Where in the game does it say what type armor is good for what classes?

I'm trying to figure out where in the game it talks about what types of armor are good for what types of characters. Every time I ask, someone spouts out some "everyone knows that" kind of thing, but rarely actually indicates where that info comes from. People say that light armor is good for casters. I'm just trying to find out how that knowledge is obtained, other than word of mouth. And to make matters worse, every time I try to find out, someone says "If you choose to wear heavy armor, that's your choice." Yeah, I know it's my choice, but I keep trying to figure out WHY I might make that choice, other than "do it if it makes you feel good" which seems to be the kind of response I get.

@sarbonn‌ If you look at the armor passives while in game, they will tell you what bonuses you have while wearing that type of armor. For example, light armor gives magicka related bonuses, heavy armor gives stamina related bonuses, medium gives bonuses to crit (I think...) So, the information you're looking for in game is in the armor skills section.

Yea the passives define what the armor is good for, class is irrelevant.

So if you hit k and look at the passive abilities for armor types that paints a good picture. That's where the knowledge comes from. Basically the passives tell you what you can do with the armor.

Light for magica, medium for stamina, and heavy for health. Because of the way soft-caps work, some of the best guides I've read suggest using all three (3 of one, 2 each of the others,) for leveling, and then when you get into specific circumstances, use a different combo to suit your needs. Sometimes you'll want a bit more health if you are tanking something or what have you.

The reason to make whatever choice really depends on the passives and what you have available.

Note that, unless I'm mistaken, those passives only apply if you put points into them; if you don't put any points into armor skills then you might as well wear all heavy for the higher armor value, or just whatever you like the look of.

Light armor for Magicka.
Medium armor for Stamina.
Heavy armor for Health and Immovable.

Edit: Although once you unlock Immovable you do not need to actually wear Heavy armor to use it.

It really does depend on what you want to do. My sorcerer wears light for magicka and then I picked up a pretty sweet looking medium jack that had Magicka on it. So now she wears that because it looks more bad ass

If you want to optimize, then that's been covered above and most people go for a mix and match to even out their skill leveling. Some do 5/2 some do 3/2/2. It's up to you. If you prefer aesthetics, then you're free to wear whatever you like

Medium for physical crit, sneaking .attack speed, and stamina regen
