excess heat from this would cause the fan to run at its highest without properly cooling your system).

also. if you bought the pc in '12 and never cleaned it out.. depending on the area it is in it maybe be full of dust, this would cause severe overheating. (fans going nuts)
perhaps open it up and take an air compressor to it. (low psi)
apart from that, depending on your case, it just may not be breathing well. if you leave a side off the case and it still overheats, look toward the dust thing or consider adding fans.

Personally, I wouldn't trust a £25 PSU as far as I could throw it  Seen far too many cheap PSUs fail in my time.

10Gb of RAM shouldn't be a major issue other than it's unlikely to be running optimally. i.e. some or all of it will likely only be operating in Single Channel rather than Dual Channel modes (dependant on the exact type or RAM installed).

Noise is quite possibly heat related but could be the PSU. When did you last check / clean out the heatsinks and fans and generally clean out the inside of the case?

To OP specs generally seem ok to play the game.

If your pc starts to sound like it will take off and you can bake pizza inside it then there is easy solution to just upgrade your cooler/fans.

Shouldn't need to upgrade any cooling, if the PC is a couple of years old and this is a new problem then it probably just needs cleaning out and everything will be fine.

+1 the only time cooling would be an issue is if you have NEVER pushed your system before this game. never pushed your cooling to be used heavily.

A used ASUS/MSI gaming latop may run under 700$ just make sure it was made within the last 2 years, should be able to play the game fine.

My walmart laptop runs the game fine, but PvP is a pain. As long as his Graphics card isnt old as dirt (which they do sell so be careful) he will be fine. I would just say if you have a friend who is PC savy, have them go with him to pick it out.

    AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 @3.6
    8 gig ram
    1gb GTX 560ti

    Similar to your system.

I play for hours at a time and my rig always sounds like it's gonna take off...no problems yet though, temps fine and good performance at max (lowest 20fps in the largest pvp.)

The chip is the bottleneck, graphics card at best uses 72% @ 720p. 2gb graphics card would be better 'cos im hitting 1008mb. I've seen it go higher (1019mb on Mortal online) but it's not ideal.

OK, hello guys, so this seems to be the right thread for this, so ima go ahead and pipe up. So I got a question to ask see. I read the specs for this game back in early April before downloading and my PC is fine for everything seemingly, except the GFX card. Now I asked people before but they say so long as it is a decent GFX card it don't really matter what the GB setting is and its all about how many clocks or tiks or whatever the hell its called, that the GFX card has, and not so much about GB, but, well my question is the game specs say for optimal performance you should have a 2gb minimum GFX card. Mine is a 1gb Radeon 807- which came with the PC. So, should I get a 2 GB GFX card? And if so, anyone got any relatively cheap suggestions? I want to keep under £50 if I can...so about $65-$70?

Just edited post above about how much ram the game is using on my card. 1 gig is fine, but it will limit fps at higher resolutions/settings. A low range card wont get to use all the ram at lower settings. My 540m can run it at playable framerates if I dont push it too much...ironically it's got 2 gig of ram it could never hope to use.

Yes, its because of FPS that I ask, I really want to play this game on ultra settings and not have any FPS issues, when I try normally on the highest settings my FPS goes to like 8-6 [which aint good] and I am fairly sure its the card that is holding me back. I tend to play on medium settings with textures on high and the other thing below it on medium and I get on average 26-32 FPS but it looks bland, I know the game looks much better on the higher settings. What kind of 2 gb cards with decent specs can I get for under £50?
  • greylox

I very much doubt a card for that value will ever use over 1gb video memory with usable framerates. Just off the top of my head, at least something like a 650ti 2gb would do and they might be around 100 quid by now.

The main difference I noticed was shadows from medium to high (or ultra). It gives everything a shine and just looks like it has more depth to the colours.

medium shadows on the laptop - matte and boring
ultra on the desktop - looks amazing

That's a bit steep, see I already done a bit of research and amazon et all seems to sell some 2gb GFX cards for around what I asked, I seen a few even that were under £40 but I aint too hot on the specs and I don't know if they would both work with my rig and have the right specs for gaming...I don't want to buy something, install it and get burned if you know what I mean. >.<

Having 2 gb alone wont be good enough, the card has to be able to use it. There probably is applications that low end cards can utilize large amounts of ram, but gaming aint one of 'em. I can use more than 1 gb on my laptop 540m but it's a slideshow.
Doesn't matter how good your card is though, mass pvp with a rubbish chip will make you pull out your hair. If the card cant get enough info, it's being crippled.

A 256 bit memory bus is important but texture units and all that I'm not sure on. A mid-high card is what you will have to aim for to play mass pvp at high settings, at least. With a better chip, my gtx 560ti could go a bit further but I wouldn't like to go to a 550, I'm at the limit for the settings I play at (everything max but no vert sinc), and I'm no where near getting 60fps all the time...45fps in open cyrodil, 40-90 in dungeons, 20-35 in large pvp. (card clocked at 950mhz) Also I don't know much about ati cards so maybe someone else could help on that front.

Alright, well thanks anyway for feedback, hopefully someone with more Radeon XP will pick this up later. I don't want anything spectacular after all, just would LIKE to be able to play the game on high to super high settings with a minimum of say 30 fps as a ballpark. This is basically what I get on the settings I have now, but as I said, those settings are medium for most things, and some things are on low, like shadows etc.
  • greylox

I find all the on/off settings like ambient occlusion and rays etc, do nothing to my framerate on either card. I've checked and barely 1 fps difference. The main thing is the shadows if you want it to look nice (above what you're playing now). Particles don't affect my desktop card, but going from medium to high on my 540m, I lose 10 fps. 4gb system ram isn't enough for high settings either, at least for me, it was stuttering all over the place after half an hours play. Bumping it to 8gb solved all of that.

Alright, so if I get a better gaming card that's all I need... [I have 8gb system ram] the single biggest detriment to my FPS is the option under textures...cant think what its called but it affects character graphics and generally makes the game look more vibrant and less particle-y.
  • greylox
    greylox
    ✭✭✭✭✭
That's sub-sampling, and it should be on high. It renders the game at lower resolutions in med and low (but keeps the ui the same) and should only be used for dirt cards...if a 540m can run sub-sampling high...

Or if it is textures itself, again, my 540m has them on high (using it as an example because it's such a poor card, it's helped along by a 2nd generation i7 which helps a lot)...eveything else up to max @1366 x 768 apart from particles and shadows on med, view distance at 40... and it never uses over 800mb or so and 85% of the card (checked using EVGA Precision)(again, pointless the card having 2gb). So high textures alone will be fine for a 1gb card.
